I'm surprised Dimitris didn't warn you about Donut Man!  I wonder if he goes down the lefthand side of beach from the jetty, as I never saw him when I was there.  The only way to stop this rogue is to take pics for Dimitris to NAME AND SHAME this culprit.  I will endeavour to take piccie evidence when Im out to Arillas again in 3 weeks time.

8) I've not seen this in Arillas but I know it is pretty common in the more "touristy" resorts. We will know to watch out for him.

We were in Arillas in June and saw the donut seller a couple of times but we knew him from Sidari, where we used to go, so we didn't buy anything from him. I am sure that back then (about 5 years ago) he had a bakery on the main street of Sidari. Could be mistaken of course. Anyway moral is don't buy off pedlars.

We're back in September so we'll mention this to Dimitris.

Good luck to the guy.  If people are willing to pay it then he'll be retired sooner than me!!  Maybe ask the price first and don't be afraid to say no.

I too was caught , end of May this year, by the same man. I was actually really upset as in the 22 years I've been holidaying all over Greece I have never had this experience.  ended up paying 25 Euros for 3 pieces of fruit - I'm still not sure how he managed that - something to do with the way he gave me my change, very clever!! the only blot on an otherwise perfect holiday.

this man has been arrested several times and has always been paying a fine. However, he keeps doing his Job as he seems to be making a lot of more money than the fines he has to pay. We, the people of Arillas can only advice you to ignore him and if you think you are being riped off there is a baywacher on the beach where you can talk to him and ask him to intevene.

We saw this man on the beach on Thursday (12 Aug, left hand side of jetty looking out to sea) - I couldn't understand why a donut man was selling grapes!!   We just ignored him!  It's good that you have warned other holiday makers about him, forwarned is forarmed & all that.................

What about the woman who walks around the tavernas at night while your eating,trying to sell you A ROSE.The last time we saw anything like that was when we where in Spain.She just got a very stern NO off us and after a couple of days she didnt bother asking again.

We saw both of these "characters" whilst in Arillas last week but fortunately didn't get caught out by either of them! Can't say that a donut really had much appeal in that heat anyway! 8)

Never seen this man in May,but he looks like the man that sells doughnuts in St George(maybe he does all the beaches?)

I,ve seen this man selling donuts and fruit on the beach at Roda. He was there when we visited Roda this year.

Myself/partner and kids have just spent two weeks at Arillas Bay apts.  It was lovely!!  Although apart from the 'D' Man I think people should be aware of the lady selling Roses at a very costly price.  She haggles and preys on the fact she has a baby in her tummy, at first she will say "free for the lady as she hands it to you!!!! Be strong and say NO!!

the bounut man has been doing the run on the beach for a few years, i was conned by him once but not a second time, he was taking less money each time we saw him, as people was warned by his price and it was passed on from holiday maker to holiday maker. If you see him dont buy from him keep telling others

Enterprising chap! I took this photo this summer, he's clever though even wearing the same shirt!!!!!!! Though he probably drove to Acharavi in a brand new Merc on his proceeds.

Sorry folks I know we all feel very safe and love the Greek people and trust them implicitly, but he is just being "enterprising".(Though it seems VERY greedy) Would you buy candy floss on Blackpool beach without checking how much is cost first?

The real Acharavi donutman however sells WONDERFUL donuts for 90cents, cheaper than the bakers! Price advertsied for all to see, and licenced by the council to ply his wares in the proper fashion.

I know you people posted this ages ago, but i thought i'd make a reply anyway because what i have to say needs saying!
He goes to the toilet on the side of the beach and does not, i repeat, does not wash his hands!!! Then hands out "fresh" donuts and other "goodies" to people. How disgusting is that!!!
Aside from the fact that he's disgustig, his prices are ridiculous and all the money he is getting is black money!!! He doesn't pay taxes(obviously)...so how annoying is that!
The Greeks all hate him, as i was warned about him by a lot of my greek friends!

only just back from Arillas today (14th June 2005) and donut man was on the beach yesterday evening. Didn't buy anthing from him - thankfully.

I dont normally enter in a discussion that involves such heavy criticism of a person trying to make a living, and hope that people understand that this man is the exception rather than the norm.
I have already heard complaints from people about his prices. PLEASE ASK THE PRICE BEFORE BUYING! it is only sensible, you would do it at home, so do it here, think its expensive? Dont buy it.

That is a really good point about the large majority of shop/taverna/bar owners being genuine and not tarring everyone with the same brush.

