I don't see us coming out of Europe Jo and I would think if we don't the pound should strengthen after June.
There again what do I know !  :-)

I hope we don't come out of Europe and I think the vote will be close, but I am pinning my hopes that we stay in and the £ will shoot up again against the €.

Its gone up over the last few days. It just shows how unpredictable it is.

It could be a lot worse than 1.26 - 1.27

There are far more important issues than the exchange rate relative to holiday cots, to consider whether you are an ''inner'' or ''outer''.
The Greek people would love to leave the EU.

Sorry
Forgot to say there are many factors worldwide that reflect in the strength/weakness  of the pound, many of them outside Europe, and nothing to do with our forth coming referendum

There is , agreed , but as this thread was about the exchange rate I was looking at it purely with that in mind.

Most Greeks probably would but they would still have to pay back what they owe ......

Thanks Terry. My husband enjoyed a couple of Zots and did thoroughly enjoy them. I drank beer also for the first time and loved it.  I had a cherry one and a raspberry one and loved the beer wall and the pub there and Suzy, I also has to visit a few chocolate shops. It was hard but managed it. Lol. Had a hot chocolate from one which was made with real chocolate.  Sorry I have well and truly hijacked this thread. Back to the important issue of Euros.

Glad you had a great time in Bruges, Sonia. Now back to the important issue of Euros....the rate seems to be getting slowly better so maybe we will get between 1.30 to 1.35? Fingers crossed.

Now back to to Bruges :-). Did you go to the cathedral, Sonia? I thought it was amazing  but I always think of this clip from the Bruges movie - so funny but some bad language :-(

Yes spent up Val plus Euros we already had left from last year.

Terry - yes got to the cathedral and there was a wedding on. Amazing building. Cost me 50 cents for the loo there though . I loved the beer wall. Had gorgeous mussels in a place called moules poules. Not the cheapest or more obvious of places to eat but I researched and found details of it before we went and definitely would recommend it.

Hi all, can anyone tell us what the exchange rate is in Arillas at the moment? I'm undecided whether to buy euros over here (1.24 at the moment) or to bring sterling and change it over there. Any replies appreciated.

Title: Re: Decision time?

It's getting a bit better..... €1.2750

Sterling rallies to hit new highs

Sterling has reached its strongest levels against the Euro since March.

Recent Brexit polls suggesting the UK will remain in the EU have bolstered the Pound, which again shows the currency’s sensitivity to any Brexit related news – with 'Remain' boosting Sterling and 'Leave' doing the opposite.

Pound strength is not just confined to the Euro, with gains seen against the US Dollar, as well as most currencies including the Australian Dollar, Swiss Franc and South African Rand.

With another bank holiday to look forward to we're happy help you make the most of the stronger Pound and offer €1.2750 & $1.4315 to £1 on our FairFX Currency Cards, Travel Cash and FairPay.

If you think we are going to REMAIN don't get them but if you think we are going to opt out DO get them .......
I really think we will remain as many of the people who now say they want out will bottle it when it actually comes to putting the cross on the paper.

Hi
As a confirmed ''outer'' I have to say that irrespective of recent polls, that pound rallied to a recent high irrespective of any referendum polls.
The recent strength of the pound, the best since early February, can be attributed to record job figures and higher retail spending of 4.3% last month than a year earlier.

Good point Turkey.
I still believe that the fact that REMAIN look to be gaining strength will have influenced it a little.....
Title: Re: Decision time?

I think that the forthcoming referendum will still have the greatest effect on the exchange rate despite any output, employment or other figures from either the U.K or Europe.Todays decision in Brussels on the next tranche  of the Greek bailout payment could also have some effect.      On 24th June we will all have the benefit oh hindsight.      Ron.

I'm really struggling with this, I was very much intending to vote remain but the closer we get to the vote I'm less sure.  I'd be interested to hear the views of someone from outside of the UK as to what they think of our referendum. As the Clash so eloquently put it "Darling you've got to let me know, should I stay or should I go?"

I think what we really have to remember with this important vote is that it's our decision NOT the decision of any of the political parties.

The fact that the present government seem to have taken over the campaign for In or Out is irrelevant. This is vote for the people of the UK so please think carefully about what it could mean if we come out of the European Union. I am not a political person but do think we should not waste our vote on this important decision.

The amount of information given out by government departments (all in favour of remaining in)will cease on Friday when the referendum enters the period of Purdah.During the 4 weeks preceding the referendum it is forbidden for any government department to publish any figures relating to the vote. This may clear the air and possibly level the playing field.

I have took the plunge and ordered at 1.17 as I can't see the rate going much higher within the next week. It would be nice to see it up to around 1.30 for next summer - wishful thinking?

Well , Terry ,

I see an exchange of e1.28 in Sidari today , so can only assume Arillas is the same.
What is your opinion of the "EU Vote"??

Do you think an "Opt Out" will cause the exchange to drop plus cause all manor of problems relating to UK immigration etc.

An "Opt Out" could see many ex-pats back in the UK as they(we) could then fall into the double tax trap plus a drop in the exchange.

Always good to know other people's views.

At least it's got us all Talking about politics which is the way it should be seeing as we are the ones who are voting. I think the result will be much closer than

I nearly bought last week at 1.28. But I too, am waiting for an IN win and hopefully get around 1.35. An IN vote will also help Arillas because we can spend more money there :-)

Yes the Euro is fluctuating a little but we go to Arillas before the referendum, so we have to bite the bullet and purchase a few hundred more. Luckily I bought some when the Euro was 1.42 and have had them for a while. Only a week to go and we will be there............

I got €130 to the £ a couple of weeks ago. I've held some back which I could spend if I need to. The opinion poles were showing the Brexit vote in the lead so I lost my nerve and bought my euros.

I'm a definite "in" voter but all the opinion poles seem to be suggesting the out campaign are winning. Mind you if opinion poles were accurate we'd have Ed Milliband as prime minister now. I've noticed that the exchange rate has dropped quite a bit today it's only €123 to the pound now.

The good news , for Negg/Wegg , is we transferred some "living Money" the day before the vote. We got e390 more than if we had waited.

The bad news , in my opinion, is the Vote to leave is the UK's biggest mistake since Dunkirk
