Title: NUDE Beach
Post by: smilingtoday on April 25, 2010, 03:14:05 PM
How far from main beach is the naturist area?

Are there other areas for all over tan in or near Arillas?

Also which bars serve the coolest Mythos?

In the past few years i've noticed people 'airing' their credentials at either end of the beach so its up to you how far from the main beach you go , and as for the Mythos i'd say all the bars keep their beers at the same temperature , although the bottled beers will always depend on how long ago they stocked their fridges.... hope this helps

Hi smilingtoday. Welcome to our community. The naturist beach is largely regarded as the north end, past the little rock outcrop. It is not officially recognised but has been used for many years. It is a bit of a walk from the steps outside Kaloudis, but not far. Many use the quiet parts of the south end (turn left from Graziella steps.)  Both are a flat walk on the sand, but last year it was a bit more difficult to get there. There are many lovely posts in the beach board - just hit Home on the forum and head for the Beach item. Our viv's Nudee Beach Bum thread is worth reading. As you might guess, Jen and I use it a lot....

As for Mythos, if experience counts for anything, I am an expert. I have never had a warm one. The tavernas who do draught always freeze the glass, and the owners who don't will not serve one that hasn't been chilled long enough. I am being honest here. I have drunk Mythos in just about everywhere in Arillas and never been disappointed.

From reading your post, I feel sure you are destined to become another Arillas Addict. Your list will be delivered in bucketloads...

Agree with everything that Phil says about the beach & Mythos.  Just to add though you shouldn't miss out on trying the local Arillas brew - Royal Ionian.  In a cool glass on a hot day it really finds the mark as you can see from the pic below:-

Patrick mate, like everyone knows, I still prefer Mythos. RI is lovely, but like my Stella, Mythos ticks all my boxes. Anna (studios) has one ready for me whenever I get to Arillas. And Amstels for Jen....

Thank you Pat - I enjoyed your photos. Unfortunately we weren't at Kaloudis in 2008 because that was the year that our youngest daughter, Charlotte, got married.  We were there in 2007 and 2009 and will be again in about two and a half weeks!! Can't wait....
Then Horizon in Sept/Oct...

Anyway, thanks for the link and sorry for rambling

Hi Janis & forum fans
You must be really looking forward to two breaks in Arillas this year.  Julia & I will only manage one (September 13th for two weeks at the Kaloudis).
However we are off to Kos in May and will be enjoying the delights of Tingaki.

Am pleased the link found the photos for you - still don't know why they can't be seen on this forum.

Best wishes

Does anyone know if it is still possible to wade to the North end?
Title: Re: NUDE Beach
Post by: justphil on August 08, 2010, 07:44:03 PM
Jo, it certainly was while we were there. I did one day with one wade, and another with about six, but none up to my knees. And a great expanse of sand available both times, though I went behind my rock at the far end, like I usually do on my own. Only managed two in two weeks, was so busy socialising.

Well I know from what my mum tells me that there is just pebbles at the bottom of the steps (my steps!) but how hard it is to get to the nudee bit is still a mystery as my mum would have lynched my dad if he dared to venture on a 'fact-finding- mission for me!! (Or at least thats what he would have called it :-0)

the beach is accessible, best to walk a bit up the hill to san stef then scramble down a little path(less wading to do) and there is quite a bit of sand up there.
Also spotted a few nudists on the south side, where there is quite a lot of sand this year. It's also easier to get to. Only returned home on Tuesday am, wish I was still there. x

Hi Ruth - thanks for that info.  Quite a relief to know that there is still accessible beach to the north.
Last year we had to go to the south beach ourselves as the north one was just not accessible on several days.
As always all good things come to an end but expect you've some happy memories to look back on.

Just returned from our first visit to Arillas and spent our days on the naturist beaches north and south of the main beach.
We found several places with  well defined ''steps'' from  the footpath leading to  the  north beach, when it was a little more than a wade around the rocks due to high tides and winds.
My only  disappointment was how untidy it was. Discarded wine, water bottles, and  food wrappings laying around, together with  beach mats, brollies and lilos in various stages of disrepair.
It seems common practise for many to take their beach furniture with them on the first day, leave it there, tucked away, to claim next day, and on their last day just abandone it all.
Another concern is that whilst we were there, three large landslides occurred overnight falling to where  during the day people had been sunbathing. These people  most certainly would have had been killed it the slides happened  during the day

Hi Mary

Remember me I listened to your tales of how you met your
your new family. you went to Agios Georgios and it started raining and
a nice gentleman brought you back. I was on the top floor at the Mathraki.
Hope you had a good week after I returned