I think that it is because nasty episodes like this happen so rarely that people get so upset by them and are left with such nasty memories.

While passing the time of day talking to Spiros in Portofino earlier this month, we saw the doughnut man trudging up and down the beach many times, but I didn't seem him sell anything.  According to Spiros he comes from Albania and is not actually Greek, but I guess wherever the guy comes from he has to make a living.

He was on the beach in Arillas one day between 5th & 19th September and he tried to charge two women 19 (yes NINETEEN) Euro for a couple of slices of melon, a few peaches and bananas. Saw they were white (only arrived the day before), and even started helping himself to one of their purses. One of the women shouted to my wife "how much is 19 Euros?" when my wife told them they snatched the purse back off the man, shoved the fruit back in his tray and told him to go forth and multiply.

To my mind he is giving Arillas a bad name, he is unclean, unwelcome and a rip off merchant.

We used to go to Thassos (Golden Beach) and they had a Donut man - if you say the donuts in the local supermarket was 1 euro this man charged 1.20 - so he makes 20 cents for himself. The tray he had was covered (plastic lid) and he was spotless. Needless to say around lunchtime he did a good trade.

The guy in Arillas is a disgrace. Avoid him at all costs. That way he would sell nothing and take the hint.

yeah i quite agree. i watched him everyday this summer when i was down the beach and he doesn't seem to be doing to well.I think by spreading the word people are starting to take notice as i didn't see him stop for many people.

Well he is still patrolling the beach as oct 1 to oct 14 and unfortunately still having some sucess with unaware holidaymakers who paid 10 eu for a  handful of fruit.My concern is the health risk as the contents of his basket  was being devoured by a cloud of insects at one point not to mention his hands :evil:

We go to Arillas for the first time next year and will definately look out for him.  Most places have someone who sells food on the beach like that.  We have just come back from Marmaris and two chaps there were selling mouldy grapes on the beach and two policeman came along on a scooter and confiscated all their grapes. took the lot away.  A couple of hours later they were back selling them.  We never buy food like that as has been mentioned before because of being out in the sun for so long and the flies etc.  Loved the taped donut man!

My husband is covered in tattoos and I have a couple myself, this does normaly put people off BUT NOT THE DOUGHNUT MAN :wink:

People are better off walking over the road to Alexs Supermarket or Inas, at least you know you wont catch anything and the price is a fair one.  This guy has been a problem for years and if you read the previous notes he trys to take advantage of women on their own.  Enjoy your holiday.

Hello, did any one happen to save the sound clip of the donut man? The link doesnt work anymore so I tried to go to http://wishingwell.gr instead of http://wishingwell.gr/donugn3.wav but the site seems to have been hacked  :shock:

it says this site has been hacked by muslim and turkish hackers and it has a sound clip of a muslim speech, a big picture of a mosque or something and theres is a message at the bottom saying respect all muslims  :shock:  .

He was still there two weeks ago in the same clothes!  When he walked by loads of people were muttering under their breath, "donuts, fresh fruit - 20 euros"..... when a couple of girls were buying some we were saying " dont do it, dont do it"....He just hands out the stuff and you are then hooked whether you want it or not, then he wants you to buy it... Very cunning ploy!
Surely he is doing himself no favours as everyone on this website knows his reputation and it must be affecting his business.... shouldnt we tell him   ha ha!

   We saw the dreaded donut man on the beach, and just when we thought we were safe on Roda beach, up he pops!  Still in the same gear, still singing the same song!!!!  (My hubby reckons thats his corporate uniform).ha ha.

We had to laugh when we were over in June.  We went to the Festival in San Stephanos one Sunday night  and there was the donut man selling popcorn!!  I also thought I spotted the woman-who-sells-the-roses-in-the-tavernas close to the popcorn stall and it made me wonder if they are a "team"!!

On my holiday in Vilamoura a month ago there was a donut man on the beach who we had seen on a previous holdays there! I have to say it was not the same donut man as ours was very fit young and gorgeous ;-) my friend bought donuts from him but she does not even like donuts lol

hi we got caught out last year10 EUROS FOR A SLICE OF MELON!!! so we were more wary this time. he appeared on the beach every day, very brazen! the 4 people next to us ordered 2 donuts and 2 melons. he charged over 25 EUROS and after they had paid he said they still owed  20! i told the group about the info on the web site and they hastily returned the food and got a full refund

The fact that this awful man is still selling on the beach means that there must be business for him. Innocent visitors are still falling for his daylight robbery.  I've bought food, fruit etc on beaches elsewhere in Greece and Spain and never been overcharged like this moron does.

