UK Airport parking
« on: July 29, 2009, 05:08:34 PM »
We've never used this before as one of the family always takes us to the airport. However our flight to Arillas from Doncaster means leaving home at 3.30am so didn't want to tire one of our little darlings out. Also land back at 2.20pm which would mean one of them taking time off work to pick us up.
Looked at taxis but cheapest is £40 each way. Finally booked secure airport parking for £49.99 at Donny airport. The parking area is directly opposite the entrance to the airport terminal building. So out of the car and 2 mins later in the queue for check in.
Ace.

Living in Sheffield, Doncaster airport is convenient for us too.  We flew from there to Spain last christmas and thought the parking was great.  The most important thing is to book the parking as soon as possible as the later you leave it the more expensive it gets.
Have a great holiday,
Fiona

We fly from Newcastle airport, no problems parking there. Car park is nextdoor to the airport & buses come round every 5 mins & drop you off at the airport entrance. Coming home the bus driver dropped us off next to where the car was parked instead of driving on to next bus stop.

Our Flights from Birmingham are always at 6:30 am on am Monday morning which means getting up at about 2.00am, getting ready, driving to the airport (30 mins), parking at the Airport for about £90, and getting the shuttle bus to departures. All a bit hectic.

This year we tried something different. We got our son to take us to the airport at 7:30 pm on Sunday night. Checked in at the new Etap Hotel, which was £35 for the room. We went over to the airport and had a bite to eat and a drink at Weatherspoons before going to bed at about 10.00pm.

We set the alarm for 3.30am, showered and dressed and did the three minute walk to departures (thats how close the hotel is), checked in and then went to have breakfast.

This way was cheaper and more relaxed. The only downside ws that the room was too warm and Helen didn't sleep too well and there were no tea making facilities. The room didn't have internet access which would have been handy as we could have seen which check in desk to go to.

Next time we will try the Ibis Hotel which is adjacent to the Etap. The rooms are a bit more expensive at £59 per room per night but the rooms  have internet and climate control. I  really did like the quick walk from the Hotel to Departures. Its worth trying and its cheaper than parking at the airport. You just need to get  family or friends to take you to the airport and to pick you up on arrival back from holiday.

A few years ago we tried this concept by booking in at the Britannia, near Manchester Airport.
Can't remember the cost (I think about £80 for the room) and the idea was we'd leave the car at the hotel and be ferried to the airport.
This DID NOT happen - we arrived at the hotel, were told the car park could only accommodate us over night and then had to drive ourselves to the airport the next morning. The good part was we were in the expensive car part right next to the terminal.  The bad part was the hotel was absolutely awful. We didn't bother to complain - the room itself wasn't too bad but the communal areas (staircase, lift, lounge etc) were pretty filthy. The food was very basic and overpriced.  Still, we did enjoy the holiday and were thankful we didn't have to go back to the hotel to collect our car!
On the plus side, we've stayed at the Hilton by Standsted airport and throughly enjoyed the experience, as we did at one of ths type of hotel by Gatwick also

Hi Janis, I can recommend The Crowne Piza at Manchester which works out about £99 for the night plus 15days parking. Really nice hotel good food, 5 mins walk to terminal and car left where you park it. (you take keys with you) Have looked just at parking and the night at hotel works out more or less free and a lot cheaper then a taxi. Viv

Thanks for that, Viv - we'll be travelling with Joan and John for Arillas in May, this year we went from Leeds Bradford and they flew from Manchester.  LBA isn't a prob for us as Charlotte (our youngest) works just round the corner so we get free parking there!!
We'll speak to J & J and see what they want to do
Hope to see you again soon!
Love, Janis x

if you prebook parking at birmingham 90 days before departure and you're parked for over 5 days it's £2.99 per day
