We came on holiday , one year, with commission free T/C's to change here.

Hire Car 300e
Appt       350e
Eating out etc 350e
Cigs / alcohol to take home 500e ( we both smoke )

Approx 1500e for two weeks. By taking advantage of the exchange rate we made around 42e extra. ( Peannuts, I know but a free meal one evening )

So , business to Arillas plus a few small extras to go with those pork chops.
The free meal is irrelevant. The business to locals is worth it's weight.

How much will I get for 2s 11d I always prefer pre decimal coinage. I've got some old drachmas here somewhere.

I didn't know that travellers cheques were commission free? Now that is a useful piece of information.

Would anyone object if I asked for 3 pork chops?

;-)

Jo please don't bring cash, my son-in-law once had his bag stolen at the airport on the way out, he had the T/cheques and My daughter had the cash so they were able to claim once they got to Kos but it caused a lot of upset.

Travellers cheques seem a good option then, maybe a 50/50 split with cash is the way to go.
I have been trying to guestimate  how much we will need for the 3 of us (our daughter is 13) for the first 2 weeks of August.
As we are on a package so its just food and drink with the occasional trip. Not sure on the cost of living as this is our first trip back to Arillas after 14 years. Any rough guestimates would be welcome, I dont want to go short and I know there is no ATM!
Thanks for any advise,

Sue

  Hi Maizetina

Depends if you like to eat out at every meal time? If you do I think a rough guide would be 70 to 100 euros a day. If you can do your own self catering - brekkie should be easy and the supermarkets carry a good range of foodstuffs and fresh fruit. Cooked British brekkie starts at just under 5 euros.

Options for lunch range from a very reasonable greek salad or toasted something at 4 euros. Evening meals start at just under 10 euros for three courses in many tavernas.  Depends if you like to have a glass of wine or beer with your meal aswell. If you think 8 or 9 euros for a round of drinks for the three of you you might have a good idea what an evening out will cost.

My advice is split whatever you fetch into two for both weeks and when it runs out it's sardines on toast. Believe me I've done that before :-) and still had a great time

   Enjoy your holiday folks

Cheers Nan x

To answer Jo's question I have looked at tourist rates compared to Arillas rates and £2500 to euros, changed in Arillas. brings you an approx extra 42 euros at todays rates. This is after the 1.5% commission charge.

But... For that amount of cash you may get the commission rate down.
1% commission puts another 15e in your favour.

And... don't forget you can play the market, albeit in a small way, and watch the rates rise, or maybe fall.

Estimates based on the figures I have today.
(42e ? - Pork chops all round then!)

Nan luvver, just get yer rear end round to Bardis and make me laugh like you just did. I upset the whole bar here when I exploded just a few seconds ago. 2s11d didn't even buy a record when I was young. And I give you more than a few years.

I am SO looking forward to sharing some Arillas time. Mind you, none of the clocks work.....

Phil

Well I bit the bullet the other day and was offered 1.115 so decided to go for that and consider it one less job done! One thing that I did find confusing and a little tip...When I rang a few places and asked what their rate was I also asked exactly how many euros I would get for my money.  Even though somewhere else matched the EXACT rate, the amount differed by around 180E!! Figure that out! Just worth checking.
