Title: Galini 2015
Post by: Cheryl2307 on June 16, 2015, 02:29:53 PM
Just wondering if there's any sign of life here this year?  Anyone there who can let me know if it's open, I would be very grateful (nudge nudge Eggs if you are driving by).  Thanks in advance.

Cheryl
When we were over in May they were doing some work there the word was that it was going to be used by people who go over for the Meditation and healing (Alexis Zorbas).
Elena and Stella opposite was also going to be used by them
and work was also being done at the Tropicana
A large Marquee had been erected in the field behind Elena and Stella and this was to be used as a meeting place and for healing sessions.

Going to miss you again this year..... have a fab time.

Thanks John, puts my mind at ease, after last year's issues I would hate to turn up late at night and find we have nowhere to stay!  Sorry I will miss you but I love 'sharing' your hols on the 'Wish you were here' thread you run.  Will be slightly more hectic for you in July I imagine haha!

Eggs, his darts are in tip top shape, think he'll give you a good game this year, he's really looking forward to it, it's four years since he was last over.  We might have to endure an Eggy moan or two about your form if your elbow is suffering!

Not that I'm counting down or anything but it's only 7 weeks on Friday, yippee!

I was there the week after John , Cheryl , and he was working (in the loosest sense of the word! lol) then everyday. I presume it was his wife that I saw sunbathing most days around the pool. The pool had water in , the first time I have seen that in May , and the place was looking well on the way to being ready to open :-)
I did ask the owner about booking possibly for next year but in typical Greek fashion he just pointed me in the way of Olgas Travel!  He didn't leap to his feet with excitement , throwing the cat on his lap into the pool, and want to show me rooms and sell the Gallini to me !  lol .
Perhaps its just me but surely he would have been better giving me his e mail address and taking the booking directly rather than putting an extra cog in the wheel using Olga's ?  OR maybe even have shown some interest in my custom by wanting to let me view the rooms when I explained that we needed three ..........
Its the Greek way I suppose which is why we love them so much.
What happened last year if you don't mind me asking Cheryl ?

Hi Truth,

I have booked the Galini through Olga's Travel, she has been brilliant and I would have struggled to get the accommodation we needed without her.  Maybe the gentleman owner is not used to dealing with these issues and his English may not be strong.  I just had a twinge of uncertainty so thought I would ask on here!

I booked through Booking.com last year but when we arrived at our accommodation it was awful and there was no way I could stay there with my granddaughter.  I was very very lucky in a that a certain gentleman (you know who you are!) came to our rescue and we got sorted with a fabulous place.  I paid in full but when I complained to Booking.com they just ignored me and had me down as a 'no show' so I couldn't go on to their site to rate the place!  Managed to put something on TripAdviser if you want to take a look.

So you can probably understand my little concern, we all really need this holiday to start the minute we get there.

You are going to be fine at Gallini I am sure !  Its a place I have always fancied the look off for some reason, you will have to let me know how it goes there for you :-)
You mean Negg came to the rescue !  lol
I did e mailed Olga and she came back asking if I was enquiring for 2014 or 2015 and when I replied 2015 the conversation ended ........

Thanks Eggs, I will do.

Truth, it was not Eggy ........... my lips are sealed but you will know him well!  I will let you know how we get on but they do look nice when you walk by and everyone who stayed there when they were with a tour operator rated it highly.

Sonia I will PM you if you can't find on TripAdviser, don't want to put anything on here and cause trouble for anyone haha

Found your review Cheryl. How terrible and insult to injury as you did not get your money back. I found it by looking up apartments in Arillas on booking.com.  I then looked at each one on list. It was the 3rd on the list. I hope you dont mind me giving this clue Cheryl.
Title: Re: Galini 2015
Post by: Cheryl2307 on June 18, 2015, 10:57:21 AM
Am glad you all found it, it was awful and not at all as advertised.  I'm not for one minute suggesting that all their studios are that bad and the ones on the main road look really lovely from the outside but the apartment was a death trap in my opinion, just getting into it made my hair stand on end!  I can add that I will never use Booking.com again, they were no help at all and like I said before, put me down as a 'no show' so I couldn't write a review on their site.  All of my emails to them went unanswered.  But every cloud and all that, the help I was given totally saved the holiday, the accommodation we were given was totally perfect.  I will never be able to repay the kindness shown to me and my little family and that is what Arillas is all about!

Sharon I am so excited for you, it will be brilliant and after all you've been through in recent years, will hopefully be the tonic your soul needs.

took me a while, but i found it. what a surprise, like you say on booking.com they look lovely. thanks for the info, have been looking on their site for somewhere in september, cause our usual independant is booked up. i think we are going to have a look around when we are there in the next few weeks.

Cheryl, if I was you I would not let it lie. I would take them to the small claims court if necessary but then I would say that being a lawyer! Remember 3 years to do so from the date when you arrived on holiday - some legal advice there for you for free! Lol.