I quite agree!  We saw some girls buying from him and we said "dont do it, dont do it".  It looks very manky anyway.  Perhaps we could have tee shirts with something that says "  Donut man beware"....

Ah well his busy season is all but over so IF hes still around from mid sept I think he will have a hard sell to those of us seasoned visitors lol

We`ve bougth fruit on the beach in Zante 3 euro 50 for a lovely fruit salad , it does make you wary , at least with the forum people are aware of this awful man, we`ll be on the lookout for him , i agree eveyone should wera t shirts with beware the donut man ( it`ll be like the advert beware the judder man ) when his wallet is fat

What made us laugh on the beach was Mike, the sunbed man taking the mickey "fresh fruit, donuts, fresh fruit donuts" and laughing..... he must know the donut mans reputation!

We have just spent two glorious  weeks in Arillas & were not drawn in by this man thanks to the posts on this site. Our two teenagers thought he was hilarious & his calls became their catch phrases - "gripesfruitcarats"

his catchphrases are exactly that, catchy phrases.  I found myself mimicking him too.  Thanks to this site I was aware of this man from my holiday last year.  He paced the beach nearly every day this year but I never once seen anyone buy anything from him.

I think they should post his picture and a "NOT WANTED" sign on the noticeboard near the jetty just to warn people who dont know about him!  Wot about T-Shirts and Badges... on hats, flags.... or is that too much advertising for him!  He's becoming a bit of a celebrity now!

That is a very worthwhile idea - or maybe we could put it forward when we attend the meeting ?

I think the welcome meeting is a very good idea.  I can't believe that tourists are willing to pay so much money for a piece of melon or a doughnut.

Maybe a few of us could take over his business and stay there all summer.

Maybe donut man is relishing in all his free advertisements,and wonders why people`s common sense doesn`t prevail. If he`s making a fast buck, he`ll be back no doubt.

On Wednesday my husband saw him and followed to see what he was upto, a Bulgarian couple he thinks were had, the husband asked how much and donut man said 5euro what he didn't make clear was that he really meant 5euro for each they had 2 slices of mellon and some grapes 15EURO thats just over £10, the husband tried to argue but all donut man would say was 5euro in the end the wife must have said just pay and be done.
We know the Police have spoken to him a cpl of times this year but theres not allot they can do about it.To agree with Lindypops he will be back,for us Brits we should know better as most of us are pretty better with the euro exchange rate these days, however for the rest of our European neighbors it may be a little more difficult until they become more accustomed to the exchange rates and of course I'm sure he plays on the language barrier.
It would not be tollerated in many other places but in Arillas im afraid he seems to get away with it may be some one should follow him with another basket of friut and donuts selling them for 1EURO he may then feel he needs to compete on price!!!!

Hi it was nice to see that not many people were buying from him when we were there last week.  He did manage to sell a couple of pieces of melon and tried to short change the lady, she was quite firm with him and he did give her the correct change in the end.  He must be making quite a profit as he arrived each day in his BMW which he parked along at the bottom of the San Stephanos trail.

I was in the sea with my friend when I heard this man shout to his son " look it's the Doughnut Man go and tell your Mum".  They never bought anything but had obviously read about him on the website, it was hilarious to watch.

Hi Jan I think it is starting to warn people.  I remember a few years ago alot of tourists would buy off him and this has gradualy decreased so you never know in a couple of years time the horrible little man might have disappeared

I think its awfull Jill , we were in Zante two last summer and always bought a couple of tubs of fruit salad from one of the local kids selling it , it was always well packaged , reasonably priced and you got loads of it , and the kids enjoyed it , then you get the "Donut man " and his horrible scams , if we hadnt read about him on here we may have fallen victim , so i think its nice to have the forum hopefully one day he might magically dissapear

Lets hope anyone going to Arillas this year reads these posts.  I thought it was hilarious last year, I was plodging in teh sea and this young boy of about 10 started screaming for his Mam and Dad.  Turned out he was shouting to let them know the Doughnut man was approaching.  He thought it was so funny as they had read about him on the site and obviously had been looking out for him, out came the camera as they took photos of him.  It's not his prices that worry me its where his hands have been and the awful things he does in front of women sitting alone.  Wonder if he knows how famous he is?

