I like them both the same really, i try to spend equal days at each one throughout the holiday, and plus tanning is a bit better by the sea!!

I prefer the beach...unless I'm by my own pool that is. ;-)

These polls are good fun, keep them coming!

We always stay at the Kaloudis Village and the pool there is second to none.  Keep up the good work Billy.  But we do go to the beach everyday also.

Well... as I have mentioned before I can't swim but did manage to float about 6" off the ground in the sea.  I tried in the pool but It was too much like hard work and I needed some salt in it.  I love the sea though and can spend ages in the sea but the pool is great too for lazing around in, Mike prefers the pool as he worries about what he is swimming with (apart from me that is).

I remember a pool we had in Crete, when we came out we had blue feet... not a good look!

It has to definitely be the beach for me and the sea is so shallow in Arillas it takes a while before you have to swim, so if you are just a paddler wanting to cool off the beach is ideal for that, and of course if you like to sunbathe eau naturel then Arillas beach to the far right is the place to be!!!

Hi all, we both like the beach cos its much more interesting and we can people watch as everyone does.  The only time we like the pool is if its really windy and sand blows everywhere.  Then we like to sit by the pool with a large glass (or 2) of Mythos.

The beach is good, especially when it`s been cleaned of all the shingle/jetsom etc. It`s quite nice when the sun is over. The sunsets are lovely. It`s so nice to watch the sunset whilst enjoying a nibble at Yiannis. Also, we had some special times at Thomas`s. The fish restaurant . There are so many places to eat, so I will continue to eat my way around. Enjoy.

POOLS ARE FINE IF THEYRE QUIET, sorry to all you with young uns, believe me I was young once and a nuisance to all, SORRY, I am realistic and realise if I get splashed when sitting reading my book it wont stop the earth but to get sand in your beer could be a problem, so I am willing to stick it out with kids who are also on there holidays, life is for living, enjoy it why you can, its not a practise, YAMMAS

Hi everyone

Pool for me everytime! You cant beat laying in the sun by the side of the pool then when you get too hot just roll in!! I like to have a walk down on the beach and maybe a quick swim about 5/6pm. Cant wait to get to the villa in Arillas, sit by the pool read a good book with some music on in the background and a bottle of Lager....Heaven!!

Why beach of course! Nothing like closing your eyes and hearing the wawes crashing to the shore. Staying by the pool always tempts me to the pool bar and after that it is a slippery road. But then again it is a holiday ;)

Deffo the beach.  That is my holiday as far as i'm concerned.  On a night before getting ready for dinner I sit on the swinging chair outside the apt and just watch that beautiful sight and instantly relax.  (aided by a chilled glass of wine!)

Pool? Orchi!
Pool I can have at home!
The beach is the best! From the sun bed you have the best view to the sea and the horizon. It’s much more interesting! See what other people do, like water sports…Funny sometimes.
It is beautiful to hear the wawes crashing, especially, if your eyes closed.
Ok! If the wind is to strong, better is the pool than, but than I have a drink at the bar! Or do something else!
But at the end of the day, I have a look on the lovely sunset with a glass of wine in a lovely bar. :-)

The Pool, there is too much of a walk from the beach to the bar at the Mirage, :-)
Lie on a sunbed at the Mirage and you still get all the sounds and sights of the beach, with your drinks delivered :-)

Beach or Pool eh!?
Right now we wouldn't mind either way. We've been here just about 2 months now and haven't had a chance to make a choice.
7.30 evening here now and I've just finished a pretty damm good set of cupboards/bookshelves.
Maybe "Thetis" tomorrow though as Spiros has offered to cook something if we're there.
I reckon August is "holiday time for us "

Hi all!
Definitely the beach. The water is sooooh inviting and usually like getting into a bath compared to British resorts! You can walk out a long way before he water gets deep enough to swim, just fantastic. Pools have chlorine and are much cooler!

Hi
Beach or Pool.  For me the beach wins every time.  Just love the beach in Arillas especially the north end.
But best of both worlds is a day on the beach and on return (after taking a shower of course),  a short dip in the pool, which is both refreshing, and if any sand is lurking where it shouldn't, does a better job than the shower.

