Title: Bardis Sun Studio
Post by: siobhan on July 15, 2004, 01:52:45 PM
Just back from Arillas, Corfu, stayed at Bardis Sun Studio. I thought it was disgusting. There is so much litter laying around arillas and corfu, you would think they didn't care about the tourist. Also there is a bad smell in certain places, it smells of sewage.

As for Bardis Sun studio, it was suppose to be quiet and relaxing, but the bar played really loud music till 1.00 am every morning. It was not very nice, the beds were uncomfortable and the sheets had been there since the dawn of time. The worst thing was the shower, the water went every where and even flooded out onto the corridor. There were mops along the corriders, supposedly for us to dry it up after. However the mops were sitting in disgusting water that had never been changed, which meant you were drying your floor with those dirty, germ ridden things. I didn't find the staff friendly, they were at the start, but I think when they realised we weren't spending money in their bar, it was a different story. Every day the pool was cleaned, but even after that insects and even bird droppings were in it. Don't go here, its cheap and dirty. I wish I had of spent extra money and went somwhere else. Don't be fooled by good reviews, that was the reason I went.

It is a very beautiful place in arillas, its just not what I had hoped for.

OOooo dear!  You ever been abroad or to Greece before?   :o

I would suggest staying in a B&B in the Uk!

All beds are uncomfortable (apart from our own) - grin and bear it comes to mind - you are on holiday.  All showers are the same in that locality and god forbid it had insects!!!!  Heavens - stay at home luv

You write as if I have never been abroad or travelled, which is not true and you couldn't possibly know that. I wrote my experiences because when I booked the holiday I read many reviews and articles regarding both arillas and Bardis Sun, most of which ranged from ok to good. However, in order to get a balanced picture I put up my experiences, which unfortunately and to my expense were not good.

Your experience may have been good, mine was NOT!!!

I am travelling to Arillas in October with my boyfriend and staying at the Bardis Sun Studios  , which I was greatly looking forward to. I find it hard to believe that this place was recommended to me if it is such an awful place to stay.I am just hoping that there is a difference in taste and standards between myself and you as we are both young and carefree and hopefully I will not dwell on these issues that bothered you so much. This review is extremely disappointing and even upsetting :(  as I have saved up for this holiday, but I appreciate that this is your honest viewpoint and thank you for it.No matter what,I fully intend to enjoy my time in Arillas with the people, the food and the atmostphere to the maximum and can hopefully make the most of the accommodation.
Title: Siobhan's bad time in Bardis Sun
Post by: Janina on July 16, 2004, 03:01:09 PM
To the person visiting in October:
I can't comment on the accommodation because I have never stayed there, but the village itself is lovely and MOST of the people are very friendly indeed. Get yourself along to Brouklis Taverna for traditional Greek food and a warm welcome from Dimitris. The Coconut bar and Malibu next door play some good sounds and karaoke. The Rainbow on the road out has a good pool and Jimmy and Spiros are good fun. Anna's Studios up the hill also has a good pool, Anna, Costas and their son Tassos are all very friendly. Above all don't stay too long in the apartment dwelling on what's wrong with the place. It will make you all bitter and twisted.

Thanks,I totally agree! No need to worry,I shall enjoy myself totally even if the accomodation isn't up to scratch.Thnks for the tips of where to go,it'll be helpful when I get there so I'll print the info off now.At least there is plenty of positive feedback regarding Arillas and it sounds like a very magical place to me, as many seem to go back year after year.I cannot wait to get there and meet all the people I've been hearing so much about!!

HI ALL,
I can't understand the negative remarks and complaints from Siobhan ? because my nephews stayed there and appt, bed etc were clean with no problems!!! perhaps with respect you have stayed in too many 5star hotels & expect too much ?
And to Janina and Ivan( we've spoke before Ivan) you will have no problems we always make the best of what you've got !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't fancy something ,you've got plenty of other choices??