Hi I think he is a perv from what people have said over the years but he also rips people off.  Last year the people next to me bought some melon and he didn't give them any change, the guy had to argue woth him and eventually gave the Melon back.  Everything is so much fresher and cheaper at Alex's

Have just got home from a fantastic party in Birmingham last night - Michelle's 50th. It was lovely to see SO many Arillians amongst the guests....Her daughters had done a brilliant job of decorating the place (Kings Heath cricket club), including lots of photos from over the years, many of us all in Arillas. Imagine my surprise when I went into the ladies loo and there on the door - yes....was a photo of the donut man!!! So now he is even famous in Birmingham....well done Lisa and Laura - you did your mum proud. The actual birthday is not till Tuesday and I have had to promise to phone her from Arillas.....

He he I can just imagine your face on seeing his picture in the toilet of all places.  I love it.

I got back last week go same time for last 4 yr but have never encountered the donut man!

perhaps he's too busy cooking his donuts and doesnt crawl out of the sand dunes until June!

We always go for a week about the 18th May and he has always been there.  We have also seen him in Sidari.  We noticed the BMW last year so must be making some money off the tourists who haven't read this site.

He probably makes more money in Sidari as the beach is fairly busy. 

Thinking about it the last time I stayed in Sidari 8 or 9 years ago i bought some melon off him - oh my god yuk!!

We didnt encounter him on our hols, we were down there most days either sunbathing or walking along the front.

Maybe he's made enough money to retire

He was there the second week of May. It was so funny , we were sat in Potofina with Lindypops and Malwhen he walked down the beach, Lindypops had never seen him before and walked out and followed him down the beach to get a good look, when she got back she just said YUk, I think that just sumed it up. It's probably on this thread somewhere already so if I'm repeating, I'm sorry but my daughter told me yesterday that you can see him on YouTube (don't know if I've spelt that right!) - she thinks he's so funny!

We arrived Friday 25th May, around midnight. Saw him the very next day on the beach!  We said "no thank you"!!

We saw him this year for the first time last week, he was on San Stefanos beach.  He came bombing round the corner in his BMW only just missing us.  It was only when he opened the boot and got out his baskets we realised who he was.  Needless to say we didn't but anything!

We have been going to Arilias for 6 years now - can't believe he is still going even though people have cottoned on to what he is doing !!!

Just got back from a 2 week holiday in arillas & we saw him twice on the beach.

One lady did buy some fruit... dunno how much she paid for it?

I was thinking ....if you ever get bored or short of money now you are in Arillas full-time, maybe you could set up a rival enterprise Eggy....but at reasonable prices. If Wendy gets fed up with you, she can just send you down to the beach. After all, it wouldn't be a bad place to work.....

God... I have just read this entire thread.... lol... lol....

That awful man has been around for years!! When my kids were little they used to sing "The donut man" song..... Frash Frooooot.... Melllown.... & Graaaaaaaaaaaaapes....

Now they are grown up...... they STILL do it... only they do it loud and clear and then crack up laughing..... in all those years they have NEVER asked for a donut!

He was doing his rounds on Monday again.

Before I could do my mother hen bit and stop them,  two young girls lying behind us had been charged 16 euros for a small tub of cherries...he even had the cheek to throw in a free banana and slice of water melon!

I didn't have the heart to tell them as they grudgingly munched into the fruit that he was a filthy old so and so and that they should really wash it first!

Thankfully I have only known the donut man to venture once along to the nudist beach.

This morning I was given this piece of paper by one of the "sunbed men" of Arillas.
Finaly the local authorities are starting to take action concerning our topic.

Well hopefully now he will see that these flyers are being distributed and will not bother to go to the beach, or at least if he does no-one will buy from him anymore, heres hoping anyway!

Im glad the local authorities have finally acknowledged the problem, too many innocent people taken advantage of!

I think he may have been warned about the notice and has moved to Crete.

When i went to Arillas three yrs ago i used to get fruit and rolls etc from the shop called Alex's which i thought was a brilliant shop.It is right on the sea front and sells everything that anyone could need.Thumbx

I saw the Donut man several times in Arillas the last few weeks...no sign of Dimitris' flyers but didn't see anyone buying anything..... so HE IS STILL THERE

Yes I also saw him. Had the Same top on as the previous 10 years!! The kids were gutted that they werent with me as he has an almost fabled reputation!! A little like the childcatcher from chitty chitty bang bang!!