That's me in the pool at the Horizon.

So you're the one who leaves all that sand in the Horizon pool. Wait till I tell Marino.

Well, as I am here now for the first time, I can confirm I made the right choice when I voted for the beach!  Typing this from the Mirage, which is my favourite pool (for washing the sand off.... whoops!)
Eggy, not sure if that was you we saw at the Mirage the other afternoon or not???

But..... I will be around the Coconut Bar around 3.30 pm if ll goes to plan.

Hi All especially Eggy, Lynn & Colin
Think we are all on the same beach/pool wavelength, but whatever your choice its allways just great to be swimming somewhere around Arillas.
For Eggy confirm that I was wearing my Speedos for the Horizon picture, but don't hold me to that if you wander up to the north beach.
Must work out how people do those tickers - am counting down to May 2008.
Best wishes to all Arillas fans
PS (?why do Thomson only use one L in their brochures/websites about Arillas?)

Despite residing next to the pool at Rainbows, my wife and I went to the beach.

We preferred the more relaxed, and less commercial North part.

I did 'borrow' some Sun-Loungers a couple of days, and took them about 200 metres past the "Falling Rocks" sign. I did return them afterwards.

I didn't wear Speedos. In fact, I encouraged other beach users to enter the water, when they realised I had just a tan on.  :-)  My wife remained a "Textile" ;-)

We witnessed some Germans next to us, coating themselves in the "Green Mud"

Hi
I think James has got it right.  The north end is definately the place for my wife and I.  Like Mrs 'James' my wife prefers to remain a textile (don't like that name but have not heard a better one), and I prefer to lose my Speedos for the pleasure of a complete sun and sea experience.
Our plan is to buy a couple of rush mats and umbrellas from Ina's on day one, and sometimes gather extra ones from the many which are abandoned on the north shore.
Bet James you wish you were back in Arillas now the British weather is breaking up.

I always leave a mat down on the beach, rolled up behind a rock, and this year a very nice Danish couple donated their umbrella to me when they went home....so I left that down there each day as well. I've never bothered before but with the poor summer in the UK I think I would have frazzled this year on the beach all day. The other thing I do is put a few small water bottles in the freezer compartment of the fridge at night - and I have a supply of cold water all day on the beach. Cheese, olives, tomato and melon and sometimes a  bottle of retsina and I'm set up for the day. I got through 6 books in August....paradise.

I hope that picture of you is not just wearing a tan? - If it is then, maybe, you're very happy Dimitris hasn't got a zoom in facility on the website.

If Terry finds one you could be on the A-Z's.

So. If you find any mats or a brolly make sure it isn't Sandys.-Or you will be in trouble.

Hi Everyone
Thanks Sandy for the tips about sustenance for a day on the beach.  All very good for keeping the weight down and keeping a good apetite for a super meal in the evening.
Just to remind you of our splendid beach here is one of my pics taken in June this year from just beyond the outcrop (which needed to be waded around then).

Actually someone did "borrow" it one day - I didn't get to the beach until the afternoon and the umbrella wasn't there. Fortunately it was a bit overcast that day, but I espied the culprit further along the beach....and simply reclaimed it from his hiding place the following day. It can get a bit "cloak and dagger" (well, perhaps no cloak) down there at times!

Hello again
I seem to have set off some controversy about getting sand in pools.  Sorry about that.  Of course we should all shower before entering swimming pools.  However its still great to get in a pool after a day in salty water down on the beach.

Hi Eggy,

You're right - we only went on the internet to book the Bardis Sun for next May, and being as we had some money left in the computer, I thought I'd check answers to my posts!  (I only had 5 minutes on line, so I was soon back by the pool.)

So that's next year booked now, and there was me wanting to go somewhere new every year - oh well, I was warned!!  ;)

I've just been viewing our photos, and when we've worked out how to include them in posts, I simply have to put on the photo of you with Dianne!

Sorry to have missed you Sunday afternoon, but Katalina looked after us with the ouzos and kisses goodbye.