We have stayed at the bardis sun about eight times now and are returning there three weeks tomorrow. It is a wonderful place,so is the village of Arillas. The people are friendly and really make you feel welcome and part of the family.Spiros and Poppy will do everything they can to make sure that you enjoy your holiday with them. The pool is always spotlessly clean otherwise we wouldn't use it.Any normal person going there will have a fantastic holiday.[/b]

I'm also pleased to see more positive comments, although from everything else I've read on here before I took the review by that person with a pinch of salt.
Me and the boyfriend go on the 17th August for 10 days, and as long as it is clean and has a bed, I'll be happy :) The tickets and stuff arrived today, so it all seems so much closer now.
Anyone else going to be there the same time as us?

To Nichola.

We are staying at the Bardis Sun,in the Hotel, from the 13thAugust.We think you will love it.There are two pools that you can use both with bars. The bar at the hotel closes at about 6pm,so if you use the saftey deposit boxes get anything out before then. The bar next door stays open until 1pm and is a great place to have a last drink before going to bed.If you want later night life there is the Malibu and the Coconut that stay open until god knows when(our teenagers go there). There are loads of places to eat all of them good.We usually end up at Kostas on the beach and have yet to try the Brouklis, but have decided we will this time.Hope to meet you in person at some time during your stay.[/b]

Post by: Craig on July 27, 2004, 05:28:24 PM
I dont understand these negative comments about the Bardis Sun, we stayed there 3 years ago for 2 weeks and never had any problems, it is good accomodation, in fact having stayed at 4 different places in Arillas I would say the only one I was happier with was the Brouklis taverna, which was easily the best. to be fair Corfu isnt everyones cup of tea but I think coming on and bad mouthing a place like that is a bit harsh, for one thing explain to me how you can be comfy in bed when its that hot? the pool, bar and the owners of the bardis sun were all great when we were there, spiros and poppy were really nice. so anyone reading this I wouldnt be put off going there by one person thinking they have a bad time.

Hi everyone, :D
I would just like to say don't let the bad comments put you off Bardis Sun.  Me and 5 mates were there from the 9th to 23rd of July and it was fantastic   although we were told that if we didn't keep the noise down we would be moved  .  We ended up have 5 complaints in our first week.  This is due to the other people staying there being put of by us, but we just carried on (our travel agents fault for letting 6 young people stay).  But have to say our second week was fantastic, met a lot of people on the same wave lenght as us (up for a laugh).  Poppy, Spiros, Bobby and George were brillant (see ya next year  ) and as for the nite life we spent all our time in Coconut.  Costas, Perry and Hana are lovely people (sorry for keeping you up all the time  ).  If you want to stay out all nite Coconut is the place to go, we normally left about 6am in the morning and most times were still there when the cleaner came in (6.30am).  Anyway Siobhan is rite about the showers but only to a certain extent, the shower in our room didn't go everywhere, just outside the shower cubical (just put a towel down).

If anyone needs anymore info just ask!!!

Poppy didn't tell us first that he was her brother he blurted it out.Think she was trying to keep it quite. We also have a daughter called George (Georgina) so whenever we shout her at the beach or anywhere loads of people turn round. We took George and her brother last year and they got told to be quiter a few times when they sat talking on the sunbeds by the pool. This year her other brother is coming with us they are 16 and 19 so there could be more noise.

Take care. Lisa

Just Back from Bardis Sun, and I can see Siobhan's point. The showers are terrible and the beds uncomfortable. I say good for you Siobhan for being brave enough to write your comments, no matter how negative. I do agree that perhaps our expectations are too high, nevertheless you do expect certain things to work properly.

Also I don't think Poppy and Spiros knew our name, as someone else said earlier. Too be honest I wouldn't rush back and will defintly not stay in Bardis Sun.

The accomodation at the Hotel is much better than the studios in my opinion which is why we choose to stay there. The showers are never that good in corfu and you just have to let the water run everywhere and drain away. As for poppy and spiros we have always found them helpful and friendly, and we don't even stay in their accomodation.

Post by: guest on August 12, 2004, 10:02:34 PM
We've just returned after spending 2 weeks at the Bardis Sun Studios and we were not impressed. The rooms are minute - smaller than any that we've ever seen in Greece - there is literally no room to swing a cat and we were contantly bangning our knees on the furniture - which was sparse and dated back to the 1960s! Be careful not to touch anything because it is likely to fall apart or give you an electric shock. The room was dirty and the curtain smelt of stale urine. So needless to say, we did not spend a great amount of time in our apartment! The balcony looked out onto the pool and although lacked any kind of privacy, it was quite convenient for us. The bar plays loud music until 1.00 pm, which wouldn't be so bad if it were not for the Irish soaks and their kids shouting loudly about what a good 'crack' they were having right outside our balcony until the early hours.

