HI ALL

C FOR CACTUS Prickly pear

Opuntia, commonly called prickly pear, is a genus in the cactus family, Cactaceae.[1] Prickly pears are also known as tuna (fruit), sabra, nopal (paddle, plural nopales) from the Nahuatl word nōpalli for the pads, or nostle, from the Nahuatl word nōchtli for the fruit; or paddle cactus. The genus is named for the Ancient Greek city of Opus, where, according to Theophrastus, an edible plant grew and could be propagated by rooting its leaves.[2] The most common culinary species is the Indian fig opuntia

Can you a prickly pear?
Now that the skin is removed, you can slice up the prickly pear to eat. The prickly pear has small, hard seeds that you cannot bite through, but they are safe to swallow if you prefer. Or you can chew on the fruit and seeds and spit the seeds out. You can also use a juicer or strainer to remove the seeds.

KEVIN     Has anyone tried one

HI Patrick

How to Enjoy a Prickly Pear

Step 1: What You Need. All you need is two forks and a sharp knife. ...
Step 2: Cut Off the Ends. Stick a fork in the side of the fruit to hold it steady and cut off each end. ...
Step 3: Cut a Slit in the Skin. Make a cut from down the side of the fruit, end to end. ...
Step 4: Peel the Fruit. ...
Step 5: Enjoy! ...

How to Enjoy a Prickly Pear

Thanks for that Kevin. I never knew they were edible.

Are the ones in Arillas edible?

If so, what time of year are they ripe?
