Paddling around Corfu
« on: January 26, 2019, 11:02:50 AM »
With all the recent bad weather I thought I would introduce you to all the new species appearing.

Dichia Fullis
.

Generally found at the base of any sloping grass verge and is a greedy little specimen, absorbing excess water. Not to be confused with Mudiess Ditchia which absorbs only what it needs to survive and protects itself with a sticky outside coating.
Caution must be taken , when approaching DICHIA FULLIS and it is advised never to venture in it. Only those with waist length fishing waders should attempt this, but there is no guarantee that any "adventurer" would ever re-appear.!!

More unusual species to follow soon.

Now meet......................GULLIS NASTI - Nickname - "Corfu Car Trap"
.

,
A very pesky and mischievous type which loves all those soil and stone tracks especially those on a slight incline and leading to properties. After rain they quickly form into snake like creatures and generally venture from left to right across any track to confuse approaching vehicles.
Warning - Slide into any larger Gullis Nasti and your stress levels will increase and your vehicle value will decrease.

so..... now meet...
IN-POTTI HOLUS AGRA-VATIN

and
IN-POTTI HOLIS BAHLIX

Their first love is tarmac roads and can , very quickly , eat through the outer layer of any unsuspecting macadam, exposing the fleshy underbelly of sand/cement and sharp gravel.  They are perennial and will greedily absorb any available water.

IN-POTTI , number 1 , "AGRA-VATIN" is the lesser of two evils and can, easily , be by-passed if you are aware of their locations.
But find any number 2's IN-POTTi , and they are very hard to swallow! (We are now talking "BAH-LIX" here.)
This one can easily join , with others and go across the width of any road to confuse and create turmoil amongst drivers.

They also have a liking for rubber and will quickly strip any tyre that enters it's trap. Cyclists and walkers should also beware. (Especially those with wellies!!)

Possible benefits
Will increase concentration levels
Reduces speed of all vehicles
Helps to keep local council workers in employment

Dangers - Can increase motoring expenses and treble your vocabulary of bad language

Cheers

Well . Sandy...... You may have already seen "Crapus Rhodus",  on the A-Z, and identified with POTTI HOLUS (BAHLIX).
(I tend to use the alternative name when I drop into one)

Now...... be aware of ...........SKATA RHODUS/color]
.

.
For all you "novices" out there, the best way to approach SKATA RHODUS , is NOT to approach SKATA RHODUS !!!! - However , there is always a first time to be caught unexpected !!. Generally located on a narrow road , halfway down an incline. Your first time meeting will induce heavy sweating and a blood pressure produced , that, if you have one of those "monitors" attached to your arm, will ensure blue sparks emitting from it!!
A 6 point turn will be needed to escape as it covers the full width of the road. And then don't reverse back too much as POTTI HOLUS will grab you.
How much BAHLIX can you take???

You willl then make a mental note of it and plan your own diversion next time.
(Although it could be like getting to Sidari , from Arillas , via Corfu Town. - But... we cope with it)
Cheers