As for Poppy, Spiros and the family; they are lovely, very chatty and pleasant..... but their charm wears thin if you aren't prepared to spend all your euros at their bar.

The pool was lovely and usually quite quiet during the day. We could not fault its cleanliness. We had a lovely time relaxing on the sun beds.
The beach itself was very close, but was again a bit disappointing. Although very long in length, it is only about 3 metres wide. Much of the beach was covered in large pebbles, which although very beautiful, were too uncomfortable to sit on. Most of the spare beach is taken up by sunbeds, so there is little beach left if you just want to lay on your towel. We found the beach to be very dirty, although it had won awards for its cleanliness. There were cigarette butts and rubbish on the sand and in the sea and a disgusting stench of sewerage along much of it. It was not a pleasant place to spend a lot of time. Admittedly, the swimming was good when the sea was calm. The sea is gently shelving, warm and free of jelly fish. We enjoyed snorkelling around some rocks, but found that there seemed to be no restrictions on where the speedboats and other sports were allowed to go making swimming far out very dangerous.

We prefered to hire a scooter out and travel to nicer beaches further along the coast, such as Agios Georgios and Agios Stefanas. There is only one place in Arillas where you can hire scooters, 'Arkokal Travel'. We would not reccommend hiring anything or booking any trips with this company because they are extremely unprofessional and definitely 'on the scam'. It is probaly better to make your way to one of the larger resorts if you want to do this, or book things through your travel company.

We travelled with Thomson, which we thought would be reliable, but were very disappointed with the quality of their accommodation. We payed a lot of money to travel with them but will definitely not be doing so again. We have travelled with companies such as Manos, Kosmar and Unijet in the past and have paid less for much better accommodation.

Don't get me wrong. We still had a wonderful holiday in Corfu. the weather was great, company superb and we made the best of it. Corfu is an amazing island and I would love to return. The restaurants in Arillas are very dependable and we had lovely meals every evening. We found the Chinese restaurant, 'The Wok' to be good value for money and the cuisine as good, if not better, than any Chinese back home. We have travelled to Greece many times and have not got unrealistic expectations of the Greek Islands. We expected things to be basic. It's quaint and part of the charm of the country and one of the reasons that we continue to return each year. What we were unprepared for was the standard of accommodation that we found at the Bardis Sun Studios and the dirtiness of the beach in Arillas.

I find it shocking that a place that depends so much on the money brought in by tourists is doing very little to attract new and returning visitors. The Bardis Sun is in desperate need of renervation. Just some white paint, new bedding and a new cleaner would be a start! Arillas must spend some money cleaning up their beach if they want to continue to attract tourists.

I may sound like a whinging discontent, but I think that it is about time that people actually spoke the truth so that people know what to expect before they go on holiday. It's bad enough the travel companies spouting bull shit in their brochures without people on forums, designed to inform people and give the tourists perspective, not telling the whole truth.

I am sure that many people will disagree with this post, but I am simply giving MY OPINION about MY HOLIDAY which will hopefully inform people better before they book or go away.  I would rather someone had told me the truth or a more honest opinion before I booked.

8) A number of comments:
1 I give more credence to a post supported by a name rather than the anonymity of "guest"
2 Did you mention these points to your Thomson rep.? If so what was the response? and if not, why not?
3 Ihave to say these comments do not reflect what we have found in Arillas, however we are booked for the Bardis sun studios in September so, as you can imagine we are taking a close interest in this subject.

I have not stayed in the Bardis Sun hotel so I cannot express and opinion on it, but I have to disagree with you regarding the beach.

O.k so it is on the narrow side, I was surprised myself when I first visited Arillas, but I cannot agree in regards to the cleanliness.  I was on the beach in May and also, late June/early July, both times with my very young grandson and I had no hesitations about him playing on the sand.  I return in September so it will be interesting to see if there has been any deterioration in the cleanliness of the beach since my last visit.

Contrary to what you say regarding returning tourists, Arillas has a very large amount of returning visitors so it must be getting something right to achieve this.