Some very good advice for you there Cheryl, "if nothing ventured then nothing gained". You also had the presence of mind to take a few photos so you do have evidence. Don't let someone else take your hard earned money.

I saw your review Cheryl not long after you left it. Needless to say, I crossed that one off my list right away! I would not have been happy at all - Definitely persist with them in regards to getting your money back. Booking.com is one of the sites we use to sell our rooms (I work in a hotel) A lot of companies have a habit of ignoring complaints in hope that people will get bored and give up - don't, stick with it.

I wonder how often the photos are updated for accommodation, especially ones advertised on here? I personally think they should be updated every season.

I read the review, sometimes I think places should be named and shamed, that way they are pressured to sorting out issues rather than ignoring complaints. It would be ashamed if the same thing happened to another family.

I'd stick to the complaint with booking .com too.

I popped into Galini yesterday. A smashing pool and just one guest taking advantage of it. (He did say that others were staying there)

Very quiet. So quiet the owner had left him in charge and gone to the beach for a swim.

It looks good and If I still had holidays, Galini would be on my shortlist.

I know Kostas and Bridget well. In fact I was swimming with Kostas on the beach yesterday. They are open and will not let anyone down. The sunbather referred to earlier was their daughter, Athina, who has now gone back to Athens. Bridget arrives early July. Kostas has poor English, but it is probably better than my, and your Greek. If you have booked there, don't worry, be happy.

Don't worry - Be happy , says it all Dai.

But the sunbather I spoke to was a male guest. (if , that is , you refer to my little visit to Galini yesterday)

We must all make sure, and stress, that any bad reviews , spoken of in earlier postings, DO NOT refer to Galini. Many Postings can go off topic and then can easily be misread.

Galini should be on anyone's shortlist as a place to spend your well earned rest from that nine to fiver everyday chore.

Cheers

I try hard not to impose these days , but I have to say VERY CLEARLY that Galini IS NOT the subject of the bad reviews. It is absolutley perfect for those who want access to the centre but on their terms. Edge of village but less so than Tria. Wonderful clean pool, peace with a capital P. Good enough for Eggy? Sort of says it all. A wonderful part of Arillas.

If this thread is read thoroughly from the first post onwards, it is clear that Galini isn't the place with the bad reviews. I posted the accommodation link to the place that does, as it is being advertised on here. So I am unsure why anyone would get confused as to which is which?! :-)

Rachel

It has been known that some posts , quite often, are not read from the beginning. Many Greek Taverna/Hotel owners quite often take a peek at the posts and could easily misunderstand.  (Speaking English well does not always mean they can read with the same expertise)

I could easily misread your post, Phil, where you say "Good enough for Eggy"
Does that mean Galini is good enough for me or does it mean that your post puts my concern at rest? - (Anyway know what yer mean)

Doesn't hurt to remind all, at this stage, the accommodation we were talking about.

Thank you, Eggy for taking time out of your busy busy schedule (ha ha) to pop in for me, mind at rest!

I purposely did not name the accommodation I had booked last year as it has nothing to do with this Forum and I'm sorry if this has resulted in confusion.  I will now leave this thread in case I cause any more mishaps, old grannie that I am!

Thanks for all the replies.

Cheryl

Nothing is a problem but, in the past, I have met a few local owners who tend not to get the full picture.
I have a few examples which I will happily tell to those who ask me.

None of us should lose sleep over it. - And.... Forum Members never fall out , just hug n kiss a bit more (Unless it's Phil!! - but I do shake his hand)
Galini and Eleni/Stella are still on my "To Do" list. I just have to get the timing right and catch the owners for some extra info.

Both places looking good. I NEED A HOLIDAY!!!

Edge of village but less so than Tria.

Sorry - a bit confused here. I thought that the Galini was on the corner , just a bit further up ( going away from the beach) from the bakery, so a bit closer to the village centre than the Tria. Am I thinking of the wrong place?

Sorry Anne - you have placed it exactly. I meant that it is less far out than Tria, so you are exactly right - a bit closer to the centre.

Best wishes

Always go past the Galini on our walk into the village and think what a nice place it looks.  Will definitely pop in there this year and see if we can view the appartments.  This time it will be a walk up as we are staying at Irene's luxury appartments.

Hi Cheryl.

We stayed at the galini about 8 years ago and we had a fantastic time. The rooms are great as is the pool. Handy for the bakery and not that far to walk to the beach. You will love it. xx

Just to finish this thread off properly, we have now returned from our stay at Galini and can confirm the good comments, the rooms were lovely and clean and were perfect for us.  The pool was nice and quiet so we had it all to ourselves most of the time.  Lovely hosts, happy to help with anything and not imposing.  The only negative was the fact that you couldn't buy a drink there but the supermarket is only a short walk away.

All in all, a lovely place to stay and I would have no hesitation in recommending Galini and I would go back again with the family.
