Title: Weather this week in Arillas
Post by: justphil on March 23, 2011, 11:40:45 PM
Just looked at the website forecast - it looks just lovely for the next week. Dry, warm (18 - 20deg day time, 11 -12deg night time) and a few clouds. Perfect for long walks on the beach. It has been like that for most of UK today, and we have all commented. FB is full of it.

Roll on Spring and Summer, and getting us all there. Only a few weeks till Sara, Eileen and Sandy are there. Looking forward to following their visits, and all the others to follow.

Spring is sprung, the grass is ris, I wonder how Arillas is....

Absolutely agree with this last post Glenda9Jacob welcome to the forum. Always nice to see new comments on here.

See the Photo Gallery I have some pictures of Arillas in October ....I think there was a lot of "weather" that week! :-)

I am just getting ready to leave for the airport now and can't wait to see Arillas again.I'm sure we will see some thunderstorms this week they are a spectacular show. Always a pleasure to be in that happy place.

Cheers Nan x

The website forecast is largely overcast for the next week. Dry, warm and cloudy. Chance of Thunderstorm towards middle of next week, but unlikely. Hope it's sunny sometimes for those who are going on Friday/Monday.

I spoke to Viv yesterday (well, by text anyway!) and she said it was about 16 degrees and raining... Still, we'd rather be over there in the rain than over here in the rain!
Overcast weather in Arillas is not bad - it enables us to walk up to Afionas or walk up to see Nikos at Akrotiri...
Thunderstorms in Arillas are not bad - in fact they are pretty spectacular - and what better way to watch than to to sit in a bar with friends and enjoy the experience?
Rain in Arillas - well that's good too - it waters the plants and flowers that enhance our experiences there, and, as Nan says, it dampens down the dust.

So - all is well!   We leave in the morning, arriving at Corfu airport around 20.45 and looking forward immensely to it !!

Spent a blissful early morning snorkelling by the jetty. Calm and crystal clear sea meant lots of fish- big and little ones. Yellow catfish there this morning never seen one like it before!!

Normal service has been resumed the weather is beautiful - sunny and warm not a cloud in the sky!

Had a little chat to Yiota on the way back from the beach. She sends her love and looks forward to seeing you all soon

See you very soon Janis xx

Cheers Nan xx

Just over a week until we arrive in arillas. I was getting a little worried with all the thunderstorms forecast. We came out at this time two years ago and were told that we were fortunate to have had good weather.

Honest moment coming....
Stuff June. Bring the sun on from 11th July. There. I've said it.

Wish I hadn't though. I've done Arillas in 53 degrees (too hot to move) and in hailstorms. Litsa at Thalassa saying "I'm going home to put ALL OF MY CLOTHES ON." In the end if you make friends here, the weather doesn't matter.

It appears that the weather pattern in UK is repeating itself for the fourth year, a nice few weeks then rain and wind for 9 months! Anyway 2 months time I'll be in Arillas enjoying it all again, can't wait.

We fly out this Monday for a week because we can't wait until our 2 week holiday  in August to relax in Arillas . Our problem is what to pack - in August it is hot and sunny every day but reading the forum it seems that June is less predictable. We have packed a waterproof and umbrella just in case but are the days and evenings warm enough for shorts and t shirts or do we need to pack warm clothe as well any advice very welcome!! Only 2 sleeps to go and sooooooooooooo looking forward to our return to Arillas.

Tried to post this in the correct thread (Macbew) but failed so put it here.

Just watched most of the beach nearly disappear in front of my eyes. And some hardy soul running in and out of the sea, many people getting a move on along the front, and a few cars leaving. It looks like a storm might be coming in. I so wish that Jen and I were watching it all from Thalassa with a Mythos in hand. Nattering to Spiros and soaking it all up. The lady is upset - when she wants to, Arillas can be a woman scorned....

Weather is glorious, arrived Friday had a couple of beers with lovely Nan and Barry so nice to meet them. First time that we have visitedthis early usually Sept for us. The evenings are warm just a cardie if you are a chilly beast. Saw fireflies last night when walking home after a great meal, lovely to see, when we got in and sat at balcony for a nightcap....a firefly landed on the table and gave us a closeup light show...wonderful. 11.30 in morning here and is 27 in the shade..that will do me. Beach is looking great...tho no sunbeds for hire at the moment...a license problem I believe..never mind a towel and a bamboo mat does the job...is easy getting down onto it..just the getting up again can be a problem...my poor knees tend to go off like a pair of duelling pistols!
Regards to all.xx

See, it makes life worth living. Crap engulfs us all. But somehow the spirit of the folk who live there in Arillas makes it better.

Home to Norfolk...goodbye to home Arillas!

Georgia luvver, like us you have two homes. For you home Norfolk and home Arillas. For us home Somerset and home Arillas. Our Somerset connection is looking more and more wobbly these days....

