I've just used Crown Currency for the very first time. I usually check the exchange rate on sites such as XE etc. Last week their live rates were E1.10, but this figure was for the Interbank rates, so you never get that much. On checking Crown Currency, they were offering E1.103, so I ordered my euros for delivery next week. Delivery in May, I think they're still offering E1.12.
Today the Post Office's rate is only E1.06 :(

Will definitely use them again. Thanks to everyone who recommended them.

Not bad

Received a newsletter from Crown this morning offering 1.219 for delivery between 15.09.10 and 22.09.10.  In two minds what to do as we go to Crete on the 21st September.

Definitely Jo, they were offering 1.21  for delivery in August a couple of weeks ago and I left it, when I looked to order at the weekend it had been reduced to 1.19, so I thought that I'd better order before they reduced the rate further.  Should have waited, never mind.

Get those euros ordered girl!

Its worth looking at this page on BBC and the graph of the Pound against the Euro. I think the rate could be about 1.24 by the end of July.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/10405543.stm

I think I will wait another 4 weeks to buy unless there is a sudden dip.

But at the end of the day what do we gain? On a £1000.00 and an increase from 1.15 to 1.24 its 90€ but if its 1.20 to 1.22 its only 20€

£         Rate    €
£1,000   1.15    1,150.00 €
£1,000   1.16      1,160.00 €
£1,000   1.17      1,170.00 €
£1,000   1.18      1,180.00 €
£1,000   1.19      1,190.00 €
£1,000   1.20      1,200.00 €
£1,000   1.21      1,210.00 €
£1,000   1.22      1,220.00 €
£1,000   1.23      1,230.00 €
£1,000   1.24      1,240.00 €

After all that I am thinking B***** it I will just go to M and S or Travelex a few days before traveling

Agree Terry. It's so little. But we are going through the motions. Like Jo Wisset said about the mozzie posts on here, the currency changing posts just remind you the season is alive and well. And many will be off shortly. Including US!!!!

You may have to wait, and we are truly sad we'll miss you this year, but hey, you've not got that long to wait and neither of us will ever forget you invading us in the Nut playing "air guitar." Many laughed at us old-uns pretending to be 17 again. Bring it on!!

As for the exchange rate, I would pay 10% more to have the ATM in Arillas.
Phil

Last night Crown Currency had cancelled contract so were offering euros at 1.2517 for delivery between 15th and 21st September. Matches our holiday to Crete very nicely. Jan ordered 650 euros. Back in May the rate was 1.129. Quite a difference.

Anyone wanting thiis rate of 1.2517 must mention the cancelled contracts.

On a £1000 the difference in Euro's is only €32.5 - still much better than was being offered a few months ago.

Checking out the rates on Money saving expert today and Crown is giving 1.168 for August while BestForeignExchange.com is offering 1.18.  Have only just discovered these websites and now realise I should have ordered a few weeks ago to get a better rate.  Never mind.  Has anyone used BestForeignexchange?  Are they reliable?

Cath, its worth a gamble to hang on for a few days. The pound has risen today, against the Euro, and it could go higher .... see http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-07-23/pound-rises-against-dollar-euro-before-report-on-british-economic-growth.html

Crown Currency and bestforeignexchange.com have higher rates today. The  Martin Lewis website is good for a comparison ... http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/

Here are todays results

I'm not sure how they can have a sale on currency but it will be worth a look.

What a con!!!!

Nothing changed, the rates were the same as they were before the supposedly "Sale".

Rate was 1.17 against 1.18 at  Best Foreign Exchange.

I don't think I will use Travelex again if they can pull a stunt like that.

Just a note on Crown Currency for anyone worried about using them i ordered online on the 28th of June and payed by bankers draft (You can also pay by cheque but not by credit or debit card)
The rate was1.2236 Euro to the Pound, we received an email explaining how to pay the same evening and the date for the delivery by Royal Mail Special Delivery, on the date stated  the money arrived at 9.30 am in the morning although it said to arrive before 2pm on the particular date
I must admit i was a tad sceptical about it but wont hesitate in future to use them

It's hard though Jo isn't it?
I was like that earlier in the year when we went to Rhodes. In the end I didn't get a brilliant rate & Christian (who bought his with less than 24 hours to spare) fared much better - I guess I should have had the courage to stick it out a bit longer :-)

Well I plumped for 1.185 with Thomas Cook in the end. With Crown I would have got around 28 euro's more in total but figured it was worth that for the stress of waiting for it to arrive!! I have now got my travel insurance, checked my E111 are still in date, got my hol spends and just waiting for the off!!

Just thought I'd mention, after getting my currency from Thomas Cook, I received an email today saying thanks and enclosing a £100 voucher for any holiday booked for next year (as long as you book before Feb 2011).  May be a really good offer for couples and as they also use Easyjet there may be a saving to be had there for us?

A comment in todays Telegraph

"Yet another disgrace by the FSA,these people should have told Crown Currency that as they were trading with members of the publics money they needed to be properly registered,if i lost money in this scam i would be taking legal advice on suing the FSA,there is a clear breach of duty here,it should never have happened, this FSA registered company was no doubt touted to members of the public as being a bona fide company and their money was safe even CC went bust.
