I was wondering if there were any really good restaurants I have missed in my (only) three visits.
I have tried Vinceramo, Grazella, Thomas's, Horizon, Mirage, Kostas on the Beach, Portofino, Captains and Rainbows Bar-B night.
I have been to Brouklis once, that was fantastic, so definitely going there again, thanks to Phil and Jen for that one. And Horizon... I'm going on my first night 6th Aug.
-
Effys are equally as good as the rest, they do a mean spinach pie!
-
Try Effies (on the front, toward the ramp down to the beach) and try their Garlic Prawns. That's the best tip I'll give anyone today!
-
Sorry, didn't know you'd posted the same intentioncraft.
-
Armourada has it's fans as does Akti Hotel. Guests , at Tria Adelphia, always give me good reports about the food and their spit lamb , on Sundays, I have enjoyed a few times. Maybe try Rainbow not only for the Barbie but also weekly specials and Marvel , next door, has not disappointed me on the occasions we have eaten there.
Further afield, if you have time left, perhaps give Night Owl, Afionas, a try or FantaSea, Ag Stephanos, overlooking the beach
Cheers
Negg.

Marina and Thalassa.

Vivallas fish tavern
This is a must, situated on the road that runs from the south end of the beach past Bardis Hotel about 500mtrs on the left hand side
-
Yes, the garlic prawns at Efis are a must if you like prawns. Messy but gorgeous. If you have transport whilst there I would recommend Romeo's at Pagi. Beautiful authentic Greek food and if you like Retsina then definitely try and get as it is homemade and fantastic.
-
All the restaurants are pretty good! Our favourites are The Thallasa, Efi's, Kosta's, Brouklis and the Mirage.
But like I say they are all worth a try. Not been to the Horizon much as they tend to do most food with chips. We love the oven potatoes with the mains....
-
Horizon ... Chips? Don't think I've ever had an evening meal there with chips! Are you confusing them with somewhere else?
-
Thanks for all the suggestion, will definitely try them. Not been over to Anions so that will be a first this year.
-
Not tried Armourada or the Rainbow. We do mainly stick to the tavernas on the sea front - mainly Viceremos or Gratziellas. The only exceptions we make are Brouklis and Vavilas Fish Restaurant but we should perhaps broaden our horizons a bit because, after all, if we had not tried Brouklis and Vavilas we would never have found out how fantastic they are.
-
Never had a bad meal in 16 years in any Taverna's in Arillas. Not long now

And Horizon... I'm going on my first night 6th Aug.

Its our last night at the Horizon Nick. It will be good to meet you Nick, and you will have a great night with amazing food. That's a promise :-)

Rainbow is WELL worth a try Sonia. I must be honest and say that although I have always liked the place I wasn't sure if the food but be that good but it was ......

The best thing about Arillas´ restaurants, tavernas etc. is that not only are they excellent, they are all different as well! It would be boring to have to eat the same kind of food for a fortnight, no matter how tasty.
Our top 3 looks like this:
Brouklis for genuine Corfiot food, made with love and care, and no micro-wave! And for me always with Dimitris´ father´s rosé!
Effie´s for Greek food of a nice home-made kind. The garlic prawns are famous, but they have a lot of other goodies as well.
Horizon for a more sophisticated cuisine with an international touch. Horizon´s chef Spiros could work in any top quality restaurant on the continent. We are lucky that he has chosen to stay in Corfu.
(I simply cannot agree with billyd´s comment about Horizon´s food always being served with chips.)
There are lots of other fine restaurants serving Greek food. Some of them also serve hamburgers, pizza etc. or even a British Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding.
Then there is the pizzeria, the barbecue place... Visitors are spoilt for choice.

If you get the chance to go up to Afionas try Anemos. Spiro who runs it with his wife & family is the brother of Jimmy Anthis from the Rainbow.
We have been up there on a couple of occasions for lunch & dinner & the food is always fantastic & of course Spiros dry wit is always amusing & the views are fantastic.

You must try the new grill - Bouyata, next to the Malibu and owned by the same family.
Their food is amazing!

Cheers Terry,
It would be the first time I've actually met someone on this site in Arillas! Look forward to it.

