Was in town, (Preston) 600euro for @1.145, only problem no room at the in (Mathraki) next week so will have to spend them in Haraki Rhodes, its hard work being retired. Oh well theres always next year.
David and Edna.

Haraki is a good choice. We found haraki and arillas in the same year 7 years ago and have been visiting haraki in June and arillas in September ever since
-
Yes Will, lovely place Haraki, we first went there in 2004, and have returned several times since, Arillas still takes preference in our affections, perhaps its because its 23 years since we first visited Arillas.
-
In spite of my reputation, which is quite correct that Arillas is the centre of my universe, I adore Rhodes. Given the means I would happily spend time there. My original wedding ring is buried somewhere under the sea in Faliraki since 1980.
Never heard of Haraki before, but looked it up. Looks typically Greek, and I am sure that I would like it after recommendations like yours. Arillas is not the only fruit, but these days it is the only one I want to eat.

-
My problem is I like both places equally, both have different qualities and feel at home each time I visit them!
-
Just goes to show how little we care about the exchange rate, which is what we were supposed to be on about. Do you get more euros in Haraki? My experience in Arillas is that changing travellers cheques is yet another way that the honest owners in Arillas give you the best deal possible. I remember posting this before when somebody had been stuffed in Spain.

Hi Phil, Having travelled around Greece for too many years to remember I Still work on the principle of piling the euros ( previously our beloved Drachma) in a heap dividing by the number of days/nights, spend a heap each night and waste whots left on Metaxa, lol.

David, Edna already knows. :)

1,1650 with clarity credi card today, slight drop from yesterdays 1.160 but above the rates being offered elsewhere. Great card as long as you don't need cash from the ATM
-
Aha ValnBill meluvvers. If I'm not wrong you're doing it for real just now, living the dream..... The 0.001% that exchange rates supply will never alter a fantastic meal at Graziella. It isn't worth worrying about. Life in Arillas is exactly what yous and Bill, PhilnJen understand.
Just bladdy enjoy, and forget about us.
loveandhugs

Like most we never worry about the exchange rate....just take the best on offer and spend it in Arillas.
Unfortunately today is our last day, we depart at 10pm tonight. Much as we hate night flights leaving so late gives us plenty of time for many tearful goodbyes.
David.... We will toast your absence with a Metaxa tonight, love to you and Edna, we have missed you both.

I have took the plunge and ordered at 1.17 as I can't see the rate going much higher within the next week. It would be nice to see it up to around 1.30 for next summer - wishful thinking?
-
1 .1706 this morning, ery pleased because usually I wait to long. Vivx
-
that should read 1.17.06. vivx
-
Its still going up - 1.175. If it gets close to 1.20 I would be tempted to get some Euros for next June/July

-
Exactly what I was thinking .......
-
Keep the chart updated please Terry, at 1.20 I would certainly buy.
Many thanks for your efforts to keep us informed.
Val x
-
I will keep updating Val.
If it does reach 1.20 and you by some - would I be a Euro-Star? :-)
-
1.145 today at M+S here in Exeter bought £1000 worth to go with the 460euros we had left over from May.
-

-

-
i got 117.2 last weekend ,,ready to rock and roll
-
Terry, you are always a star in my book ;)
Now I will start worrying about where I will put all next years spends if it reaches 1.20.
Can't see Bill lifting the floorboards..... so maybe I will buy a bigger tea caddy. Lol
Val x
-
Awwww thanks Val.
Well, its getting even better. A big jump on the market this morning, so maybe Bill will be getting the floor boards if the market price gets to around 1.23

We've just been into our local town and the rate is nothing like these .. :(
Best one is 1.163. The post office was 1.13!
May just take sterling as usual and get it from Vas at Marina like we usually do
Janis x

1.15 at post office to day
-
Just ordered online via travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com with the ICICI bank (FCA authorised) and have got 1.1734, so quite happy with that
Hopefully it will be delivered on Friday .. ;)
Janis x
-
Janis, I have used ICE bank for some time....and ICICI is a subsidiary. Used them in August and found the same high standard. Delivered by 1pm the next day.
The only problem is I now have two lots of passwords to remember... or in my case forget!! :)
Val x
-
Janis if you go to the shop on the corner by prim ark the rate is a lot more then all the other exchange rates in town. Viv x
-
The euro has gone to a 2 year high
Ice are giving 1.888
What do we all think
BUY or WAIT
-
Fairfx were at 1.205 yesterday , a milestone !
-
I bought £500 worth from Moneycorp last week for two reasons - firstly, the rate was good at 118.83 and secondly to avoid me spending it lol!

Sos - That should have read 1.1883! xx
-
Really Lokomo are you sure?
Boo hoo - that is a straight 1.2000 rate - not seen that for years!
My Euro tracker showed Sainsbury's at 1.1842 today?
-
e1.20 is currently bank rate for transferring funds from UK to Greece.
A e1.20 exchange for smaller amounts sounds good to me.
Negg
-
Yes it was defo 1.2 at Fairfx a few days ago but gone down a bit now due to the weekend and the possibility interest rates MAY go up. I knew I should have bought then.
-
1.192 now , just looked, so it's gone up a bit from yesterday. Should hit 1.2 again after the weekend I would have thought. Looking at the forecast it says that the rate should be getting better and better this year but you can never be sure . . . . .

Damn!
Always the way ha ha!
Was gonna buy £500 every month until I have what I need for both trips but will run the gauntlet and wait and see by how much it goes up by - fingers crossed it does!
And hey! welcome to the forum Lokomo xx
-
Now there's an ex rate that would get my heart pounding! 1000 GBP = 12000 euro..... I know it's a typo but for a split second I was buying a villa in Arillas.......... Dream on Phil!
Welcome from me too LOKOMO. It's a very enjoyable forum, that some call the mad house!

A good rate. - Slightly better than "Bank to Bank" , even though that hovered around e1.213 Saturday.

Anyone needing to buy Euros are advised to wait a couple of days.I have just bought mine for early June visit so as always they will shoot up within the next few days and I will once again regret not waiting. Ron.
-
haha Ron that made me chuckle. Currently showing at 1.18 round our way. Obviously better deals online but always nervous of using them after that big company went bust that year (was it Crown Currency?). Did anyone involved ever get their money back I wonder?
-
It was Crown Currency that went Jo, yes. I used them for years and had my last delivery of cash from them a couple of weeks before they went bump !
I ordered my currency yesterday online and got exactly 1.20 , happy with that :-)
-
Understand your concern Jo.I have used FairFX for the last few years and find them very good.Always seem to have the best rate.Got 1.208 on last transaction. Ron.