So glad you had a great time in Arillas. I wrote a huge post in response to your thread, but it went pear shaped and logged me out of the forum. I reckon Dimitris is censoring posts that are too positive about the place....

loveandhugs

Hi all, we are new to arillas but have read great reports on the place and have been looking at the forum for a few weeks now so thought we had better join in, i must admit as our holiday approaches we are starting to get a bit worried about the weather, but hey ho it still beats 14 degrees and cloud in bristol, hopefully by the time we get out there the weather will have turned and we can enjoy all arillas has to offer to the full.

Hi Pete and Naomi - don't worry about the weather. Ignore what weather forecasts say and just go and enjoy! We went the last two weeks in May and the forecast given included a few days of thunder and lightning and rain....  Most of the "bad" weather swirled around Arillas and missed it! We heard a few rumblings, we had about fifteen minutes maximum of rain and then it was hot again.

Take plenty of suncream and enjoy!

You'll be back time and time again!

Hi "newbies"
Janis is right. Weather from now on will be hot. Can be spectacular too. Sudden storms like a child's tantrum - over and forgotten in no time. Mistraio - the Sea Breeze with attitude that can blow you off your feet - our Eileen will chuckle remembering me catching her as she was nearly blown into the sea. But please remember your factor 15+ or you WILL burn. Far more interesting than Rhodes, where it is just hot 360/365 days of the year. We had 25 degrees and sun last week of October last year, and no rain for the whole week.

Have a fantastic time, and tell us all about it when you go back abroad to the UK.

Hi All
We had friends staying in San Stef, just got back from 14 days and they were worried before they went as the long range forecast for their stay was terrible...at least 10 days of rain. Even the BBC forecast was poor, but like 99.9% of long range forecasts it was so wrong it was a laugh.....they in the end had 20mins of rain one night

Rain was forecast when we were there, we had dark clouds early one evening and heard thunder, the next day a few drops of rain fell,  not enough to ripple the water in the pool.

After several rained off events this weekend, i am looking forward to two weeks in arillas even more, and i agree with you Ang i would rather be in the rain in arillas than in cold, wet Bristol.

does anyone know the exchange rate in Arillas at the moment and what fees are being charged, the best rate i've found in this country is 1.06 to the pound but that is online.

Hi Pete and Naomi, dont know what the rate is in Arillas but I changed £200 on friday at a local travel agency and got 1.09 euro which was quiet good...my bank were 1.06 and the post office 1.04.

I always prefer to do my exchange in arillas.

Ang, how do you change in Arillas without an ATM. My Visa Debit card won't work in San Stefanos and the only one I found last yea,r that worked, was in Kassiopi. I am tempted to just take my full spending money in Euros, but I would rather not.

I've just had 1.10 from Tesco. it's on line or phone 08456006667.
Free 24hr delivery if £500.
Also if paid by Tesco credit card there's no cash advance fee or comission. (M and S also do this but their rate is normally a point lower than Tesco.
If you pay by debit card there's normally a charge by the bank.

1.096 with Thomas Cook on the high street today. I'm also trying their passport, where you pre-pay a card with euros then use it as a debit card. 2E to get it out of an ATM, nothing otherwise. It uses MasterCard.

I tried changing in Arillas earlier in the year, but got a better rate at home.

A lot of travel agencies give you a better rate the more you exchange, we changed £600 before we went and got 110.05 from Thomsons, you have to ask though.

It is a record. For the first time since we have followed it, which is many years, it is slightly hotter here than it is in Arillas. Jen has a gizmo on her laptop's desktop which follows the temperature in both places and she just shouted wey-hey! it's the same now! 26 degrees in both. And a minute later it was 27 here, 26 there. Eat yer heart out Arillas - the UK is warmer than you! Not that it matters one little bit. It lasts longer there....

In my head I'm sitting with Jen on Horizon deck drinking black russians..... having eaten Katerina's cooking at Thalassa. Will have to wait a while for that.

In any case, you and Barry just soak it all up. Give viv and pete our very best, and take advantage of where you are. You don't have to tell me about it - I already know. Have a great stay at home in Arillas.

I think Mike / Elena is just starting to "find" his way around the Forum and did not see that this was an "Old Oct 2011" posting. His posts only started from mid Feb, I think, and he signed one from FAIRFIELD CA. I am sure he will explain and it is a good opportunity to re-generate this post.

The start of the week, here, was 2 very nice "sit outside" days but we paid for it Wed/Thu and with the heavy winds yesterday suffered an agonising 14 hour plus power cut. A few showers this morning but fingers crossed it will brighten up. There is so much water on the roads it is difficult to negotiate the many new potholes that are appearing. Wegg records rainfall etc and it has been the wettest FEB for 7 years. (296mm) Currently on 42mm so far in March and most of that appeared in the last couple of days. (No wonder that hard top is back on Mike's vehicle !!)

Cheers
Negg

Hope the weather improves for you in the next few days, we too have numerous potholes along our road. A little truck came along and put two shovels full of warm asphalt in the worse ones.....then a car came along and squeezed it all out again. Complete waste of public funds. Still the same potholes.
