New age hippies.
« on: May 27, 2012, 11:48:12 PM »
Have any of you ever been on the nudist end of the beach when a group of around twenty middle age hippy types turn up and sit in a circle and get lectured by a some kind of guru for a few hours and then disperse to wherever?  I'm fairly sure they were not Greek.

It all seemed harmless when I witnessed it (on two occasions in different years) but I am curious who they are, what they came to learn and where they come from.

Well it wasn't the "old age" Arillas Hippies.... lol (regulars here will have already translated that to PhilnJen.)

Have often seen groups doing green mud, quasi-religious ceremonies etc. So the problem answering your query is "which one?" Yes, always harmless. Some laugh, but they aren't from Glastonbury like we are. Maybe Alexis Zorba? There is a festival of dance and movement run by Danielle Frankell at the end of June, but that is at top of hill, near Akrotiri. Sadly I won't be there in time for that one.

The whole point of Arillas is inclusiveness, tolerance and acceptance (within sensible boundaries of course.)

best wishes
Phil

They are usually German and come from Zorbas.....often there chanting, doing clay etc.....and taking over the whole beach....they tend to turn up at about 4.30.

Indeed.....I was also going to add, it's not our Phil and Jen!

I don't mind them really - I'm very easy-going, but the only thing that annoys me is the fact that they completely take over and dominate the place. I may have been there peacefully minding my own business for hours and they seem totally oblivious of the disturbance they cause when they suddenly turn up.

A bit like my neighbours this weekend. I live in a road full of student accommodation so we have loud music blaring most nights. Fortunately I'm rarely in bed before about 1am but it has been a bit much in all this hot weather. I couldn't sit in my garden yesterday because of their loud music.....so I beat them to it today. I had Beethoven's 9th on at full blast and didn't see a soul all day!! Yammas!

Jen just said it for me... "Goodonyer Gal!!!" Mine would have been Carl Orff - Carmina Burana...

Behind my rock at the far end I rarely get disturbed by anybody. But you are right that they can often destroy hours of carefully constructed peace and joy.

Thanks to Sandy for telling me where they come from but is it an organised affair, e.g. a week's course to find ones inner self or is it an impromptu gathering?  And who is the one that does the teaching.

Just being nosey really.
