HI ALL
a bit of information to digest

P FOR PHOENIX CANARIENSIS AT THE TRIA ADELPHIA
The phoenix it has gone now been cut down

The palm weevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus is one of two species of snout beetle known as the red palm weevil, Asian palm weevil or sago palm weevil. The adult beetles are relatively large, ranging between two and four centimeters long, and are usually a rusty red colour—but many colour variants exist and have often been classified as different species (e.g., Rhynchophorus vulneratus). Weevil larvae can excavate holes in the trunk of a palm trees up to a metre long, thereby weakening and eventually killing the host plant. As a result, the weevil is considered a major pest in palm plantations, including the coconut palm, date palm and oil palm.[2]

Originally from tropical Asia, the red palm weevil has spread to Africa and Europe, reaching the Mediterranean in the 1980s. It was first recorded in Spain in 1994,[3] and in France in 2006. Additional infestations have been located in Malta and Italy (Tuscany, Sicily, Campania, Sardinia, Lazio, Marche, Puglia and Liguria). It is also well established throughout most of Portugal, especially in the South.[4] It also has established in Morocco, Tunisia, and other North African countries.[5] The weevil was first reported in the Americas on Curaçao in January 2009[6] and sighted the same year in Aruba.[7] It was reported in the United States at Laguna Beach, CA late in 2010[8][9]
                                               INSECTICIDE

The red palm weevil (RPW), Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Olivier (1790), is a lethal pest of palms worldwide. In Italy, RPW severely damage Phoenix canariensis. Infested palms can recover if treated at an early stage of infestation. Therefore the aim of this study was to to describe an IPM programme for RPW control by endotherapy as a safe measure in urban and periurban area. A new apparatus was developed to inject insecticides (Imidaclopride, Dimethoate and fenthion) into the trees. High productivity and less cost of apparatus are importent to cotrol wide area infested by RPW. This injection chemical control method is environmentaly friendly with any polution drived from draft of insecticides during treatment. High human saftey is considered for worker and implementers.

This is why Arillas  are losing this lovely plant

How very interesting.  I was aware that many lovely palm trees have been cut down because of a problem but didn't know exactly what it was.  Have noticed the loss of the trees in several of my holiday locations.  Lets hope early action with the insecticide mentioned by Kev saves a few palms.
We now come to the somewhat awkward letter of Q, so will have to search long and hard to find a suitable picture.
So from 16th September 2016 here is QUIET MORNING ON ARILLAS BEACH

Patrick , credit to you and Kev n Bev and "Turkeyleg" for all these interesting snips. - Even I love to see them and I live here so GOTTABEGOOD.
Have a good Xmas break and if Father Xmas brings you more speedos then please tell us .
(I need to warn Arillas folk)
and.... I use "Turkey leg" as it is xmas so a "Turkey foot" does not compute. - Who wants a Turkey foot at Xmas (Possible only his other half as long as he supplies the iron)

Cheers

Hi
Merry Christmas Eggy to you and your family
Geoff
It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than  to speak up and remove all doubt.

Many thanks for the good wishes, Eggy - hope you and Mrs Egg have a great Christmas too.

With my birthday presents
by pj's memories, on Flickr

Don't think the things under the Christmas tree include more Speedos as I've requested a winter coat, for Christmas and some navy cord trousers for my birthday on 28th!

However I have a goodly stock of swim briefs and will be bringing them to Arillas in September so you'd better stand by with that warning.

Best wishes too, to Kevin who is helping keep this thread running, and to Geoff (I asked him why 'Turkeyfoot', but I can't repeat the reason he gave me on a family forum like this).

Merry Christmas one and all,
Pat
