I'm getting just a bit worried about that heat. Even by my standards 105 degrees is HOT and after the dismal "summer" here it will be more difficult to adapt. I usually spend the whole day on the beach but don't think I'll survive if this heatwave goes on!

9:30 this morning Sandy I took Wendy down for a swim. Fairly quiet. That's the best time to go because, after 10:30 it starts to get unbearable.

Was there last week and got hotter each day, 40 + in day and 30 at night. Found it too hot to walk and realy see all but great for swimming and doing nothing, Even the locals found it hot and told us it was unusually hot. But still the island was green and the flowers beautiful

Yesterday the 24th July 2007 it was the hotest day that my parrents can remember.!
The thermometer hit the 45 degrees at 15:30 .
It has been 36 degrees under my vines outside the taverna which was a new reccord since I have started to observe my weather station.
We had an idea for keeping our customers cool by providing "Topless Service"
which was a good touch for the evening.

Forgot to say this servise is after midnight and is extra charged  ;)

( Jealous? - Whose jealous? )
I must make sure Mrs Egg doesn't see this picture. We can't afford to eat out every night after midnight.

Difficult choice Sandy - Between spending extra money or " perspiring profusely." <<<< >>>> 2 very good words for 5pm in the afternoon!

Dimitris tells me the picture was actually taken about 12:30 last niight.
Just shows how hot it was.
( And Noufris turned down Wendy's offer as our gardener! ) - Hmmmm

How is corfu coping ?
I was told that most of Greece is on alert because of the extreme heat, forest fire risk etc.

Lozicle
We have a fireman as a neighbour. No one is allowed to have bonfires this time of year but some do. If they get called out the person responsible faces a fine. Any lighted cig flipped from a car, in this heat, can do a lot of damage as well. It's all kept low key but it is a concern especially the power supply. Air conditioning working non stop all over the place. One helluva drain on electricity usage.
We had 5 power cuts the other day, in one day, but only 2/3 mins each time. I am amazed that the water hasn't been cut off yet. It is not unknown to be without water for a day or two. That's why a lot of people have water tanks to tide them over.
We have a 2000 ltr back up tank here which. if water is cut off, would last about a week.
( It's even warm water coming out the cold tap!)
