(by the way does a sunhat disqualify me as a true naturist?)

To rehash an old subject.    Some great opinions expressed on this thread and, rightly so, evryone has their own valid point of view.
Some have mentioned bumping into people they know and saying that it would be a bit awkward for them - well, if you see them on the north beach, they are obviously of like mind and enjoy the freedom it gives.
We have seen families there, with no cares in the world. As has been said, it is other peoples` misconceptions that cast a cloud over this debate.
Wonder if there are any new converts out there willing to try North ( or South) beach??

Well now, I would certainly give it ago in order to dispense with unsightly tan lines and I would also love to try skinny dipping.  However my daughter would be horrified - she is at the sensitive preteen age and already believes I should dispense with a bikini and thoroughly cover myself in a shroud like garment from head to toe, lol.

You know what though, each to their own.  There are terrible things going on in this world; wars, murders, rapes, domestic violence, debt suicides, etc, etc.  What harm can a few people disrobing, at the far end of a beach, possibly be doing.  People should save their ire for the things that really matter!

That's it then - I'm convinced - I'll be down there soon, and the tartan check long johns will be off. Knee supports will be removed and although there is a danger of me falling over I will make a direct run (or slow wobbly walk) for the sea. - I'll re-emerge looking like Arnold Swartzeneger, Or Doris Day, and sunbathe on the beach with sand going to those places that will probably say:-
WOTSTHATALLABOUT?
But........ seriously.... Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. (It is always said that the nervous ones always joke about it)
But...I will keep my options open and as our pal Angela says. There are much more crucial things in life to worry about!! - Too right lass!
(I'm just a tad worried about how I look emerging from the sea)
Tis cold - DONCHYERKNOW?
Cheers

Don't be so modest eggy - we all know that when Daniel Craig did his first Bond film, Casino Royale, it was YOU they used as his stand-in to shoot the scene of him emerging from the sea. ;-) lol
And yeh - I'm with Angela on that point too!!

I would echo Jo's post above. If you told me a few years ago that I would be a naturist I would have not believed you. A number of years ago on our first visit to Arillas I wandered down (or is it up) to the North beach, got rid of me shorts, went for a swim and was hooked.

Not only is it the the swimming and the sunbathing but not having the soggy shorts clinging to you as you come out of the sea is a big plus. I have a little laugh to myself now thinking about times gone by when after swimming trying to change into dry shorts while holding a towel around myself. What a palaver!

As to etiquette that's probably down to the individual. I wouldn't strip off on the main beach which is backed by properties and used by families, that's why Arillas is ideal. Both North and South beaches are quite isolated so there's not much chance of upsetting anyone.

I've spent much of the last few days on the south beach which is great this year. Talking of which it's time I got back there. I've had my two hour lunch, a  half hour nap and the beach is calling again. For those not fortunate to be here at the moment attached (hopefully) is a photo of the south beach at 10:30 this morning.

Well Dai I say 'hear hear' to all you say.  Am looking forward to those lovely beaches again in a few weeks.  The south beach certainly looks to be in good condition.  Enjoy your holiday.

Now Sandy, don't go wishing it was August, some of us want to enjoy July first. lol!

The South beach is better than last year and easier to access, Still not too busy, I've been there mornings and late afternoons/evenings and not seen more than twenty people on it, which is by no means overcrowded.

Good to see the tavernas busy too, Efi's was full today lunchtime and so was Thalassa the other night. also Costas on the beach last night. Not an awful lot of people around for July but at least it seems those who are here are using the tavernas.

So come August Sandy I'm sure you'll enjoy the beach, but if you don't mind waiting the July people will enjoy it first.

The south beach is in wonderful nick this year, I walked it many times in June/July and it was surprisingly tidy too.

I can confirm, the South beach is more gorgeous than ever. You can't get into Vavilas, even with sharp elbows. And it is Tuesday, not the weekend. I think Thomas will lose weight this season. Arillas is its usual self. And I am loving it.

One of the problems that I would have with being a naturist is that I would worry about getting a little excited. I don't wish to be cruse or lower the tone but one of the finest sights in my oppinion is my wife naked. So if I was on a beach with her without clothes I would be scared of embarrassing myself. Also I wouldn't want to share the vision that is my wife's nakedness. I could probably do it by myself though.