No holiday destination can get everything right for everybody, perhaps your disappointment in the Bardis Sun Hotel heightened your awareness of all that was wrong in Arillas for YOU.

unlike some i am not afraid to put MY NAME along with MY POST!!!
all i have to say is fine that is YOUR OPINION for YOUR HOLIDAY but i think that you will find that what other people have put on this forum is not 'bull s**t' but infact what they thought of THEIR HOLIDAY and if they had a good time then they had a good time just because YOUR HOLIDAY wasnt as perfect as some of ours you dont have the right to say that people on this forum are not telling the truth about the place!!

there are other places that you can rent scooters from, maybe you should of looked around and asked at other places instead of going to the only place that had scooters parked outside, i no for a fact that you can rent scooters from anna (arillas rent a car) as my friends did when we were there in july and as this was only 3weeks ago im pretty sure that they would of still rented them out while you was there if you have only just returned!!!!!!!!!!!

for the part that you have wrote about not doing anything to attract new and returning visitors what do you want the village to do advertise all over english television, it is a small village there isnt much more that can be done there people go for a quiet relaxing holiday what would you like to see a theme park built on the egde of the arillas?????? most people on this forum return to arillas once or twice every year and i think that you will find most new people visiting arillas will return at another point in there life!!!

in MY OPINION it seems YOU are the one who is not telling the truth, in my 3years of travelling to arillas in which i will continue to do so i have not once thought that the beach was dirty and not clean i have never seen litter over the sand!! yes it has won the blue flag award on a number of occassions and im pretty sure that they dont give this out to DIRTY BEACHES!!!!!!!!!! also if you had walked down the far end of the beach you would of found that the beach was not taken up by spare sunbeds!

Marie.

8) Marie,
A case of different strokes for different folks? You can look forward to an opinion on the Bardis from someone who appreciates what Arillas, and what I call Real Greece, has to offer when I come back in October after two weeks in the Bardis Studios.
What we have to realise is that not everyone will enjoy a holiday in Arillas. This does not mean that there is anything wrong with Arillas or the people. Very possibly the very reasons we like Arillas are the reasons some people dislike it. Enough rambling,

Me and the boyfriend leave early tuesday morning for Arillas and the Bardis Sun Hotel, and I shall be happy to give my opinion on the place. I've never been to Arillas before, never been to Corfu before. Nearest I've been is Halkidiki on the mainland back in 2001. I'm hoping to have a lovely time, and as others have said, not everyone likes the same thing. Life would be boring if we did!

I have just read the long post from Guest.I would not travel with Thompson's,they now charge for everything, window seat onthe plane, food on the plane, transfers, who wants to pay £10 each to sit on a coach for upto 3 hrs.Thompson's say it to give you choise and to keep down the cost, but they are dearer than Manos ect.We have been coming to Arillas for the last 6 or 7 years and the bardis sun is not one of the hotel/apartments i would want to use.The beach is clean in May when we come,if you disregard the oil.The cigarete ends on the beach are all down to the dirty habits of the Holiday makers themselves(its only them that put them out in the sand and leave them there)I would think it is like sunbathing in a gaint Ash tray, this is a problem on any beach though.

I AM THE 'ANONYMOUS WRITER' FROM SEVERAL DAYS AGO.....

ISN'T THE POINT OF THIS FORUM TO SHARE EXPERIENCES AND TO INFORM HOLIDAY MAKERS?? NOT SIMPLY IGNORE AND CRITICISE ANY NEGATIVE COMMENTS THAT ARE MADE??

WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS AND DIFFERENT EXPECTATIONS ABOUT WHAT WE WANT OUT OF A HOLIDAY AND OFCOURSE PEOPLE WILL DISAGREE.

I DON'T DISPUTE THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD A FABULOUS HOLIDAY IN ARILLAS AND THE BARDIS SUN STUDIOS.  THAT'S GREAT.  BUT, I AM NOT LYING ABOUT MY EXPERIENCES - WHY WOULD I?  I AM INTERESTED TO HEAR OTHER PEOPLES' EXPERIENCES, EVEN IF THEY DISAGREE WITH MINE IN ORDER TO MAKE BETTER DECISIONS ABOUT HOLIDAYS IN THE FUTURE.

