Your favourite 3 courses from 3 different tavernas?
« on: August 22, 2015, 11:34:32 AM »
(It was either Suzy or Sonia who said they had a desert at different taverna than their main meal, which got me to thinking)

The food in Arillas is a large part of my reasons that I stay there. This year, especially, I thought the food everywhere was of finest traditional quality. If you could have a different course at a different taverna, where would you choose? This was a difficult decision for me because each and every taverna is top notch and my choice could change 10 times in an hour!

Here goes before I change my mind ......

Greek Salad at Effies (love, love, love their olives) with a Corfu Beer and a bowl of ice.
Cheese stuffed chicken wrapped in bacon with roast potatoes at Vinceremos, with lots of their white wine.
Orange cake with kumquat ice cream at Brouklis with a coffee.

What would your choice be?

Changed my mind ......

Baked feta at the Bardis Studios - Poppy does hers on a bed of green peppers and tomatoes, it's delicious.
Stifado at Pergola in Afionas with their amazing red wine.
Strawberry and chocolate crepe with any of their cocktails at Ammos.

I have a favourite in ALL of them. Impossible to reduce it to only three! Quite often I arrive and they have already written down my choice before I order. This happens most at Armourada where I ALWAYS have Sofrito - the best recipe in the village!

Vavilas - Medley
Graziella - Taramasalata and Mezes
Brouklis - Bourdetto
Thalassa - Pepper Chicken
Efi's - Garlic Prawns
Portofino - Stamna
Vinceremo - Chicken Souvlakia
Mirage - Prawn Saganaki
Kostas on the Beach - Prawn Saganaki
Brouklis - Bourdetto
Marvel - Pork Chop
Rainbow - Enchillada (Mexican night)
Bardis Sun Studios - Soutzoukakia with rice
Night Owl - Chicken Souvlakia

Sorry cypress, I can't pick just three.....
Phil

Phil

There is a rumour that you have done all these in one day and still had room for a Mythos.

Yes Karen it was me who had main course at Effie's one night and dessert at Brouklis. We did think about one night having all 3 of our favourite courses at different restaurants but didn't get around to it. Maybe next year. My starter would be baked feta at vinceremos, any fish dish at vavilas and orange pie and cumquat icecream at Brouklis.

Karen this is really difficult so I will let Bill pick first....baked feta at Vavilas, spit roast lamb at Brouklis and as we don't eat dessert he chose another main which has to be sword fish with garlic roast potatoes at Graziella.

For me it's got to be fried courgettes at Graziella, sword fish with garlic roast potatoes at Graziella and my second main would be lamb chops at Brouklis. Can't really choose three different taverns because these are my favourites, but I could make this list fill a whole page, ha ha.

All of which has to accompanied by copious amounts of white wine followed by ouzo and ice.

We now also want to include the full breakfast at Mathraki , why not it's only fair to start the day as you mean to on... after all we are on holiday😃

Ha Ha Neill - these are only my favourites. Including Mythos.  A second visit to any of the tavernas will see me trying something completely new. In our usual 3 weeks in July I get to add about a week's worth of trials, and I reckon I'll be 90 before I can try everywhere and everything. Long may it last!

As for all at once.... like your uvver-arf, I do quality, not quantity. But notoriously have hollow legs where Mythos is concerned!

Sorry to hijack, cypress.
Phil

It's not hijacking Phil, I much prefer a conversation/post to naturally flow than be rigid to its title :-)

There's some excellent menus here ..... please keep them coming, they give me ideas for next time.

You've reminded me (how did I forget, we talked about them for days?!) that I had the Garlic Prawns at Effies in July this year, they were honestly outstanding.

Couldn't put the monk fish as favourite for this year John, although it is one of my VERY favourites. It was so hot when we were there that we only walked up to see Thomas and family once but visited our other favourites a few times over the two weeks.

Just keeping my fingers crossed that Vavillas will still be open in October when we return.
