Greek Air Traffic Control strike 2011
« on: May 11, 2011, 01:00:44 PM »
Hi all.

For a lot of you going later in the year this probably (hopefully) wont apply, but currently there are reports of Greek Air Traffic control striking. So far today (11/05/11) Easyjet has cancelled ALL flights to and from Greece including Corfu. By the looks of things only the flight operator's websites will tell you any information about this and if your flying in the next 2 weeks, Id check, but for the moment, Easyjet are only saying day by day... which HOPEFULLY means they expect a resolution in the next day or 2.

To say Ill be unhappy if I cant make it out to Arillas this year is a bit of an understatement... not even all the refunds from Easyjet or compensation from them (not saying its their fault) will do.

As you may be able to tell, Im concerned!

Hi Sam I've just found out about this ... I'm hoping and praying that you, Barry and me, and all our other friends are not affected.  Fingers crossed!

Found this Info on easytravelreport.com

Greek unions will hold a 24 hour general strike  Wednesday, 11 May, 2011.

Greek air traffic controllers will close Greek airports. No flights in or out Greek air space from 12-4pm. Call your airline, expect delays and general disruption.

All seems to be fine now... What with the earthquakes in Spain and now Mount Etna erupting in southern Italy, things arent getting easier for the tourist trade...

but as long as we can get out to Arillas, the coming back doesnt matter so much ;)

Will keep checking for updates but Easyjet have taken off any Greece warnings and have stated Corfu's flights are on schedule.

Great news, Sam, thank you!

This time last year it was the volcanic ash that was the problem....

Still, as you say,

It was also strikes last year too Janis. When my dad and I went in May 2010, we were delayed about 5 hours by strikes, and nearly on the way back. It worked in my favour later in the year - I was delayed in Arillas for a few days because of another strike.
Last year they seemed to choose Wednesday or Thursday for their strikes so if they do the same this year, most people should be lucky as the main UK flights are Monday and Friday.

Oh my goodness, Sandy, I'd forgotten about that... Well let's hope if they do strike again they do choose days when UK flights will not be affected.
Probably if you'd not be delayed last September/October we would not have met! So the strike worked for the right reasons that time!

Hope to meet you again sometime soon
