The Arillas Effect
« on: July 17, 2016, 12:24:33 PM »
Just returned home after a brilliant two weeks in Arillas. Having not been for eight years i was a little concerned that it may have changed beyond recognition with new builds everywhere, gone all commercialised etc and lost it's charm. Not a bit, o.k there are a few new apartments and a few of the tavernas closed and new ones opened but pretty much just as we remembered it.
I thought this year might be a bit of a challenge as we bought along my mother in law who is 75 along with our son aged 8 and two daughters aged 14 and 18. I imagined it being a nightmare trying to keep everyone entertained and happy with such a varied age group, but it was a breeze. By the second day everyone was chilled out and the Arillas effect had taken over ( how does it do that?) . We had lots of fabulous meals at many of the tavernas and lots of lazy days on the beach.
What really surprised me was the number of local people that remembered us, even from eight years ago, they really are the most genuinely friendly people you could wish to meet. Speaking of genuinely friendly people we had the pleasure of meeting Phil and Jen, Eggy and the Bardis family of Bardis sun apartments, and it was an absolute pleasure to share our love of Arillas with them.
Needless to say that Arillas has won us all over again and we have already booked the accommodation for next year, just need to wait for the flights to come out.
So it's a big thank you to the people of Arillas for making sure we had another unforgettable holiday and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Andy and claire.

Hi.  Arillas always works her magic, doesn`t she?     Been back nearly a week and seriously missing the place but more importantly, the people.  Loved the baking hot conditions and lazy hours spent on the beach. This year we didn`t leave the village at all (Heather`s hospital stay had something to do with that)
Made loads of new friends and enjoyed old friends` company.
  Pleased you enjoyed  :-)

We sort of knew that would happen Andy and Claire so glad you enjoyed it. Were you staying at bardis studios?

Andy and Claire, we were a tiny little part of your time, but so glad you enjoyed seeing us. Your title of Arillas Effect (I use the words "Arillas Magic") says it all. The Arillas Effect is felt by all of us. Like lemmings we keep coming back until we fall off the cliff. Jen and me are working on it, but the cliff seems even further away for us. We have made a study of what makes us all come back, and I have followed all of the opinions the many folk who have expressed them  to me. Boringly, I have not made a spreadsheet or a graph out of it.

It is the people and the welcome which make up the Arillas Effect. The Greek people, not the "bladdy tourists." They cement friendships that might be a bit wobbly and bring others together who as "bladdy tourists" would never even speak to each other. Some will cynically say it is all about making money, the smiles are false and the welcome is not real. But they are wrong.

I believe that Poppy Bardis embodies the Arillas Effect. Her business is secondary to her hard work and desire to make people be together and be happy. She looks after all the local tavernas by filling her complex with customers. But having spent the evening with her, I fully understand why her clients book time and time again. Bobby confirmed that is now 6 times since we have stayed for 3 weeks in July. But this story could be rewritten  by others who see the same in Anna studios, Armourada, Brouklis, Mirage, Marvel.....

I could go on but I think I have had my 10 cents worth. Whatever the f*** the effect is, long may it continue.
Phil

You made a huge and positive impression on the Bardis family Sonia. They speak of you with unbridled affection. That is the other side of the Arillas Effect. What we give back to them. We were so glad to meet you again too.

Hi Jo, now we stayed at the Mirage which was lovely. The pool area gets quite busy during the day but that doesn't bother us as we like to go on the beach . We called in at Bardis sun a couple of lunchtimes for a cool down (Mythos or two) and were bowled over by the friendliness off Poppy, Bobby and George, so much so that we've booked with them for next year. You should be in Arillas about now Jo so I hope you and your family have a great holiday.

Andy.

Yes Sonia, we were a table of six , myself, Claire, our two daughters, our son and my mother in law, i can't remember which night it was but i think you were sat to the left of the left door at Thomas's and we were in front of you but over the other side opposite the kitchen door. Hope that makes sense.

I think I know which group you were.but I noticed your group twice. Just remembered I think it was Brouklis. On Sunday 3July. Were you on a table down the side under the vines? We were with our daughter who has blonde hair.

Yes, we were all in the same restaurants two nights in a row as it was then on the Monday that we were in Thomas's. I saw your family walk in to Brouklis and then thought when I noticed your family in Thomas that it was funny being in the same restaurant as each other two nights. In a row. We obviously all like the same places. Lol

We all obviously like great food, had some amazing meals this year at some tavernas we have never visited before. Thomas's, Effis and Dionysos in Afionas were three that we had never tried before and they were all fantastic.
