« on: April 14, 2008, 07:10:47 PM »
Hi all
been a while since i last posted - if you remember me and liz just had the twins when we came last and they were only 3 months old when we visited arillas.
we didnt have much of a holiday last year(a rainy week in a caravan in rhyl)
and god how we missed arillas.
so we have just booked up for two weeks in august and are staying at the athina apartments - so has any one stopped here any advice  and whats it like.

I LOVE ARILLAS IT'S GODS LITTLE ACRE.

Welcome back Lee. Jen an me have twins but they are 27 now... Can't find a lot on Athina appartments in Accommodation Reviews (still worth a look?) but hopefully someone who's been to them will help.

Forum members all agree, but Dimitris in particular agrees with the second one. Look back over some of the recent posts...

Having just completed a marathon 3 hour session reading and replying (was only away for 2 days...) I went to the online Arillas map, and realised you will be staying at what Jen and I affectionately call "The Cake Shop." It is just opposite Annas Studios where we are staying in July. It's main identity is as a bakery and their cakes are TO DIE FOR. They have several tables at the front where you can sit and snack or drink. Very good black russian... We have always used it as a "hill breaker" both up and down. Quick cake, drink etc. We have always stayed with Alekos Sgouros, and are great friends with owners of Christos appts much further up the hill towards San Stefanos.

Situated up the hill past whispers and calypso (which sadly have both gone now) then Mathraki and just on the corner opposite Annas, it is owned by a lovely Greek family - dad, mum and two young men. Never stayed there so can't say what the studios are like, but others who have will be able to tell you more.

Interested to know how you found them - we've never seen them online etc.

Think I have placed them correctly, but open to correction by other forum members.

Hope this helps
Phil

Is that the place with the very high, posh stone wall facing the road.

Hi BG

Yes I think it is the one with the posh stone wall.  The cake shop is the one with the fountain in the garden at the front if I remember rightly.

My son stayed at Athina a couple of years ago and it is opposite the bakery, but not the ones behind the stone wall....a bit lower down the road. We booked privately through the owner and I think she advertised on the forum. There are two studios there, each slightly different and they were quite well equipped. One had a nice garden at the side and I think the other just had a veranda at the front. My son was fine there. Hope this helps.

Ashley stayed in the 'A' category ones behind the cake shop, I've not been inside but she was happy there, apparently they are quite spacious.

As Sandy says, opposite the cake shop the two small studios are on the ground floor and upstairs are apartments with four beds, if I remember correctly two of which are on a mezzanine floor.

I think the gorgeous property behind the wall is called Kaloudis villa.

Eileen.

biglee, Enjoy your Holidays 8)

From my knowlege the Athina apartments and Athina studios

http://www.arillas.com/athina/

are run by Jorgos(Greek) and Marietta(German) lovely people.
They Used to run the Fenix Bar(brilliant place) In San Stef.
I don't know if they are related to the cake shop/Cafe family?.

Athina Apartments are separate to the Cafe/Cake shop
ie. to the left of the cake shop, and set back a bit, as you face the entrance to the cake shop,
sharing the same courtyard/carpark

Athina Studios are on the opposite side of the road between the two sharp bends
(stayed there 2 years ago and enjoyed our stay)

they are not the ones with the posh stone wall :( the gardens for that place are behind the studios.

yammas

Ps. philandjen you need to take those beer goggles off they have been online for a few years now :)
