Sadly, it seems to me the mermaid is in the wrong place.  No one overlooks the mermaid.
Wearing my old policeman's hat, from when I was responsible for Crime Prevention and designing out crime, I'd say she need siting near one of the tavernas so that late at night (when the vandals come out to play) there is someone keeping an eye out.
Thieves and vandals hate it if their activities can be observed by law abiding folk, so the answer is to put vulnerable things where they can be seen, especially when it is dark.

And that is why , Pat , you will always find my Punto parked outside a Taverna.

Clearly you are well versed in good practical crime prevention methods Eggy.  I should have had you in my team.  At least I'd always have known where to find you when I wanted you!

Pat

I agree completely with PJ, perhaps the Mermaid could be sighted inside the wall and gazing out to the sea at Sharon's Pool.

It is a very busy corner with traffic and pedestrians at night and anyone hanging around would soon be spotted.

It's such a shame that vandalism is rife everywhere.

great idea! I was thinking it should be away from pavement and road, or put the plinth on castors, so she can be moved back a bit later , would stop her swimming though!

Could put her on railroad tracks along the Sea Front!

Imaging her zooming to and fro past all the sea front Tavernas.

I think as Captain Mainwaring would say addressing young Pike "I think we are entering the realms of fantasy, boy"