Greetings all - returned from Arillas last night - flight (Thomsonfly) was 45 minutes early landing at Robin Hood Airport.
We made several visits to beaches North & South.  South was most accessible but a good long walk.  Amount of sand varied but was sufficient for sunbathing.
North beach was difficult to access on most occasions although one day the 'last wade' was almost dry.  Plenty of sand to the North.  However on Saturday 25th September it rained torrentially all day and the sea became very rough.  The whole beach seemed to disappear.  However on Sunday as the waves calmed more beach became visible.
I suppose the conclusion to draw is that the waves and wind will do their will and we shall have just as much beach as they combine to provide.
Best wishes
Pat (and Julia)

The north beach this year was amazing. Hardly any wading at all and the addition of Sunbeds!! Talk about luxury! I would say that despite the vast expanse of sand there didn't seem as many bodies on it as last year but we mainly tended to go first thing in the morning and 4-ish in afternoon so maybe we missed the peak times.

Very beautiful early mornings. Utter peace with very few others. I met our Jo on the way back one day, you were just outside Marinaki meluvver, it was all of 10 o'clock. Maybe earlier. The North was spectacular in 2014, probably as good as 2008. And like Jo, I think fewer takers at the peak times (I was there for a while at various times of day in July.) Wish I could have reported all year long....

Really will have to try the north beach next year.A male friend has offered to go with me and as much as I adore him, I go to Arillas mostly to appreciate the beauty of the place in solitude The only thing is - and I'm not normally such a wuss, I do lots on my own - is that I do wonder if it's generally safe for a woman to go there solo?

Is it better to be there when it's busier? Are there other women on their own that go? Are there some rocks to hide behind?!

Had hoped to see Sandy answer this Karen. Our Sandy has blazed a naturist trail for single women. Orange tablecloths, friends, even justphil, she is the solo who truly rocks. She is an Arillas original, a woman with attitude, a bit like you. As you can guess, Jen and me adore her.

Just go with the flow dearest, meluvver. Nobody will care, or even notice.

See you in July xx

Such kind and lovely people on this forum! Not that I 'do' any another forum or such thing.

Orange tablecloths?? What do you mean Phil? The mind boggles :-) See you both in July xx

Sandy, thank you so much. I'm there from the 6th or 13th July and home on the 3rd August, will you be there then?  It'd be good to have another woman around to show me the protocol . I dpn't even know at which point it's expected that I would remove my clothing, or put it back on again. Is it after the wading bit I've read about?

I'm in Arillas on and off all summer Cypress. I will be back in the UK between the 8 and 19 July, so guess we will be able to meet up at some point outside of those dates. I'll give you my mobile number, but you will always find me swimming/having coffee at the Rainbow from about 9 to 10.30am.

About the tablecloths.....years ago, my friend and I went skinny dipping on our last night in Arillas (it became our tradition!). We had forgotten to bring any towels, so the waiter in the Akropolis (now the pizzeria) lent us some orange tablecloths! They were duly used, and we left them outside the taverna for him on our way back to the Rainbow. I hope they were washed before he put them back on the tables that evening!!

Neither my wife or I were sure we'd like the nude beach,  but spent all our time there, right down at the end, this year. Loved it. Only downside was one lad who was taking photo's, supposidly of the rocks, yeah right! & a bunch of Italians who moored up their speedboat & set up the largest marquee I've seen this side of Reading festival. I don't think they realised it was a nudist beach until they were already set up >)

Jeffers, I absolutely agree. As an Arillas North Beach Virgin myself until the 7th of July 2015 (never will I forget the date), I too dream of being in the sea there again. I spent so many ridiculously happy and contented hours on that beach. Floating in the clean, clear, blue and calm sea, I felt as if I was floating on air.

I also walked down to the nude beach for the first time this year and stripped off and had a swim.... in the nude!!! Sooo liberating and exhilarating!!!

It wasn't intentional, it was actually after our first night in Arillas. I woke about 6.30am and couldn't get back to sleep. I had a coffee on the balcony then decided to go for a walk on the beach. The hubby was still in dreamland so I decided to go alone. The beach was beautiful on this particular morning and from Kaloudis end of the beach I walked from one end to the other with only a bit of wading near Gratsela taverna. I did this a couple of times and then decided to walk down to the North end of the beach, again without any wading.
There were only a couple of people on the beach doing yoga and about 3 people were swimming.
On the spur of the moment I stripped off and calmly walked into the sea...naked. I didn't feel the slightest bit nervous it just seemed the most natural thing in the world....I was in heaven!
It made me feel extremely emotional and I actually cried... (this happened a few times in Arillas this year for some strange reason?)
Words can't really  describe how I felt at this precise moment....I just wish my husband had been there to share it with me.
He still hasn't shared this wonderful experience with me but has absolutely no problem with me swimming naked. I didn't go every morning (although I fully recommend it for hang overs!) However on the mornings that I did it, that feeling got better and better!
We always used Dimitris's sunbeds on the beach (just to the right below the cliffs) but I didn't venture off for any nude swimming (even though my husband would not have minded) but this was our time together on the beach. He's no prude and neither of us have ever had anything against people sunbathing or swimming nude, it was just never for us.
As I previously said, it wasn't a planned thing for me to do but I'm so glad that I did and hopefully one day my husband will join me.
This year in Arillas has been a very strange and emotional one...but I wouldn't change a thing!...OMG!...I'm bloody crying again...must be my age!