There's far to many to fit in in a fortnight. I'll try some new ones this time but it looks like I'll have to go back again to try the others. :)

Beach point is another great grill restaurant Nick, they are very famous for their gyros pitta..delicious! We love to eat them as a take away on the beach with a bottle of cold mythos from Alex's supermarket next door. They serve lots of different dishes - Greek and English. The portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. The staff are very friendly too as are most of the restaurants in arillas. It's one our favourite places to chill out just watching the world go by!
As everyone has said all the restaurants are great and I love them all for different reasons.
Enjoy!

That's exactly what we do Suzy, you cant beat gyros and Mythos on the beach. We used to get ours from the place up past the Nut on the right, although that was 8 years ago so he may not be there anymore. Roll on the 30th and we come back to Arillas.

No the grill room next to the Malibu is no longer there but there is a new bbq place opened in its place this year which has had very good reports

We have just got home from our first Arillas visit.
We fancied a light snacky meal one evening so we tried Bouyata. It was the worst dining experience of the fortnight.
We had a chicken pita and a pork one. Both were luke warm, I wanted the pork and got the chicken one. The chips were
cold and greasy and we had to ask for knives and forks.
Chap and his girlfriend on next table had a mixed grill, served on a wood platter, but he had to go to the counter to ask for a couple of plates because he couldnt attract any attention.
Maybe it was an off night, but we were seriously unimpressed.
Other than that, we had superb meals every single evening.
-
From a hygiene poin of view the pictures of meat on wooden boards has put me of
-
Glad you enjoyed your visit Seagull Chris! Tell us more!
-
Had 4 great meals in Arillas this week. Mirage a lovely Stifado, Efi's a huge Pastistada, posh fish at the Thallasa and wonderful Mousaka at the Brouklis. Sorry about the comment about the Horizon, I should have said its Rice and chips
-
I can't believe that Portofino hasn't had a mention, lovely food
-
Only eaten there one lunch and it was very nice....
-
Portofino's stamina is to die for as is his souvlaki oh and the stuffed tomatoes are lush!
-
The stuffed peppers at Portofino are amazing! not your usual type but the long Romano peppers stuffed with feta and herbs and then roasted. Simple but absolutely gorgeous!
-
Steph, I drooled thinking about those Romano peppers stuffed with feta, cooked in olive oil and flavoured with Oregano. My version of food..............
Phil
-
Drooling too Phil ..... only 7 days until I can actually taste them!!! :)
-
Can't thank you all enough for your comments on tis thread. Problem is, I'm now going to have to extend my holiday to try everything!
-
Arrived yesterday and had the most orgasmic day of food. Had pitta gyros at Beachpoint with Retsina and the tzaziki on it was even more divine than last year. I didn't want to brush my teeth as enjoyed the taste in my mouth all day. Had our evening meal at vincerimos and had bakef feta to start which is the best baked feta I have ever had. It was cooked in tomato sauce with peppers. For the main course we couldn't believe our luck because they had cooked kleftiko for the first time this season and they do the best kleftiko there cooked in a little greaseproof bag. Can't wait to do it all again today.
-
ENJOY !!!! :-)
-
Sonia,
i have never heard of vincerimos where is that located? Sounds amazing
-
It used to be called sea breeze Lewis, next to Brazilian. Sonia, Billy had their baked feta nearly everyday last week, we came home subway night, I got the recipe off Kostas and cooked it last night, was good but not quite the same as eating it with that view! X
-
Ahhhh thanks Sharon, i will give it a try! :) x
-
Yeah Lewis , like Sharon says it used to be the seabreeze. Next to Gratsielas.
Sharon, I can understand stand why Billy had the baked feta everyday. I will definitely have it again at least once before we go home.

Brazilian!!! Lol predictive text, you won't be disappointed Lewis, we went several times and please try Kostas on the Beach again, we ate there twice this year and it was delicious and great service. X
-
Ate at bouyata the other day.
Awful - everything was reheated in the 'special' mixed grill.
The meat was fatty and congealed / Luke warm.
The reheated chicken leg was left uneaten along with most the of the 'meat'
Very disappointed.
-
Where is bouyata?
-
Next to Malibu I believe
-
Ive never noticed it before. How strange.
-
It's new this year Ness.
-
Very disappointing regarding bouyata. We have been looking forward to trying it out. Lets hope things improve as it was great when it was the Steki

