Taking dogs on holiday
« on: April 15, 2009, 05:26:37 PM »
I just wondered if anyone has taken their dog on holiday.

If so,

   - was the dog ok after the flight ( i.e. traumatised)?

   - did it cope with the heat ok?

   - how much does it cost?

   - is it difficult to arrange?

   - would you do it again?

Does you dog have a passport? did he/she have its blood test at least 6 months ago?
even if the answer is yes he/she will have to see a vet within 24hrs of return flight to be treated for flee &  ticks and tapeworm. Taking this into consideration I wouldn't take Kizzy with us for less then a month as I think it would be unfair on her, remember she is not just away from you for both out & return flight times but at least 3hrs before each and 2 hrs after each. This is a personnal view and I do know people that take dogs with them for a fortnight. Viv

I agree, Viv.

I wouldn't dream of taking her just for a fortnight, for the reasons you've outlined. I was thinking more of what we'd do if we did get the chance to spend a whole summer in Arillas. We couldn't imagine life without Penny, she's such a huge part of it and she would certainly be the major consideration in any plans we might make.

Our friends take their dog with them to France often, but generally, they drive over. If you were able to spend all summer there that may be an easier option than flying.