'tis a very special experience Suzy. Like jeffers, I feel wrong on my own - worried about others' attitudes I suppose. Jen and I used to spend many hours together at "the North End."  These days it takes two of us to get her out of the pool at Bardis! George always helps me....

But we signed up for better, for worse, in  sickness and in health, 'till death us do part.... and our Arillas experience is different now. But just as special.

It didn't feel wrong for me phil, although I would have loved my husband to have shared it with me. However, for some reason I also enjoyed the tranquillity of being alone. I also love the fact that nobody really knows me in Arillas therefore It's easier to be less bothered about other peoples opinions(not that we should anyway...but we do!)

May we all continue to experience these special times during our visits to Arillas....until next time...?

When I actually did it no-one gave me a second look, no-one was interested in anyone else. Everyone was enjoying the sensation of being free of inhibition. So I joined in and it was fab! When you're good and ready give it a go .... I think, like me, you'll wonder why you'd never done it before.

Suzy   what a lovely story it is very emotional doing it for the first time . It's like a release of emotion when you get in the sea as nature intended .
Ness.   pluck up the courage and try it I was like you thought I would never be able to do it . But it's wonderful no one looks at you . we are all the same mabe in different shapes and sizes but  all beautiful your only live once

Booked this place due to the proximity to the nude beach hope it is as good as reviews.

A very amusing response, Terry, which made me smile , much more than once, thinking about it. But with a serious note in it as, these Arillas Seagulls are a force to be reckoned with.!! (Rumour has it that there is a pawnshop , in Corfu Town, where they take all these little valuables to exchange for chips)

And....Diesel 2012 , I have no idea why that one legged Pirate, from Treasure Island , sprang into my mind.

Anyway.... as the only piercings I have are from those darts, which bounce back at me from the dartboard. I have been known to say that I am as
"Pierced as a flute" - or is "****** as a Newt?" All depends on Ouzo intake.
Anyway , with a serious response to answer your enquiry,  I would say that any users of the naturist beach would not notice any amendments to any one's body as they are doing their own thing, just as you will do yours. - Enjoy with out worries.

And if concerned about Seagulls, have a bag of chips lying by your side. They will I am sure go for the easy option.

Be well

Not accessible two weeks ago but the beach can change quickly,
although the sea was quite rough and we did have several days where the beach was changing constantly
there was plenty of sand just waiting to be picked up by the waves and deposited there.

Hi just back from a wonderful week in Arillas, the north beach evolved over the week we was there, no beach only stones for a couple days but by the end of the week enough beach for a sunbed.
Had a few mud baths and the weather was great.
It was very civilised we borrowed the sunbeds and took them back at the end of the day no charge.
All naturist with a mixture of singles and couples, was not able to wade around the coves as the tide too strong but the steps down to the beach are in good condition.
Love seeing the fireflies again and walking through orange and lemon groves.

Hi
Do you mean the steps that lead down from the cliff top path down to the ''back of the beach''?
Is the bed man, with his wife on the beach yet?
Thanks

Yes the steps down to beach which have been dug out of the clay cliff. the bed man visited every day to survey the state of the beach but didn't charge for the sunbeds.
Not much beach but still had a fabulous time, the beach has changed so much in the last 2 years we couldn't recognise it at first.

Just returned from a 2 week stay in San Stef, Brilliant weather and people,in keeping with our custom when not resident in Arrilas we give equal leisure time to its tavernas and restaurants visiting our favourite haunts including the north beach, shock horror at the pathetic bit of beach which greeted us,it is apparent that the north end has been in retreat over the last 5 or 6 years, which brings me to my point, a certain waiter regaled me of the great efforts made by Arrilas Officials to remove naturally positioned boulders/ large stones from the beach in order to improve the shifting sands,I am informed that this decision had the adverse effect which if correct is in evidence today, could the same catalyst have effected the south beach?

We in the main travel mid-July and have never yet not had enough beach on the North end Infact last year it was wonderful despite the main beach being a little narrower. All I can say is that this time last year the beach was nowhere near as wide as previous years yet had recovered for July. Nature is what it is and looking at the 'main' beach this year it would seem that the rock placements have been an amazing success.

