Travelling with pets
« on: November 10, 2010, 01:26:14 PM »
Does anyone have experience of travelling with pets?

I want to bring my 2 cats with me to Corfu next year and have
made a few inquieries. They have to get a vaccine against rabies
at the vets and a pasport. So far so good.

But then what? I tried to Google to find out where and how to book
the flight and what rules about transport-boxes etc, etc. without luck.

Any advice will be very welcome.

Get in touch with the airline you use Connie, they are always happy to give advice, especially if they can make some money from you!!
I do know that each cat will have to have its own travel carrier and that they don't always travel on the same flight as you.

The love affair continues.

Hi Connie,

Go to http://www.agni.gr/ & look on their forum. Type 'pets' into search & lots of info will show. To find the search box, click on the magnifying glass in the top right corner.

OR

take a look at http://ww2.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pets/pets/travel/ This only applies to the U.K but it may help. I'm sure Denmark will have something similar.

I know that the travel box needs to be tall enough for the cat to stand in (ears not touching the ceiling), enough room to turn around and water supply.
Life is good ;)

Thank you all.
I've got a lot of planning to do during this winter,
but I think this will be the most difficult part as my
cats are very shy to strangers.

So I've got to take everything into consideration and
find the least stressful solution for my little sweeties.

Thanks Harold,
Yes, there's a lot of things to consider. Makes me
a bit nervous even thinking of it already.

Harold is spot on - the unheated hold might be at about minus 40 degrees for at least 3 hours of the flight from Denmark. I always wondered how they transported animals in the hold, not realising that it could be heated. Will that cost a lot though?

What about fixing up a land/sea trip with treasured possessions, including the cats and you? Just an idea.

Phil

Thanks Phil, I have only recently started trying to
find out what to do and how to do it the best possible way.

Someone told me, that you can have your pets with you
in the cabin if they are under a certain weight and size. That
would ofcourse be the very best solution for us.

But I don't know yet if it's true, maybe it's only for people
with private jets ( ha, ha just trying to be funny!).

Anyway, I seriously take all the advice I can get with grattitude.
Love Connie x
