« on: August 13, 2011, 11:17:06 AM »

This new local bus service is on trial for 2 months from August 2011 joining up Agios Georgios, Arillas, Agios Stefanos and Sidari. Tickets are 1 price for 1 day (5 euros) no matter how far you go. It starts outside Costas Golden Beach Hotel and you MUST purchase your tickets BEFORE you get on the bus.
Tickets can be purchased at the hotel but should also be on sale at other establishments.
Prices are: 1 day .. 5 euros; 7-days ... 15 euros ; 14-days ... 25 euros

Unfortunately the bus service will not go into Afionas and the nearest it goes is the corner near the old olive press on the cross-roads of the roads from Agios Georgios, Afionas and Arillas. Although this is not on the timetable the driver will stop should anyone want to alight/board here. It is not a scheduled stop as such but the drivers are aware to stop there if any customers ask request it. Anyone wishing to walk to Afionas along the ridge road could do so from the corner, (approx 3 kms), so avoiding the steep hill direct fromAgios Georgios beach.

Thats great news. Do you know if it will take a buggy? Thinking of staying at christos in september, the thought of walking up the hill from arillas beach puts me off a bit.

Good morning , from what i have heard its one of the mid-sized buses you see driving about so i would assume it is big enough for a buggy , I'm sure if you ask nicely the driver will put the buggy in the back or underneath . I'm glad you have found this post helpful , pass the word !

Has the service already started? As I have a daughter with friends coming out to arillas next week. They would be able to get to Sidari in the day.

Not sure why this has been moved here as its not about transfers or taxis its about being able to get about for all those people that dont hire cars or bikes because they dont like the roads or dont even have a driving licence , surely this is still best suited in GENERAL info ..... I can only see this as a positive move for Arillas and the surrounding area , as brits we are creatures of habit , we will still support our friends in their bars and tavernas , and with the bus we can now get access to more money from the cashpoints in Sidari ...... this post wont be read in here . I know of three families who now stay in Sidari instead of Arillas.

pdkirk : as for it running in the evening maybe with a lot more thought and planning it will happen .... everybody needs to support this , we do our bit to aid the economy , lets hope the organisers do their bit to make the island more accessible to all.

I have to agree with Mike as i have said before this needs to be in general information not hidden away in taxi bus transfers where people are looking for transfers to and from the airport. It is after all a local bus!

Anyone would think Dimitris was a busy man ie: running an extremely popular taverna, sorting the website, managing his rooms/guests, managing the web cam, looking after his gorgeous family... I am sure when he finds a slot in his schedule he will be on it guys. give the man a break!

Not a good excuse Jo. Phil did ask on the 7th August.
He also managed to move it out of general information without a link this morning.

I cant understand what the problem is as the post is still in the Arillas general information section, Everything about Taxi transfers, bus and coach journeys etc,
I suppose it would look a trifle silly if Dimitris had put it in Currency cash and exchange ;-)
