As I reported earlier, the 2016 Festival was a masterpiece of organisation and pleasurable experience. My few hours there overcame my being alone and the band who played traditional Irish songs had more than my feet tapping. The beer was superb (locally brewed Red) and within the context of my week in Arillas a real highlight. I only went up once on the free bus, but as a regular in Arillas, I also spent many hours in the Nut communing with all and sundry. For a newcomer, the festival could have provided 5 days of pleasure.
The earlier date next year will see many more tourists attending and they will have lots of fun and entertainment. PhilnJen will probably be there, but until her legs are mended and she has recovered, nobody knows. For the first time in many years we do not have a trip home booked for next year.
My real sadness though, is how it once again shrinks the Arillas year. Having a huge event in late October keeps it viable for the businesses. It will all have to close earlier next year. October - or even early November - is the most beautiful time in Arillas. Jen and I have had our happiest times then.
