Title: Arillas 2009
Post by: riggers on April 19, 2008, 02:22:10 PM
I've just been on the thomson website to price up the Kaloudis for June 2009.

It is  £638 for 2 adults for 2 weeks.
What did i do?. You guessed, put down a deposit. Poor credit card.....
Couldn't resist at that price.

I had a leaflet through from Thomson advertising for 2009. Also had a look and very good price for Arillas next June flying from Norwich but my boss wont allow to book that far in advance.

i dont think they have all the flights on line yet as they cannot do our normal dates so will have to wait a while until they release them. Riggers at least you have your next holiday to look forward to. Annie

How strange I've just put a question under Kaloudis asking why holiday has doubled in price for next year. You're lucky you booked yours when you did if you look again at the current price I bet you'll have a shock! I just hope they'll come back down in price as I also love Kaloudis and want my 7th visit to be next year.

Hey, riggers-talk about being `on the ball.` Just looking at Skytours Brochure for Kaloudis Studio in June 2009- price on 10 June is 355 per person, with early booking discount of up to £100 off. Will have to book this place as it looks great.

I think we should start Lying and say that Arillas is a terrible place inhabited by one goatherd and a pair of donkeys, maybe then other people will be put off, demand will fall, prices will drop and we can all have loads of cheap holidays to Arillas every year!!!! Who's in?

I think you are spot on Graham, they must know it is getting very popular. After my June holiday next year "already booked" , it looks like independant. Thomson are certainly sussing us out.

Sounds a bit like the cereal psychology... you wont like it!

So from now on.... its a terrible place, full of mosquitos, you will hate the beach, too many hills for walking, no bars, restaurants are awful, accomodation rubbish...  as if!  We dont want it to get too popular do we? ;-)

Websites like this (good as it is) can sometimes be a double-edged sword.  If the tour operators read them they realise that there are many people who like to return year after year and so they put their prices up knowing that in a lot of cases, the customer will pay up just to get to their favourite resort, and this is even before you apply the effect of increased fuel costs.

This year will be our 3rd visit and there is definitely more people watching and using this site than there were 3 years ago.  105 people watching at the moment!

The only way to stop tour operators ripping us off,is if we hit them where it hurts,in their pockets. Stop booking with them and do more direct accomodation bookings. Arillas may become a victim of this forums success, but tht can`t be helped More people in the village means better incomes for the locals. It`s basically a `catch 22`.

For the last 2 years we booked independently and it actually cost us more than if we had booked with Thomson. We booked for next July a few weeks ago and the very next day it went up by £400!

I guess you take your chances, but for 2 weeks next July at the Kaloudis for 3 of us, we have paid £1400. I think that is pretty good.

As said before,
We have booked Kokinos for October 2009 at a reasonable price.  We recieved confirmation of booking for that but not for the booking for 2008.  Olympic are having a laugh, said that they would send out the final invoice within 2 weeks this has been going on for more than a month.  Just want to get it sorted.  We have also been looking to take the kids back.  Since the first year we visited we have always said we would take them.  The eldest has two youngsters and a partner, the youngest only wants to go for one week with her partner.  We have looked at many options but all come out just too expensive for June 2009.

In total we are looking for 4 adults plus two youngsters for 2 weeks one couple for 1 week if anyone has any ideas or reccomendations it would be appreciated. Just want them to know what Arillas is all about!

Regards to all.......the photos are excellant, and despite the robery the place still sounds all good.

Looking forward to trying the new bar that was Marias......... all good

All I can suggest is that you try to book it two months in advance of going- not good for your party if that fails.- So really cannot see how you might get it at better price than currently offered- for peace of mind

When we went on the Thomas Cook site June July time they were advertising Arillas from Exeter, but then when you clicked through Nothing was available we would have booked the Mirage. We ever phone TC and was told that nothing was available from Exeter,so we booked our flight with Thompsons and have booked in the Bardis with Viv and Pete.Low and behold Thomas Cook are now able to do bookings for Holidays from Exeter,WHY wait till now we in the WEST COUNTRY DO NOT WANT A MINIMUM OF A 70 MILE DRIVE and people  from Cornwall as much as 200+ upto Bristol.Thomas Cook missed out on our booking for next year and i would have used them they did ok by us in the end this year,i bet they have missed out on quite a few bookings from Devon and Cornwall with their delaying tactics.

Just an observation. Although much of the accommodation was occupied in July/September, the social venues (with a couple of notable exceptions like Brouklis and Rainbow) were struggling. Local businesses get a poor rate from the tour operators compared to independent, and we know of two success stories where the owners went independent this year and had very high occupancy and a good return.

Whilst the Tour Operators may hike up prices as a result of this website, it will be their loss as people decide they can't afford to go, like some of the examples on this thread. There will always be demand for the packages - Dimitris' survey showed about half and half but helping each other to find viable cheaper alternatives that support the locals is one aspect of this forum we should use to the full.

We were told by one independent owner that the website had very little effect on their bookings. It was returners who filled their rooms this year, so that is where their efforts will go next year.

All I am hoping is that we don't have more Calypso and Whispers next year - we all need the businesses there to thrive if we want our place to stay attractive and viable. I am with Paul.d on this - don't let the Tour Operators rip us off.
