Stick with the diet coke John, it helps to produce better photographs.

Well the tart was naked as a jay bird today lol.  We saw a similar mermaid on a painting yesterday in ages Georious.. Maybe that is where she but the idea from?
Women are like angels....   And when someone breaks our wings,
we simply continue to fly......usually on a broomstick.
We're flexible like that   ;-)

THE MERMAID OF ARILLAS

A statue has appeared in Arillas
Causing Steve and Carole to shout,
“There’s a mermaid on the seafront!
So WHATSTHATALLABOUT??”

They joked it was Neill’s first modelling gig.
He agreed that yes, he had posed
For Jean Walsh, the local artist but
The mermaid had too kind a nose.

Some thought she’d look better with a tan
Because she really was too white,
Or didn’t know her hands should be webbed
So thought they didn’t look right.

Dylan claimed to speak to the real one
Every year after ouzo clock,
It’s strange that only he can see her
But then who are we to mock?

A second mermaid appeared in the sand,
Resembling an Arillas fan as planned.
I don’t know who, please give me a clue
Or would that be really out of hand?

Neill got on well with the sand version
Until she left on the next tide,
He wonders if it was something he said
That made her want to go and hide.

Who covered the stone maiden’s assets?
Reported to have happened anon,
With a leopard skin bikini top,
Neill wondered where his had gone!

Eggy claimed that rumour had it,
The mermaid would stand and salute
If a sober person was to pass
After 1am – what a hoot!

“A mermaid who can stand,” said Val
“Would really be a sight to see.”
“So have you never been sober then
At one in the morning?” asked he.

John the Ref may see the miracle,
Surely enough to make him blink,
But maybe such a tremendous sight
Would lead him straight back to the drink!

So thanks to all my forum pals
For giving me a good laugh,
And thank you to our artist, Jean
Who’s much too clever by half.

Love to all,
lynn xx

Once again Lynn you have amazed me! The Mermaid of Arillas is brilliant.

Thank you for your wonderful poem, and....as Mo said you have captured the whole thread perfectly.

When are you going to publish all your wonderful poetry? You have a market for them already. :)

Thank you Lynn for another great poem
About the mermaid on Arillas sea front
You always get the words spot on
And make things very poignant.

But it made me sad to read these words
Because you have only read about it.
I just wish one thing, that very soon
you and Colin, will get to Arillas to touch it.

Even the Mermaid will have to "hand" it to you, for that.

Another rumour is that.... last night she saw Phil approaching  - Was preparing to stand and salute then thought.......... "Nah , not a chance!!!""

lovely poem, first time I have seen my Arillas name in a poem! other than the odd rude one!

Our Arillas patron saint, St Mythos, will be looking down from that brewery in the sky, to which we will have to go to eventually, will be raising a glass, sorry I mean a smile, at your prose!

Thank you so much, dear friends,

I just enjoy writing them, especially when you give me such good material :)

Val, I'm thinking of trying to get a publisher, I'm a bit dim on self-publication, I'm afraid, lol, but thanks for your continued support.

Terry, I never say never, I'm sure we'll get back to Arillas one day!

Thanks again to everyone who responded.

lynn xx

Mind you, no one answered this - who WAS the sand mermaid meant to resemble?
