driving licence & car hire
« on: August 04, 2006, 09:57:50 PM »
hi all, coming to arilas on 1st sept, wondering about car hire & terms & conditions of hire,if you have a uk photocard licence do you need the counterpart as well as the photocard to hire a car 7 what difference if any does it make if you have points on your licence,i'd appreciate any comments or experiences you can give in relation to this

also can you haggle with the car hire prices, to get them cheaper ,or is that a no no ?

Hello all

You will need both the counterpart and  the photocard if you thinking to hire a car.

Full insurance except the tires and the under carriage of the car. Excess 200 euros.

Hope that helps

Hi everybody
as far as driving license and points are concerned no problem all you need is your photo license , just book before you go go if you want a car for the whole holiday, works out a lot cheaper and you avoid transfer times

Hi, I have noticed that the posts on this thread are all about photo driving licences, I just wondered if the normal UK paper driving licence along with my mug shot from my passport as photo ID would be ok, the car rental website just says I need a valid driving licence which mine is. Thanks, Neil.

I was wondering that too because that is all we have got.

We still use our old paper licences with no problem at all.

There are holes in Pete's paper licence where it has been folded for so many years and you can hardly see any writting on it, but we used it with no differculty at all in May. Viv

Great, thanks for that.  We might decide to hire a car for a couple of days... we dont want it for the whole holiday as you feel you have to use it and I dont want to be stuck in a car for two weeks.  We do sometimes  hire a car depending on where we are like when we are in Crete we have a car to go and see our friends etc., but thats not really a break when you have to go visiting everyone is it?

Quite agree, Sue, we usually just hire a car for a few days in the middle of our fortnight, so that's probably what we'll do in September.