Only another 8 months!

Hi
Hope its not another Reggie Perrin though - quite enough with Mr Darwin and his doings.  CJ would say 'I didn't get where I am today by leaving my flip flops on the beach at Arillas'

Weather in Lincolnshire is cold and wet.  Afraid its not very good for the Lincoln Christmas Market which attracts vast crowds over this weekend.  I gather Shearings are sending 60 buses, and there were three special trains yesterday, including one hauled by Union of South Africa, another hauled by a Deltic, and the Orient Express.  Lincoln must be getting on the map at last.

pj - jen and me are hedonists - people who don't want grief, enjoy the pleasures of the body - like food an drink, sunbathing, naturism, and all the rest you can work out. Arillas is the place where we can do all of what we want and not feel guilty about it.

bubbles, jets & squirts are fine.

don't matter we're getting on - we're still worth it!

Whilst on the subject of pools, it seems to me that they are 'open house' to guests and passers by who go for a dip whether or not they are actually staying at the particular establishment. Have I got it right or am I imagining it?
I must admit I like both, mainly because the sea in Arillas is sooo warm and calm and its gradual slope out means that swimming is safe. The pool is great for an evening dip before heading off for food in the village!

Martin.

Thats the one.... they have the "posh" sun loungers and real grass at the front, we usually get a dousing from their garden sprays when we go back to the BS in the evenings,  lots of little ones using the pool too.  Its amazing really that even though Arillas is small there are still some places we havent been to.  Like the Graziella (I am drifting off topic here).  we have always walked past but never been in.  Last year when we took Lynda, Mike had a blonde either side of him and the waiters used to say "lucky man, lucky man".. LOL.. We must go in their this year for their garlic prawns!

Hi Everyone
I agree the Mirage pool is first class.
Martin: Yes open house seems to be the order of the day on most Greek Islands - however they do like you to patronise the bar for a drink and/or snack - it seems only fair.
I agree that for the best of both worlds its the beach and sea during the day, and a dip in a pool in the evening.
Best wishes

now we have to watch them like hawks so the beach is probably better when they are older we will spend more time around the pool again.

Hi BG

you won't be disappointed with graziella's garlic prawns. Apart from "lucky man lucky man" you'll hear the catchphrase "lovely jublee" more than a few times. So endearing...

And to try and stay on topic, the beach below the Graziella and Sea Breeze is reached by a sort of step ladder. Fallen down that a few times after a hefty meal and loads of wine at the top....

But it's a lovely spot to settle on the beach.

best wishes

Beach is great - especially arillas but nothing wakes you up quite like a dip in the pool first thing (usually about midday in my case!).

Off topic again, Graziella seems to be the only restaurant in Arillas to have Taramassalata these days - yum

I think it depends on how breezy it is   ; )

When we lived 'full time' in Corfu, we would go up to Arrillas beach at least twice a week and early on or later in the year, even though the sun is shining gloriously, it can be quite blustery.

We could always be found by the pool in the Horizon, or sat enjoying one of their lovely lunches  when it was too breezy to enjoy the beach      : )

Hi Folk
Beach or Pool?  Well lots of votes for the beach but also lots of votes for the pool.
There is much to be said for both options.

I find the pool very handy for a quick dip,
but often find it hard to get aboard a Lilo!

If not what is it?

I always thought I preferred the pool because Ive always been too scared to swim in the sea, but I thought Id give it a try - and I loved it! Its so relaxing especially just bobbing up and down on the waves, and one day we took a lilo down to the beach when the waves were really big and tried surfing on it ha! Ive never had so much fun in my life! Although Ive got to say Im not keen on the feel of sand between my legs and in my hair :)

Hi Everyone & LauraUldis
Sorry I don't know the sea temperature in Arillas.  Would love to know though.  In May this year is was plenty warm enough for swimming so by now it should be great.
Last year in Kos saw a chap with a tent/windbreak on the beach.  He had a thermometer hung up inside it.  Eventually he took it out and checked the sea temperature.  I'd never seen anyone do that before, very thorough, must he German (ha ha)!
Best wishes to all

I like both. I like going in the sea till 4.00pm say. Then go into the swimming pool. This is a nice feeling as the sea in June was quite cold some days and it was just nice to get in the warm pool and feel refreshed. So I think they are both great in there own ways.

