Title: Where is everyone staying this year?
Post by: lew19 on January 31, 2011, 12:13:42 AM
Hi Everyone,

Last year we thought we would try somewhere else for our hols, but for the 5th we are going to Arillas again.
We have stayed at the Dionnysos and Mathraki before but although really happy with both, we are thinking of trying somewhere new.
Any ideas anyone.
Is anything new happening in Arillas?

Lynda

We make our own "new" Lynda. Seems to work every time. It always seems new to us, but we don't need new. This time we are staying with Poppy, Spiros, Bobby and George at Bardis Sun Studios. Recently we have always stayed at Brouklis, but even the stairs challenge Jen. Sad but true.

If you want to explore, stay at Anna(studios) well up the hill and much nearer to San Stefanos.  So many go there every time because the family are gorgeous and the welcome is perfect, and they can see views that many can't. We love them all, but many others too.

New is a double edged sword. It can be exciting or disastrous. And anything in between. Arillas even has "new" for almost all who go there at every opportunity like us. We answered a post earlier about first times.

Just go with the flow and join the Arilliacs, we have no shame, we just keep going back there.

Phil

We've been to Kaloudis Village in May for three years running; last year we also went to Horizon Hotel.  This year we'll be back to Kaloudis in May and Horizon in Sept/Oct - both are totally different and we love them both for totally different reasons.

I don't think you would be disappointed by anywhere in Arillas.....

For 13 out of our 15 visits to Arillas we have stayed at the Marina.  It is a lovely family run hotel right on the beach and nothing is too much trouble for them.  My Paul says that you get beach, bar and bed all within 20 yards!  But I have to say that from all the people we have met and all the tales they have told we have never heard anyone speak ill of anywhere there.  So make that decision and wherever you stay I'm sure you'll be satisfied.

We have perviously stayed at Makris, Nafsika where were package deals.

As we prefer to go independent now we have stayed at Portofino alot, but most recent stays have been at the Marina.  Love opening the doors in the morning to the view of the sea and Gravia.

For me it has been The Horizon 5 out of 7 times.
Same view as the Marina and as close to the beach.

One time at Inas Apartments next door, smaller but just as nice,
and one time at Tropicana, nice but too far from the beach for me.
Still, I'm sure everywhere is nice, never heard anyone complaining !!

PhilantSue,as convenient and great as the packages can be (and we have used a fair few in the past) the reality is that the owners get a pittance from companies such as Thomson and Thomas Cook.

When we saw the Marinaki being built (whilst staying in Arillas on a package) we asked around and found out who the owners were then arranged for a 'viewing'. We have never looked back. We pay FAR less than any package could offer (as a family of 5). I still reckon that you could just get a couple of flights, turn up and you could find somewhere to stay no probs. When you have kids as we do, you need to be a little more prepared but I still think it would work out ok.

A perfect example of this is my friend and her family who turned up at The Kaloudis last year (for one of their private rooms) to find they had been double booked.  They walked down the front, popped into the Marina and ended up getting a couple of rooms for a good 200E less than they were originally going to pay.

how do you manage to get kids in there when thompson will not let you book kids because of the balcony?
Title: Re: Where is everyone staying this year?
Post by: mikej on July 11, 2011, 12:31:02 AM
Jo..
Quite agree i couldn't believe how little the tour operators pay appartment owners ,we too have booked direct for the second year running and arrange our own flights ,wouldn't say it was cheap but i have the satisfaction of knowing that all my money for our accomodation is helping the owners stay in business along with all meals etc we have and then there's the bar bill but we won't go there, and next year will be more competition on flights with Ryan air now flying to Corfu.

Anyway just 2 weeks to go and it's Arillas here we come just hope the exchange rate improves a bit can't decide wheather to exchange most of our cash here or wait and change over there ,any thoughts on this anybody?

Mike.
Title: Re: Where is everyone staying this year?
Post by: Jaz on July 11, 2011, 01:10:37 AM
I find when I go abroad exchange rate counts for nothing really unless you are changing thousands... couple of points this way or that way makes a difference of a £50 in a grand...and you only have to buy a couple of extra ice creams and buy an extra round and youve 'done' your rate!
Answer to your question.... went to Arillas back in May and the guy in the travel shop opposite Brouklis Taverna gave us a good rate with no commision for cash.It was 1.08 at home and he gave us 1.13,  5p in the pound better.... thats £12.50 better off if you change £250 or a fiver in a hundred quid. I'd say, dont worry about it and enjoy your holiday.

No prizes for guessing where we are staying!

We are over between the 18th July and the 1st August.

I know Ann is over and it looks like Phil and Jen perhaps Jo Wisset. Who else is about while we are there this year?

It would be lovely to get a few of us together for an evening.

Sarah1, Tria's Philip and Helen are gorgeous people. And it is a lovely destination at the edge of the village. Sadly we rarely get that far these days unless we get a lift. Jen finds the walk from Bardis Sun to the Coconut a trial now. Have a lovely 3rd stay. Like the rest of us, it won't be the last!

Well - just lost my last post!  But....

Daughter and I will soon be on our 4th holiday to Arillas - our 3rd consecutive stay at Mathraki Apatments - we absolutely love it there:-)  We'll be there from 16th July for 14 days....  However, this is a bit of an occasion for us as she will be getting married 6 weeks after we return.....  I think the two weeks of relaxation will be definitely needed by then! Guess you could call it Mother and Daughter hen party!

In some ways I'm quite sad because this is possibly our last mother/daughter trip together.....  But hopefully sometime in the future, we will bring her child / my grandchild to Arillas and have a truly fantastic time!  Perhaps another Arilliac for the future - hopefully!

Thanks Phil. We have stayed at Tria on each of our visits and probably wouldn't stay anywhere else now although it's obvious that so many places in Arillas offer the same wonderful warmth and hospitality and we all seem to have our personal favourites. I'm sorry you aren't quite as mobile as you would clearly like to be but to be honest you don't need to go very far to enjoy time in Arillas do you?

Livi and I shall be at the Tria Adelphia too, first two weeks of school hols:). In fact, I have just paid to reserve our seats together on the plane.  This is due to that mild panic that everyone else will also reserve their seats meaning that I do not then we may have to sit seperately, (at 12 she would hate that).  Thus 30 quid more is added to Thomas Cook's coffers!  On the up side though, it makes my hols seem that little closer.  just over two months away now!

I noticed there are kayaks to rent on the beach, does anyone know roughly what the costs are to rent these please?

It is amazing how folk gather courage to do their own thing when coming to Arillas.

The first time, on an Olympic package, after a 4 hour transfer, you have total misgivings that you will be stuck 20km from the nearest civilisation without even milk or sugar, inland and no beach or sea. Goodbye a year of saving for the perfect holiday. And then after all the stress, you wake up looking at Gravia over the balcony and realise how God has been good. Happened to us. I told the rep "I've died and gone to heaven" the next morning.

Where is everybody staying? Well, in Arillas dear. At Bardis Sun if you need to know. But Brouklis, Kaloudis, Anna Studios, Alecos Sgouros, Elena Stella... we only need to be in Arillas. All alone or otherwise dear heart Dimitri.....

Val meluvver, I've heard that some of the improvements this year include a hot-air booth where old die-hard Arilliacs can be environmentally friendly, and their natterings will be recycled. I have made a block booking for all the time we are both there.

Someone told me it was also called Coconut.

Val, hi. Made up you have such a beautiful daughter relationship. I love all my 3 children.  They do say that a son`s a son till he takes a wife, a daughter`s a daughter all her life. You have such a great relationship, enjoy it all. You will remember it all your life. xx