If the worst scenario occurs and the beach is poor, then I recommend the far end of SanStefanos beach,we spent Six days there plenty of room, some familiar faces from the Arrilas north beach were also there.

We're just back from our stay. The beach was just about doable by wading round, but you need to be careful. We used the steps the last couple of days & they were ok so long as you're vaguely fit. There wasn't really much sand available, however we used one of the Love Shacks that someone had built. Very quiet once you got beyond the sun beds. Usually two or three couples & four or five singles.

Hi
Hopefully the beach will be there and easily accessible in September and its good to know the access from the cliff top is ok.
Is the far South  end of the beach still ok for naturists just in case?
Just returned from sunny Skiathos. Banana beach is still very popular.

Just to have my half-pennyworth... I totally enjoyed the South beach this July, and only ventured North once. The naturists were sometimes a bit near to Graziella for everyone's wishes (didn't bother me - I stopped a few hundred yards later and had all the freedom I wanted) but something that could cause trouble. It has in the past.

For me it is just a celebration of tolerance, freedom, and a most glorious sandy beach where I can be safe and content, and paddle in the shallow sea. What more can one ask for, North or South?

Yes there are beds on the south beach run by the same gentleman who runs the pedalos. He has no naturists signs covering his section of the beach, but go a few more yards and it is mainly naturists. The beach goes on for many hundreds of metres, is very sandy and the waters warm.

Well we spent every day for 2 blissful weeks on this lovely beach on our first ever visit and were very pleased to find that until about 3 in the afternoon it was not too busy at all. Even after 3 it wasn't too bad but this seemed to be the time a lot of Italians came to the beach. The lady who rents out the sunbeds was lovely and we never had any trouble getting one. The sea was nice and clear and perfect for snorkeling.
The Marina was one of the nicest hotels it has been our pleasure to stay at and all the restaurants we ate at were great.
We will be back!

Just enjoyed two weeks in Arillas staying at the Kaloudis Holiday Village (our 12th time there, and 15th in Corfu).  The whole beach was wonderful when we arrived with loads of sand.  The central beach was very wide and the north beach had plenty of room for two rows of sunbeds and no wading around the little headland.
However a couple of storms changed things.  The south winds more or less halved the width of the beaches, although leaving enough for one row of sunbeds.
Fortunately beautiful weather over the next few days restored much of the damage and the beaches are still in quite good shape, if not quite as magnificent as at the start of the month.  Wading round the headland is once more the norm.
Some people say sunbeds have spoiled the north beach, but I disagree. The sunbeds are invisible until you round the headland, and there are up to 40 about sets of them.  The further north part of the beach is as it always was and this year with much more sand.  Personally I like a sunbed, rather that a mat, but think that might be something to do with advancing age!  The two people who run the sunbeds are both very helpful and obliging providing clips to keep your towel from blowing away and brushing sand off the beds when needed.  By the way they have been charging €8 for two beds and a parasol this year.
Hope this report is useful to anyone who has not yet ventured to wonderful Arillas.
Regards
Pat

The beach is quite narrow but the good news is that it is getting wider every day. As in previous years there is a bank odf sand a few yards out and almost hourly the sea drops more sand and closes the gap. Those lucky to be here in july and august will enjoy a beach similar to last year.

We managed 5 hours on the north beach yesterday sun just breaking through the clouds before the rain came the tide was under some of the sunbeds beach is very narrow the sea more than chilly less than freezing. Roll on Friday when the sun is due back. 36 umbrellas and sunbeds go a long way up the beach in single file as the beach is very narrow making the rest of the beach busy when the sun is out.

Hi
What I can say with certainty is that since the beds started to appear in 2014 the beach started to get cleaner.
My first visit to Arrillas in 2010 found a very untidy beach.
My second visit in 2011 and working with Clive (an English guy) who was chairman of the Keep Arillas Tidy Committee, we cleared 25 sacks of rubbish, 4 fridge compressors and a moped frame over a two week period.
In 2012 the beach was very tidy from day one. In 2013 I cleared 14 sacks of rubbish in two weeks.
As said, in 2014 the beds started and the beach has since been tidier.
I posted beach clean reviews on this forum in my early years of visiting and received lots of support.
Perhaps the majority of bed users keep the beach tidy rather the minority of non bed users making a mess?
Christina the current bed operator certainly does her bit.
9. 30 and off to the beach.
Geoff

So glad to hear that there are sun loungers for hire on North beach as my partner has back problems.
We are both naturists and looking forward to spending our week on that beautiful beach when we visit in August 2019.

Already so excited as I spent a fortnight in Arillas in 2016 with my mum and immediately fell in love with the place and now can't wait to show Sharon how beautiful it is.
