FairFX has gone to 1.229, could it be 1.24 by Friday?

Ahh Bill, I hope Marion and yourself are well and it will be lovely to see you both again next week.

I get the rates from here  ....http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/holiday-money/#results

Here are some of the results

FairFX website is here - http://www.fairfx.com/wizard/start/post#a_id=moneysupermarket-offer&chan=moneysupermarket-cash

We are at the Horizon again and should be there by about 4.00pm on Monday. Helen will be really pleased to see you both again as well.

Terry i have looked at the Fairfx site before but was a bit wary of getting from them as never heard of them. Do you know if you have any charges to pay when ordering from there? I bought some Euros from Sainsbury online a few weeks ago and my bank charged me £4.50 for the pleasure!! Need to get more but the best rate i can find in the shops is 1.18 at the mo.

I know other forum members use FairFX and they are also FSA Authorised which gives you protection.

I have just checked to see how many Euros I would get for £1000 and here is the result

You are buying:   €1230.00   Euros as travel cash (bank notes)
at the FairFX Rate of £1 = €1.2289
Which costs:   £1000.90
(giving you an extra €104.09 to spend*)
Royal Mail Special Delivery:   Free
Total:   £1000.90   Pounds Sterling

You have to pay £6.00 delivery for amounts less than £750.00.
My bank "Smile" :-) doesn't charge but some Banks do.
I hope this helps

Terry,

How long does the special delivery take?
I presume it must be overnight, but thought I would check.
Checked the site thanks and confirmed your figures.

I've been using tesco last couple of years wih their credit card - they treat it as a goods purchase so you get club card points and the usual 50 odd days interest free

I've also used Tesco for the last few years. Free delivery for orders for £500 and if paid by a Tesco credit card no charges incurred just treated as a sale. The on line rate is slightly better than the in store rate. When we went away recently I did my cash order on line as usual but the also bought a pre paid card called Travelex Cash Passport. We used it in Majorca a few weeks ago and had no problems. It gives the cover of travellers cheques but you can withdraw money at Visa cashpoints without charges. I was very pleased but now having read the Martin Lewis article they weren't mentioned and I wonder if there are any drawbacks with them. I know that one could be they have to be topped in 12 months but top up is free so that doesn't seem a problem.
Anyone know about them.

Just changed £500 to €600 at Thomsons - rate was €1.20 to £1.00.  Strangely enough, on MSE - Money Saving Expert, (Martin Lewis' forum) - the rate was lower - €1.91 to £1.00!

My sister also got the same rate from Thomas Cook - that was actually less than advertised on the MSE website.

Definitely think it's worthwhile phoning your local travel agents to see what rate they will give you!  By the way - we live in a small town with only 3 travel agents so competition isn't that great!

Before we went to Rhodes a few weeks ago I used ICE, the rate then was 1.17euro to the pound, we got 1.22 from them with next day delivery so also got our money for Arillas at the same time.

I've just had a phone call from Thomas Cook and apparently I'm entitled to a preferential rate on Euros.  All I need to do is go into any Thomas Cook shop, show them my booking reference and get the higher rate.  Today it's £1.21 (obviously this can fluctuate).  Worth a mention to anyone else booked through Thomas Cook?
