Missing in Magoulades
« on: December 01, 2007, 04:59:38 PM »
I am hoping that somebody on this website may be able to help me.
My daughter Samantha (known as Sam) blonde girl in her 20s, has been
staying in Magoulades with a Greek/American girl named Deana and her husband's family.  I understand the mother's name is Sophia.  Other than that I have no information.  However I have not been able to contact Sam for some time
and am worried about her.  She has a flight booked home this Wednesday, but
so far has not contacted me for details.  If anyone knows of her and can
contact her, please ask her to contact home as a matter of urgency.

Sorry to hijack your site for these reasons, but don't know what else to do?
Is there an internet cafe in Magoulades, I am sure Sam said she went to one sometimes.   Thank you.

I wish you well with locating anyone that knows of Sam's whereabouts. I am sure she is ok and is having such a good time, that time has flown and she doesn't realise how long it has been since she contacted you. Keep us updated.

Hi Trish
As  Diane has said, time seems to fly past here and before you know it you've even lost what day it is.

I have taken the liberty of printing off your posting and will make a few enquiries tomorrow and Monday. - Th main thing is " No Worries" This is North Corfu here with loads of friendly genuine people.

Thank you all for your kind support.  I appreciate I am probably worrying for nothing.  However, Sam asked me to book her a flight which I have done for Wednesday the 5th December, since which time she has not contacted me to get details.  It is this
lack of contact after her request that concerns me.  Thank you all once again, and I am jealous of you all being able to spend so much time in wonderful North Corfu.

Hello Trish!
Do you know the exact names of the people they are staying with?
I can then find their number or ask some people from there that would possible know.
I'm sure everything is OK!! Magoulades is a small community something like a "one horse town".

regards,

dimitris

Hello Dimitris,

Thanks for your reply.  Sam was staying with a family in the countryside.  They have two sons, one of whom is married to a young woman named Deana who worked in Sidari this summer and whose grandfather lives in the area.  The mother of the household is named Sophia.  Sam told me that it took her about half an hour to walk to the internet cafe (where I understand she is known).  Other than that the only other information I have is that Deana has an uncle who is Downs Syndrome.    It is not that it has been a long time since I heard from Sam, more that she asked me to book her a flight home, which I have done for this coming Wednesday - and a week later she has not returned to me for details.  Her mobile phone has been switched off and nobody has heard from her.  I know she would not wish me to lose the money I have paid for her flight, and it is her silence at this time that concerns me.

Thanks to you all for your kindness.

Trish

Hi Trish,I do hope your daughter makes contact with you, as a mum of a 21yr old daughter I can empathise with you especially when all you want to know is that they are safe and well, sometimes they forget how we worry,I am sure from what you have described that Dimitris or some of the other locals who visit this forum will be able to help, lets hope she gives you a call later today.

Hi Trish I am sure everything will be ok.  We have friends who live in Magoulades and it is such a friendly community.  Our Daughter stayed over in Arillas for 6 months a couple of years ago and often forgot to contact us, I was able to contact our friends who she was staying with for updates.  I can understand you worry but I'm surry Eggy and Dimitris will be able to help.

Trish
Wegg and I will be going over to Magoulades during the morning. I will also make a couple of calls to some House Agents who tend to know a lot of what goes on in various areas.
These extra details you've sent though will help.
Cheers
Negg

Thank you Negg and Wegg,

I would love to know the story behind those names!

Hopefully you will have some luck - my daughter's friend Deana
though Greek, speaks English with a broad American accent, and it is
Deana's husband's family that Samantha (Sam) is stayng with.  Their
home must be rural as Sam told me that she had watched their mother kill a
chicken for lunch, but had declined watching a pig being slaughtered on
another day.   I believe she told me the home was in the mountains
overlooking Sidari (but I am unsure as to the accuracy of this memory).

Your support is heartfelt.  Thanks.

Trish
