Those of you who have seen my post about Cuttle fish and other fishy items may think I am getting adventurous.
But….. not this adventurous!!!
Stop press – From the Greek monthly –“ΕΝΑΣ ΤΣΟΚΕΡ”” –
“Conservationists in Greece have expressed concern about the rapidly decreasing number of iridescent beetles (Chrysochus Auratus) appearing in Corfu. Formerly commonplace in the area it has been discovered that some of the more “up market” restaurants in Athens and now select places in Corfu Town have been serving the larvae of the beetles in their Tavernas. Deep fried and served with lemon and salad you can expect to pay at least 15 euros per portion for this delicacy.”
Well…..They could soon become as rare as truffles as they already take some finding, nestled away in compost bins or under leaf mulch. Allegedly packed with vitamins but, I would think, a very acquired taste, unless you’re that intrepid traveller “Bear Grylls”