Hi,just got back yesterday,I din't see donut man,but did see rose lady nearly every evening,just gave firm no when she ask me & my 11 year old daughter to by rose,she never bothered us the rest of the week

We only saw the doughnut man a couple of times. He looked a bit hot & bothered * stood in the sea for a while. The rose lady tried to sell my daughter a rose without success. She is a bit headstrong(my daughter) & was most annoyed that she had touched her face!.

We were approached on two occasions by the rose lady once in the Mirage and again at the Porto fino
on the first occasion she laid her roses across my arm pestering me to buy but moved on following a firm NO.
On the second occasion she tried to enter the Porto fino but was met by the staff and told in no uncertain terms that she would not be allowed in

This man is a shame for arillas. I can`t beliefe, thats not possible, to stop him.
For 4 Pieces of melon, he wanted 20.- Euros!!!! So, if he find 3-4 people, who gives that, he make a good, but crime business. Next year i will look for his house, his boat, his rolls royce.....

We have seen the donut man several times this visit and he also had a young boy of about 10 with him, he managed to rip some germans off, who hastily went running after him but they got no joy. We also saw him in Sidari.

Do not buy of this man.  There is another reason apart from the fact that he rips you off.  We saw him each day and he often had unhappy people running after him.  However the 2nd reason and apologies if this has already been posted.  We were lay on the beach and it was quiet at our end.  He walked the length and had a paddle and then he checked to see if anyone was watching (we were!!!) and he unzipped his flies and had a wee in the rushes at the back of the beach.  Then, without even attempting to wash his hands in the sea water which would have been bad enough, he re-arranged all the fruit with his dirty hands, directly after urinating in public and carried on back down the beach.  Dirty pig.  Sorry but I was really appauled when he is selling fruit and cakes to the public. 

Oh thats disgusting!!!!  I dont know how he continues to get away with this rip off behaviour!

We came back last Monday,after 2 fab weeks,saw the rotter 3 times on Arillas beach.Kokinos still brill after 5 times.

A question that should be on all of our lips - where does our dirty friend go in the winter?
Surely he can't still be wandering up and down the beach, weeing in the sea at his leisure all year round?
Maybe he hibernates like many animals?

He has brothers in Agadir Morocco. My wife and were there last December, there were at least 3 of them.

Saw "Mr Bad Donut Man" in Acharavi in 2006.......We always used to buy our goodies from the legitimate ice cream man (instead of this naughty donut man who used to frequent  Acharavi beach)

Has anyone ever seen this ice cream guy in Arillas?  His motorised vehicle used to break down continuously in Acharavi.....he probably ever made it to Arillas....

I quite like the sound of this donut man making a simple living for himself.

Have only heard of him being notorious since I've been on the forum but have seen him on the beach before. He does accept the word "NO."

I think that the point is that he is absolutely filthy, wears the same stinking clothes day in day out and has been seen relieving himself in the sea whilst on his rip-off travels along the beach.  I also have seen him pressurising people into buying and I for one have felt intimidated by him.

And I bet he doesnt use antiseptic hand wash either before he gives you a donut!

I have no objection to someone making a living in this way, and normally I would say the same as you - good luck to him.
However, apart from the hygene issues, this man is a CROOK!
 We have had several encounters with him, and each time he's ripped us off, in one way or another. On the last occasion, he charged my daughter (- then 9 years old) 15 euros for a donut. When I confronted him, he just muttered something in Greek and walked off.

Fair comments all. Just shows you shouldn't speak before finding out. I didn't realise he was such a smelly crook - I hate donuts and always politely told him to go away. Stronger language called for next time. Let's hope there isn't a next time...

A good many years ago I worked for the British government. The mighty Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. It was alright, had a good crowd to work and socialise with, and I got paid. Top. Mainly I was doing network and system administration stuff, and that occasionally meant going and talking to the boys in “The server room". These were the kind of guys who were kept in the padded basement, were fed pizza by the postman, and generally kept away from direct sunlight. They never seemed to do very much. Their saying was “If you can ‘ping’ it, then it aint our problem". Indeed.

One particular day I was down there arguing with someone about something and an old geezer slowly walked up to me with a look of expectancy in his eyes. He threw down a crossword puzzle in front of me which had only one question left to answer. As I said this was a good number of years ago, so I dont remember the cryptic clue I was expected to give the solution to, but what happened next stayed with me forever.

“Sorry mate, no idea what the answer is. How long have you been at it".
“Fifteeeeeeen yyyeeeeeaaarrrrssss!!!!!!” he shreiked and dug his finger nails into his eyes.

Poor fella, I must have been his only visitor that month and I failed him. DOH!

