Short cut from San stephanos
« on: June 18, 2008, 11:50:31 PM »
We have always enjoyed the walk to San Step. but after a good lunch, found the walk up the hill back to Arillas a bit  of a drag. But after four years we have found a short cut.Near the top of the hill out of San Step. where the sign points to Arillas take a sharp right on a small road go 20 mtrs.turn left onto a small track which gives youn a delightful meander down to the road ,turn left to the Mathraki Studios or right to the beach. This gives you a saving of 20 minutes.Hope this helps other sufferers of the effects of a good greek lunch a Ltr plus of wine and the prospect of a long hike home

Is this returning to Arillas via the road way or up the hill which leads to the small church?

This is the main road out of San Stephanos, after two major bends on the hill you see the sign pointing to Arillas turn onto the small road on your right.the same route is a good option if you want to avoid the Donkey Track going out of Arillas to San Steph.

Tbf a moderalty okay walker wont struggle up there, aslong as you take plenty of sun cream, and water and cover you head you wont have any problems.

Those three key eliments people advoid and they fin it difficult.

I think at an average pace plus stopping to take on water apply cream and of course take a load of photos it will take a mear 45mins!

We have used thar route many a time also. It is a lot quicker and doesn't seem as tiring in the heat, maybe because lots of shade. It seemed to be more popular too in September.