Hope this helps this mass post! :P

Hi,everyone. For Heather and I, it`s got to be the beach. You can`t beat a cooling breeze, the sound of the sea etc. Once you get too hot, a quick cooling dip and then maybe a stroll along the shoreline. People watching is fascinating to. One year we saw this couple who were reading. But every so often the bloke would lift his head and just stare at people thinking nobody knew what he was doing. It wasn`t a casual glance either. When he looked in our direction, I just stared back. Thank God not everybody is like him.  I have to say that everyone we have ever met on  the beach were really friendly people- always willing to chat.

That's part of the pleasure I think, Tony. I didn't get in a pool the whole month but Jen used most of them all over the village. I was in the sea a lot and it was always warm but as you say, with cold currents now and then. So enjoyable at the far end of the beach.

Arillas beach is perfection. Stay at Marinakis or Kaloudis,  Right by the beach. Or Mirage, or Arillas Bay. Or Bardis. All right by the beach. Anywhere really - Brouklis rooms always sound good.

In 2008 Arillas beach was superb. Spent many a long hour there. I might be the forum anorak, but I know what I like.

Living in Cornwall, we are surrounded by lovely beaches anyway.  So I suppose the beach is something we take for granted.

Hopefully, Arillas beach will recover from the harsh winter soon.

I love the beach, Jen loves the pool. So deposited at Kaloudis and able to read her book without motormouth distracting her, and swimming in Splish Splash, Jen can order the cold beer, and I can spend a while just lazing in the sun and swimming in the sea. Works for us.

But we also adore our long lazy lunches, often in Graziella. So much to do, so little time....

I'll tell you all the best way to enjoy the sea, but it will have to be our secret, lol.

Pop your snorkel and face mast on, jump on your air bed and float about for a few hours laid on your tummy whilst peering over the end at everything going on beneath.  Now that really is my idea of paradise.

N.B. not advised in high winds however.

hi peterh. I guess you mean Akti. Spiros is an exceptional host, and many always stay there. But Jen and me like the freedom factor, we rarely get dressed until midday, let alone up, so we stay where that works. Arillas offers all of that as well.

Kev is an Arillas legend in his own lifetime.  I count him, like many others, as a dear friend. Arillas as a whole knows kev and kay, like Jen and me, we are Arilliacs. Come and join us.... sea or pool? Sea for me, pool for Jen

Phil

What a lovely photo, PJ - when I see that photo the answer is obvious - the sea!

Although the pool has its attractions too - we particularly like the one at Kaloudis

I always go to the Rainbow first thing for a swim - best pool in Arillas in my view. Give it a try if you haven't been.

Then for the rest of the day.....beach and sea.......

The Mirage is also a good pool and right on the beach, best of both worlds.
Plus you are not far from your next Mythos.

Barry.

The beach - the breeze, the light, the sound of the sea on the sand....the experience captured in memory to keep me sane until I can come back again!

I can never stay still for long so for me its, pool, beer, walk, beach, sea for snorkel, pool, food, beer, pool, beach, walk and then I do it all again the next day.

Oh Nan I forgot about the snooze too. I am reminded I snore when on a sun lounger, so if anyone hears the sound of a Hippo during rutting season coming from the Akti pool area, its likely me ;-) Another good reason for me to stay mobile.

North beach for getting an all over tan and lounging around in the sea and pool for seriosu swimming. Stayed at Dionyssus 1 last week. Lovely pool there and just a few bods there on any day. The only minus with the beaches at Arillas is the lack of on-the-beach bars. Sometimes it's nice just to sit around a circular beach bar in a cozzie sipping on a cool Mythos rather than having to put a top on as well to sit in a taverna.

Beach for us here too - I get too hot round a pool - rarely seems to be much of a breeze........