I had’nt thought about that experience for a while. But it all came flooding back to me while I was in Corfu – thanks to fresh fruit salad man.


This boy should have been wearing a mask. He walked up and down the beach all day trying to sell fruit to sun worshippers shouting “FRESH FRUIT SALAD ….. MELON ……. BANANA …….. GRAPES". No-one ever bought anything from him….. not ever, not even once, and on the last day I found out why.

Taking pity on the fella I called him over. “Just a bunch of grapes dude!". Before I knew where I was I`d been charged 15 euros (12 pounds) for a couple of grapes, a slice of melon, (I dont even like melon), 2 pears and a banana.

I only wanted a bunch of bas*ard grapes. Thats a euro a bloody grape — BTW dont beleive it when they tell you grapes are natures Malteser….. totally different I can tell you.

I was in so much shock when he told me how much I`d been stuffed for that rather than my usual “on your bike son", I just opened my wallet and handed over the cash.

I felt like I`d been raped.

While still in shock and handing over the monies, I remembered the 15 year crossword dude. What if fresh fruit salad man was cursed 15 years ago to wonder the beach night and day to try and sell fruit. The evil spell might only be lifted when he made that first sale.

“Tag!!!! Your IT!!” he would shout!!! “FIFTEEN YEARS!!!!!!” and scurry off into the distance laughing at me while I took over the burden.

It did’nt though, but if every in Roda, Corfu, watch out for Fresh Fruit salad man. He be nasty ….. and possibly cursed.

And there is a couple of words that he does understand!!

Just returned from my first 'solo' trip to Arillas.
Full update to follow. Had a really great time.
Just wanted to report that the donut man was seen by me and all at the Gratziella Taverna at 15.12 hrs. on Thursday 15th. May attempting to sell his dubious looking goods, donuts, fruit from dual panniers. When he saw me taking 'photos he made a getaway running up the beach towards the horizon hotel as fast as his legs would carry him!

No idea Lindy as it was my sister in law saw him,we forgot to tell them about him.he stayed down the bottom end of the beach near Gratzella,and did not come up our end.

Looking at forum stats (thanks TerryW - never knew they existed) I was horrified to see that we are all so obsessed with Donut Man. 37000+ views, endless posts. It is second after Arillas Today in numbers of visits!

What are we doing??? Fine - let's all get our cameras out and frighten him off. Let's be in solidarity in refusing to speak let alone deal with him. But maybe it's time to spend our time on something better like bebis name day etc???

We experienced the finest donuts ever in a beautiful little bakery on the way to Afionas, just before the sharp steep right hand bend. [On the last climb up ]
They also have lots of other fantastic goodies for the [ I will lose it when I get back ].
 

Yes we luv the lemon pie, cheesecake, merangue-whatever it is, ahhhhhhhhhhhh beautiful. Shouldn't say to much because always sold out after our hike up to the Bakery (hands off).

Well I like donuts, but there's no way I would ever buy one from him!  During our two weeks in September last year we didn't see him at all, and we only saw him once this year during our two weeks at the beginning of May.

Perhaps we should all take up Phil's suggestion and keep taking pictures of him to frighten him off.

Saw him when we were there in May.  Think somebody may have done what John B suggested, because by the time I had got my camera out he was driving past us (we were in the Marina) looking really grumpy, lol. x

When we were there this month,he only seemed to show every second day.He,s gone very quite on it,he did,nt say do nuts once coming up the beach only called out Gripes fruit salad.Same sweat shirt on as last couple of years.I saw him make a couple of sales,one on our first day from a large family  group,but suprise suprise they never bought of him again.His water melon must have been cut with a razor it was so thinly cut,would love to know what he charged those people.The sad thing was his victims were sitting only yards from Alex Supermarket where they could have bought it straight from the fridge cabinet at I,m sure a fraction of what they paid.He does,nt come from Arillas and is not typical of the local traders/restuarants who give good value for money.

There I was, talking to a man about a canoe, when a strange noise came from behind me, "Donuts, Donuts", and there he was - the Donut man.

I followed him along the beach.



Watched him, while a conned a lady out of €7.00 for one doughnut and one small slice of melon. ( I wished I had recorded the conversation)



I then followed him again and asked if I could take his Photo.

We were there from 28th july to 11th August & didn't see him either. The kids were disappointed as they wanted to hear his call & take pictures.
We got our daily snacks from Helens creperie or the Horizon, they do a lovely smoked salmon, cucumber & cream cheese baguette for 5 euros which fed 2 of us-yum!