IN REPLY TO IVAN....  WE DID NOT MAKE AN OFFICIAL COMPLAINT TO OUR THOMSON REP.  SHE WAS GREAT, (CHRISTINE), BUT AS I SAID, WE'RE NOT WHINGERS AND THE QUALITY OF THE ACCOMMODATION WAS NOT THE BE ALL AND END ALL OF OUR HOLIDAY, AND WE DID NOT LET IT SPOIL IT.  TO BE HONEST, WE DID NOT WANT TO WASTE ANY OF OUR HOLIDAY MOVING TO A POSSIBLY WORSE PLACE AND IT WAS UNLIKELY THAT THEY WOULD HAVE MOVED US ANYWHERE ELSE BECAUSE THEY WERE SO BUSY. PLUS ALL THE ROOMS AT THE BARDIS SUN SEEMED TO BE THE SAME SIZE AND STANDARD AS OURS SO THERE SEEMED LITTLE POINT.  I DID MAKE A COMMENT ON THE QUESTIONNAIRE ON THE RETURN FLIGHT HOME - BUT I'M NOT SURE WHAT DIFFERENCE THAT MAKES, WHICH IS WHY I WANTED TO SPEAK TO PEOPLE DIRECTLY ON THIS FORUM.

I WOULD LIKE TO STRESS THAT I STILL HAD A GREAT HOLIDAY, AND I AM SURE THAT OTHERS WILL THAT ARE GOING TO THE BARDIS SUN STUDIOS OR ARILLAS.  I GUESS A HOLIDAY IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT, BUT I WILL DEFINITELY BE VISITING SIMILAR FORUMS TO HEAR WHAT HOLIDAY MAKERS SAY ABOUT A RESORT AND ACCOMMODATION BEFORE BOOKING NEXT YEAR!

8) Hi Emmie,
Interesting to read your latest post, I agree with what you say about the forum being for the exchange of views and opinions, also that our expectations of and requirements from a holiday are bound to differ.
However I find it hard to reconcile your first post, in which you seemed very unhappy with your holiday and seemed to blame the opinions on this forum for being less than honest b******t and in some way responsible for your choice of holiday with the statement on your last post- we did not make an offical complaint and I still had a great holiday.
So you had a great holiday, didn't make any complaints but you're not happy?????
I hope you find what you are looking for in a holiday
                                  Regards,
                                              Ivan

I think that it is about time that people actually spoke the truth so that people know what to expect before they go on holiday. It's bad enough the travel companies spouting bull shit in their brochures without people on forums, designed to inform people and give the tourists perspective, not telling the whole truth

above is what you wrote in your last comment, this is why i repiled to your last post in the way i did!  and now you are saying you have no reason to lie about your holiday, what i dont understand is why would other people that use this forum spout 'Bull S**t' about Arillas if they thought the same as you im sure they would write that the place was horrible not tell a lie and mislead other people. like others have said everyone has different tastes in what they like this obviously isnt the place for you.

hello,
you are correct this forum is for people to express there views ect.both positive and negative ones and that is the only way it should be,then people will get a good idea of the place.Lets not start to knock people for there views or opinions.Sally and i both love Arillas and will keep coming as long as we can. This year we flew from Exeter our local airport with Libra Holidays abd stayed in the Horizon right on the front, highly recommended.

Hi Harold & Sally
Yes your quite right that is what the Forum is for ? I think it was more of a shock to read a long complaint ,of which we don't often come across ?

And now thanks to Dimitris we have a couple of catorgries to log into.
speak soon.

I am glad that there are other honest people like Aimme who has spoken her mind, I put up my experiences at the start of this strand and they were not good.

I am glad to see that Aimme has had similar experiences of Bardis Sun and Arillas so it is not just one persons expectations.

I too would not have booked here if I had read some honest comments.

