Huge yacht spotted off Arillas?
« on: January 19, 2017, 11:31:07 AM »
Hi all,

Some time ago, someone posted a photo of a huge ( - very distinctive - ) yacht sailing past Arillas. My first thought when I saw it was 'Russian Oligarch?'. It cropped up in conversation the other day, and I've been trying to find the photo but can't.
Can anybody help find it, or re-post it?

I posted one of a yacht near the White House in Kalami? Was that it? If so it is under A to Z of photos but I am happy to post it again if you think it is it.

I did see the Maltese Falcon off Arillas but can't remember if that was last year or the year before

Hi , If it's the one we saw in May it could have been Andrey Melnichenko the Russian oligarch whose boat is called A .

Lol. Very good Eggy - as usual.

To be honest, if I had $300 million lying around, it certainly wouldn't go on this. Selfishly, I would buy all of the land currently on sale around Arillas, just to stop anyone else buying it and building on it, and then build myself a modest little place next to the Tria. You can but dream.

Looks more like a ship than a yacht.  Take the sail away and it is  definitely more the size of ship. When does a yacht become a ship???

Hi Sonia

NO i am not a geek i looked it up

The Answer:
The determining factors that distinguish boats from ships has evolved over time. The term "ship" formerly referred to a sailing vessel having three or more masts. In modern times, however, a ship is usually a vessel of more than 500 tons of displacement.

Displacement tonnage is a way to measure a ship's capacity. The number, expressed in tons, is the weight of a vessel as it floats, or the weight of the water it displaces. By a common definition, a boat is small enough to be carried by a ship. And all submarines are called boats, regardless of their size
