Title: local clay of Arillas Post by: dimitris on June 23, 2004, 07:02:50 PM Arillas in North West Corfu has a special charisma. The beach hills consist of a kind of clay that is normally used for local pottery goods.
A lot of people paint their body green with the local clay of Arillas. As it dries on your body, it gives a smooth surface to the skin. Actually it is nothing less than these body and face masks provided by most healing clubs all over the world. I have seen some ladies taking some clay stones with them while leaving the naturist section of the Arillas beach which is on the very left and very right part of the beach. In some places in the world like France they even drink it as powder mixed in water for medicinal use. Soon I will have a full article about the clay of Arillas in our web site. See you,  (http://www.arillas.com/clay.jpg) Title: Green Mud Post by: vivian on June 23, 2004, 10:47:40 PM Hi Dimitris, Thanks a lot for the reply, it all sounds very intresting looking forward to seeing the site. See you in October. Cheers Viv
Title: mud Post by: NORM&SANDY on July 02, 2004, 12:43:36 AM yi all
i have used the mud at the nudist beach and i must say apart from looking a complete *$%£ i does seem to purify the skin also if you are starting to burn it cools the skin down and stops you from getting sore. maybe i will see you soon norm Title: Green Mud Post by: viv on July 02, 2004, 11:26:47 PM Hi Norm & Sandy, Yes hope to see you soon, won't we look silly covered in green mud witha red cornation so we reconise each other. By the way where will you pin yours?
Title: green mud Post by: NORM&SANDY on July 08, 2004, 12:32:19 AM hi ya
who needs a pin? norm Title: Green Mud Post by: vivian on July 08, 2004, 09:56:55 AM ummmm ohhhhh
Title: Green Mud Post by: Anonymous on July 08, 2004, 01:44:41 PM The mud clay is especially good if you have burnt your skin and you don't want to subject the skin to anymore sun - just cover the burnt bits and carry on! Its cool.
Aly Title: Green Mud Post by: harold on August 27, 2004, 07:47:29 PM Hello Viv,
i have often seen people covered in this mud(usually Germans),but they wash it off after a couple of minutes. Title: Green Mud Post by: Maggie1 on September 01, 2004, 10:15:49 PM Hi all, We {12 of us} went to the beach to cover ourselves with the mud this summer when we visited. It was great fun and ous skin felt great afterwards. We plastered it on and waited for it to dry, and then went in the sea to get it all off again. There were quite a few others doing this as well as us. I could show you the photos, but I'm not goin to! Try it next visit everyone. :D

Title: Mud is fun Post by: Anonymous on September 26, 2004, 11:32:41 PM Hello everyone... the mud is FUN. Barrels of fun, especially if you are two or more persons and paint each other from head to toenails...
I hope placing the image works as I expect it... :-) it shows my girlfriend & me making wild faces - notice how you can model your hair when its "mud-enhanced" (the picture was taken last year): (http://www.neurowerx.de/pix/mudpeople.jpg) The perfect mud recipe: take a plastic bag to the beach, collect some of the mud and crush it (it is very soft stone), then fill the bag with a little bit of sea water & let it "ripe" in the sun for an hour or so. Then crush the remaining mud pieces & fill with sea water until you have a smooth paste, and the wild painting can begin. Its so much fun, you have to try it at least once. I've seen people adding olive oil to their mud mixture, but I really do NOT like this, after all you're going to wash the mud off in the sea and then the oil is in the sea, which is not very nice. :-( And Dimitri is right: after you washed off the dried mud, the skin is really very soft & smooth, feels very nice - in other places, people pay a lot of money for that! :-O But take care of mud remainders in your ears & elsewhere ;-) ...it makes really nasty stains in your towels! :-D Greetings from cold & grey Germany... :-( Alexander. Title: Green Mud Post by: Anonymous on September 27, 2004, 09:38:54 AM What an excellent picture. Which end of the beach is the mud as we have never seen it.
Title: Green Mud Post by: vivian on September 27, 2004, 10:37:12 AM Wow, can't wait. only another 4 days to go. The mud is on the naturist part of the beech. Viv & Pete
Title: Green Mud Post by: Anonymous on September 27, 2004, 02:22:00 PM Addition: be sure to pick the "pure" green clay-stones... you'll recognize it on your way towards the naturist beach... (there's some claystone cliffs you pass) ...that gives the smoothest mud-paste. :-D
Greetings, Alexander. Title: Green Mud Post by: vivian on September 27, 2004, 06:53:28 PM Thank's Alexander, speak to you when we get back, all smooth feeling. Viv

We would all love to be there to see the beautiful views for ourselves  I bet your rain is a lot warmer than ours  I love Afionas and go up there quite a lot when on holiday, last monday we had a lovely breakfast in the Panorama and the sun was shining, unlike the Saturday when it rained, rained, rained   Perhaps you could start a 'daily column' just like a journalist with little snippets on Arillas to keep me and the other forum members happy throughout the winter until we return to Arillas next year. :D :D :D Eileenxx Title: Green Mud Post by: Marie Gibbon on September 28, 2004, 11:39:27 PM oh god!! next year Eileen that seems so long away!! what are we going to do till then??!!! :(

