Awful time at Corfu Airport.
« on: September 02, 2016, 06:13:39 PM »
After a really wonderful holiday again ( this time at Bardis Hotel.......bliss!) we were really chilled and relaxed. We took taxi to airport,at least two hours before our Easy jet flight to Paris, (cheaper flights from there and that's including the eurostar price) ........but the place was in absolute chaos ,there were 4 flights trying to be processed on one desk, then you have to queue to put the bag through, then another queue for passport control. The security was not good, people rushing through as the flights were closing! The staff were not able to cope, we took 2 hours to get through,we had to run to catch plane which had lots of empty seats( did this mean people just didn't get through?)          We made another booking with Bardis Hotel for next year but we are really concerned about this situation. We will not put hold luggage on which may help, but means we can not bring our olive oil ,wine and Xmas Mythos home! Has anyone else had these problems?

Yes.  Every year apart from this year as we flew on Sunday. It was bliss. Time to shop in duty free for once. Fridays and Mondays are the worse as change over day for Thomson's. Departures is such a shock the first time after arrivals where you barely have to flash your passport.

Corfu airport on Mondays and Fridays is utter madness. We've done it twice this year -  an 11:30am departure in July with Thomas Cook and 2pm departure on Monday with Jet2. Both times we got to the airport 3 hours ahead of departure and checked in without any hassle. There were queues on Monday to get through the suitcase drop off, security and passport control and it was much much busier - out of preference I would ifly out as early as possible,  or fly on another day and allow adequate time - without a private jet there will always be a 300 odd people checking in to the same flight, not to mention those getting on the 15 odd other flights. Just something we have to put up with to holiday in a lovely place!

We have flown on most days of the week and as you say mondays and fridays are terrible , but we flew with  BA in june on a thursday and it was lovely , no waiting about lots of seats in the departure lounge (bliss) . But we are flying back out on the 16th so know what to expect . But its worth it because we are all coming to this lovely island

Well I have got to say our Monday flight to Corfu this year went like a dream with easyjet, I cannot praise this budget airline enough. Never ever had so much as a 10 minute delay either side. We flew back on a Wednesday and yet again seamless. Perhaps we were just lucky?

We have never had any trouble with easyjet Jo , we even got a refund one year no hassle what so ever . I think it all depends on what time your flight are on mondays or fridays and giving yourself enough time to get through check in and security .  Only 12 days and we will be back in Lovely corfu

Reading on another site that from 2017 they are imposing a departure tax to part fund improvements at all the Greek airports. I am sure that in the short term this will cause more chaos but .........
For now it seems that if you can avoid Monday and Friday flights you stand a decent chance of a relaxing departure. This time we are travelling on a Sunday with TC so we will see Role on October 2nd well ready now Yammas