I will definitely give it another try Sharon, im not a man to hold grudges! x

We went to Evdemon in Afionas last and it was wonderful. So welcoming and generally happy to see you. Food was as good as ever, I had the Sea Bass and the wife had home made Lasagne (no eggs or flour) delicious.
-
We went there last year Billy and it was just fabulous but what set it apart was our wonderful greeting from Yiannis and Litsa our lovely friends from Thalalassa many moons ago. Definitely an adults only place though I think.
-
Went to the Night Owl in Afionas last night. First time we have been. Absolutely fantastic food. I had mezze onnessis which is sauted mushrooms with bacon and melted cheese on top. I then had the biggest pork chop I have ever had with homemade chips and salad . Would definitely go back. Thanks for the recommendation Eggy.
-
We went to the Night Owl last year - fabulous food and such welcoming, friendly hosts. Certainly one to recommend if you have a hire car.
-
We have never tried Night Owl, but will give it a shot this year. As before we have never had a bad meal yet... Not long now
-
Loving the updates Sonia!
-
Mum we will have to go Night Owl this year, maybe your second night?
-
We stopped off at Night Owl for a coffee on our way to Afionas last year. It was only about 9.30am and apart from an elderly Greek gentleman and a lovely friendly dog we were the only ones there. The owner was very welcoming. We said we would return for an evening meal this year as we've heard that the pork soulvaki's are really tasty!
Thanks for keeping us all up to date on Arillas and surrounding area Sonia.

Night Owl is a real treat. Jen rates the chicken souvlakia as the best she has ever eaten, and all of Nikos' food is excellent. We're hoping to get there next week, but certainly will as soon as we can.
Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful people, wonderful food. What more could you ask for?

We went last year for the first time one overcast day. Mick's wonderful idea was to 'stroll' up there. The would have been HORRENDOUS enough had a) I not been wearing flip flops and b) had the sun not decided to beat down blazingly 20 minutes into our journey! When we finally did arrive having just managed to avoid a coronary after the vertical climb in searing heat, it was pure and utter bliss. The best little glasses of child white wine I have probably ever tasted along with a little meze.
-
Anions and it's restaurants sound great, need to be child friendly for me this time around. How far is Afionas from Arillas?
-
To the night owl it is about 45 Mon walk. Then another 15 minute walk up to the main square in Afionas. We used to walk it early in the morning when our kids were about 11 and 8.
The name night owl might have given you the wrong impression Nick as it is just a taverna not a club or anything. In fact when we were there the other night there was a little boy in who was 2 and the owners gave him a box of toys to play with so very child friendly.
-

Oh no, what a shame. We ate there four times in two weeks and had really lovely food. We noticed that it's very popular with locals too.
-
The wife and I went to the Brouklis last night, we were stuffed when we came out! I had the home made cheese pies (4) and Giouvaralakia (or something like that) the special for that night. Meatballs, with lovely cooked veggies. The wife had Feta Saganaki (I love that myself) and the Briami and it was excellent. Although the place was heaving we were made very welcome, again. Surely a must for Arillas addicts.
-
One thing I have found is that portions are always big. There isn't always a need for a starter. I went to Grazela a couple of holidays ago, we got very carried away with starters, sides and mains. The owner shook his head and told us off for ordering to much...In a nice way, but to be honest he was right. Eyes bigger than the belly.
-
A couple of nights ago we went to Mon Amour. A group. of us were picked up in Mon amours mini bus. We had a great time. The food was delicious. I had the spit roast lamb which comes with delicious potatoes. My husband had the mixed grill and was especially impressed with the chicken on it saying that it had a lot of flavour. The portions are big so you don't need a starter. We had lots of Greek salad left over and they kindly put it in a doggy bag for us. I think their homemade wine is a little rustic but they sell labeled bottles of wine and we had a Cabernet savignon for 8 Euros. At the end they gave us free platters of melon and cherries. I would definitely recommend this taverna.

I have always had my favourites in Arillas and those that I like less. I wouldn't say anywhere is terrible as there's places I like that others have criticised and restaurants I don't visit that others swear by. All of the restaurants offer good value, whether it's the more expensive places who's food you can't criticise or the cheaper places which are a little more basic. I remember having a moan last time I visited because people at adjacent tables were lighting up cigarettes as soon as they'd finished a course with no consideration of people at the next table. That ruined my enjoyment more than the quality of the food.