I should not encourage you 'else your mum will maybe get mad at you for spending all your money and daydreams in Arillas!!!!   (just like the rest of us!!) Eileenxx Title: Green Mud Post by: Marie Gibbon on September 29, 2004, 06:26:06 PM oh i get ya now Eileen!!

so...today its sunny and hoooooot!!but im still wearing a jacket...the sea is cold cold and i freak out everytime i see tourists passing by my house with Bathing suits  but the fact is that we all thought the weather would be horrible today, so we're suprised!! :D :D happy daydreams  Aline Title: Green Mud Post by: vivian on October 09, 2004, 08:33:40 AM Hi, it seem's we had been waiting for ever to try it out and it was worth it all, we had a great time painting each other and then baking in the sun, we could feel our skin tighterning up as the clay dried  and yes the skin did feel softer once we washed it off, which if im honest did surprise me a bit as I did feel that perhaps these claim's had been excaduated. We had lovely weather all week and you wouldn't have thought it was October we did the mud thing twice and spent the rest of the time just getting the ray's and chilling out. Wonderfull. Yammos Viv & Pete
Title: Green Mud Post by: Jim on October 06, 2005, 07:24:08 PM Green mud Ha! I cant wait to try it.We had a laugh 2 years ago near La Manga in Spain .They had Black mud .All the elderly locals would go & cover themselves with it. We had a go ...What a sight.Didn't seem to do my complexion much good tho!lol
Title: Green Mud Post by: bigbadjon on May 05, 2006, 08:50:45 PM The clay does a good job on your skin, leaves it feeling as soft as a babies bum, however as it has exfoliant, (hope i spelt that right lol), properties i recommend only using it on the first or second day as you will lose about one days tan ....and thats what most are here for, see you 5th June 06
John Title: Re: Green Mud Post by: justphil on December 09, 2007, 08:17:04 PM have to admit, we have photos of me b******k naked covered in green mud. It was spread over me by a quite attractive German woman, amongst a large party on Arillas beach. No difficulty - Jen was sat watching - it wasn't about that either. But when I collected the pictures from Safeways the assistant said "you're quite well off..." and you can work out what you think she meant - I don't think she meant that!!!!
lol Phil Title: Re: Green Mud Post by: vivian on December 12, 2007, 08:34:26 AM Dont think she meant WHAT ? lol Viv
Title: Re: Green Mud Post by: patrickjohn on December 12, 2007, 06:18:02 PM Just love the way topics suddenly come to life after being dormant for ages. This one had no posts for 18 months.
Enjoyed watching a large party of Germans this year covering themselves in the green mud. Will take some pics next time, but was unsure of the etiquette, perhaps its OK so long as I don't take them to Tesco for printing. Regards PJ Title: Re: Green Mud Post by: vivian on December 13, 2007, 11:53:12 PM Hi P.J. Ask them first otherwise you could find that they get a wee bit upset with you. lol Viv
Title: Re: Green Mud Post by: patrickjohn on December 14, 2007, 01:58:08 PM Hi Viv
Thanks for the advice. Was only kidding - but they were photographing each other - does that make a difference? Am jealous that you will be in Arillas at least one week before me! Best wishes Pat Title: Re: Green Mud Post by: vivian on December 14, 2007, 08:34:19 PM Hi P.J. so was I hehe, when we covered ourselves in mud for the first time we actully had a couple ask us if we wanted them to take a photo of us together with our camera, so pleased we said yes as I often laugh at it. Viv
Title: Re: Green Mud Post by: patrickjohn on December 14, 2007, 10:15:33 PM There's nothing like a photograph for jogging the memory and bringing back thoughts of happy times. Good job we usually only take pictures of the happy times though!
PJ Title: Re: Green Mud Post by: justphil on February 02, 2008, 08:25:30 PM Talking photographs, here is a (censored) version of a pic that Jen took of me doing the green mud in 2003. Uncensored versions on PM application!!!
(http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/7507/greenmudmodestjk2.th.jpg) (http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=greenmudmodestjk2.jpg) like viv, I agree - stay nude, it ain't rude! lol phil Title: Re: Green Mud Post by: vivian on February 02, 2008, 08:41:04 PM Not rude at all but still thought I better only put the censored version on here. I chuck my togs off every night. In 1968 I wuzzed along a beach in Coruna. The best. I love freedom. I also respect anyone in vision though.
Title: Re: Green Mud Post by: Lindypops on February 03, 2008, 03:47:46 AM I might scare them.
Title: Re: Green Mud Post by: vivian on February 03, 2008, 03:26:13 PM O heck I didnt think of that, I was just thinking how silly we looked, but it did feel good and I would recommend it to anyone. Viv
Title: Re: Green Mud Post by: justphil on November 15, 2008, 11:40:14 PM We missed out on it this year. Spent far too long getting rat ar**d watching darts in Rainbow, or the film in the Nut. Loved it all though. We had so much fun... Our Arillas comes with both.
I did get greened up one day though. It was very windy. No pictures (you're so glad about that!) but you have read the story in my holiday report. No shorts either... Who pinched them??? Admit to it and I'll buy you a big drink if you own up. Phil |