Came back fron Arillas in August and after having read all the negative posts about the place tried to look at it through the eyes of someone going for the first time and who didn't love the place. Yes the beach is small but plenty big enough for the amount of people who use it.Yes there is a bit of rubbish lying around, but who does it belong to,could it be the tourists. Everything in the village is a little bit basic but that is what we have all come to love.As for the people, well they can't be faulted. They will do anything for you and I would challange anyone who says otherwise. If you treat people well they will do the same.I would recommend Arillas to anyone coming on this forum but not to anyone else as we would like it to stay as it is and not become overrun.

i have not stayed at the bardis studios but i have at the hotel and i am staying again theretomorrow when i fly out.  T he village is small and quaint the people on friendly and helpful. a holiday is what you make of it, i have spoken to many people who have spoken good and bad but they often expect 1st class  accomodation, and am afraid that isnt what you get, my sons have all stayed in the village at the marina and kaloudous and they have been full of admeration for

siobhan, you keep on saying that if you had read an honest comment then you would,nt have had a bad holiday, but you did read an honest comment in the view of the person writing it.
my sons have stayed at the bardis hotel and apart from a dripping tap there had no other complaints, but does this mean im dishonest,no it means that in my view bardis hotel is an ok place to stay, but  dont take it as gospel its just my view.
As for the other comments about the narrow beach, what do you want the locals to do push the sea back?
And litter i agree is a problem but this is caused mostly by us the tourist.
The Kerkerian way is laid back what you see is what you get.
i hope you find somewhere that you will enjoy better, there are many places on corfu to see, hopefully this has not put you off.

personally i dont think the beach is to narrow i think it is just right, if you go to spain or somewhere like that where the beaches are wider you have more of a chance of burning your feet on the sand than you do here as its not that far to the water which i think is a good thing.
im just trying to lighten the mood in this forum now,     SIOBHAN for god sake woman stop saying our comments are not HONEST!! they are honest just not the same as your views, if you didnt like the place fine that does not mean we didnt like it and have to tell everyone that its not very nice!!  i feel the need to stress EVERYONE HAS THERE OWN OPINION, this does not make us dishonest because we think it is a lovely place. if u didnt like it dont go back, it will be a place for the 'dishonest' people to take there holidays   :!:  :!:  :!:

GO GIRL :!: GO GIRL :!:  I must agree with Marie and everybody else,we love Arillas and we cant wait to come back. But people do have there own opionions. We stayed at the Arillas Bay Apartment (sea breeze)and the bedroon furniture was from the 1960's but who cares, the cleaning lady was lovely. The matress was clean the sheets were clean and the bed was cumfy, who cares what year the furniture was made.We sat each morning listening to the sea lapping up against the shore. It was bliss, and i cant wait to go back.If your looking for a quiet relaxing holiday then Arillas it is,but DONT tell too many people.cx 8)  8)  :D  :D

I hope you have a lovely holiday Ivan. Me and Joe (the boyfriend) stayed at the Bardis Sun hotel for the first time (in fact our first trip to Arillas and my first trip to Corfu) a few weeks ago and we had a fantastic time.
I'm sure you'll have a great holiday, so many nice people, lovely scenery and great places to eat.
Say hi to Spiros, Poppy, Bobby and George from Nichola and Joe too if you get the chance and can remember the names!
Enjoy!

Hi Ivan.
Only one day to go for you.Wish it was us.Don't forget to look out for the injured seagulls and let us know if they are ok.We were there at the same time as Nichola and Joe and they had a good time. Would be nice to know what the weather is like this time of the year as we might go next year for a late break.

:cry:We're back -  Regarding earlier posts about the Bardis Sun Studios I am now in a position to reply. This is well kept clean and friendly accomadation and is in my opinion (based on almost 20 years travelling to Greece) well above average for this type of accomadation. I found Spiros Poppy and Bobby to be friendly and helpful hosts who took a pride in their premises. Yes the rooms are not overly big but are perfectly adequate. I think that if you are seriously unhappy with the Bardis you are looking in the wrong place for your holiday,

hi i was at the hotel the same time ivan stayed at the studios, we had a couple of baddays when the heavens opened. and it was like a river flowing through the village, it even moved the bridge into the middle of the road. but the next day was lovely. i felt sorry for the locals as they have the hatd work replacing all the sand that got taken out to sea. just to get it ready for us next year, and they will do it as they did 2 yrs ago when they had a freak storm. keep up the good work arrilas we appreciste all the hard work you put in.

8) Lyndsay,
We had two bad days and the rest was sunny and warm though cooler in the mornings and evenings. It was better weather than we had in the last to weeks of August last year! and one of our best holidays ever,
