11 May in Arillas
« on: April 19, 2007, 09:47:33 PM »
We are thinking of coming to Arillas on 11 May but are a little worried in case it is a little too quiet.  We went to Pefkos in Rhodes at the beginning of the season last year and it was almost deserted (quite a few restaurants, shops etc., not open) so would prefer to go to a resort where there is a little more life!  Could you please let me know whether it will be quiet or will some of the establishments be closed.  Thank you

At least you won't have that hill to contend with, Judste!  I went to Pefkos a couple of years ago and this hill was nothing like it was described in the brochure, it was a killer and we were staying right at the top - the views were good though but it did put you off taking a stroll to the beach.  I would say Arillas has a very different feel to Pefkos and all I can add is that I'm going to Arillas for this third time this year but would never go back to Pefkos, but that's just my opinion.  Have you looked at Sidari?  That's a very lively place.

Have just got back from a week at the Kaloudis (returned 11/4), found about half the town was open and there was sufficient to keep anyone happy even though it was the first week of the season. As a bonus, the plane going back had lots of empty seats. The only thing that wasn't running that we would have liked were the pedalos and water sports, but we found one in Sidari instead by the canal d'amour. Oh, and not all the entertainment nights were on yet at the Kaloudis - but the greek night and karaoke were running, and the pool was open if a tad chilly. The kids didnt mind.
As far as I can tell, packages for the first week of the season are often cheap and a great deal for a family. We had two days of unsettled weather and then hot sun for the rest of the week. And a real bonus was the light traffic on the mountainous roads with lots of hairpin bends as we had hired a minibus.  Mind you navigating to Arillas was a laugh after dark with no decent map. Even the A roads get drastically worse after the village of Troumpeta. Then we got lost and went via Sidari and san stefano. Probably best to use the coach transfer and hire after you get there.

Thoroughly recommend the Brouklis where we had the best food of all the places we tried, loved the spit roast lamb and the courgette balls (Kolokithokeftedes?) which we shall have a go at making at home.

I liked Arillas very much and if we ever get the chance we would definitely go back. But so many greek islands, so little time!

Said hello to Dmitris. Thanks for your great food and your hard work on this website.
