Title: Judy and the Donkey rescue
Post by: vivian on February 08, 2009, 03:45:30 PM
“Hi all

I have received a request from Judy who runs Corfu Donkey Rescue asking if we can vote for her in a contest being run on a Dutch website. I am writing to ask if you if you would all vote for her. You can only do it once and it will only work once in a household as it takes the IP address which is the same for each computer using the same router. This could be the same if you try to do it at work. The email below is from Judy and explains it in more detail and i apologise to anyone who may know of this from the Agni message boards and have already voted.

Pavo is a well known brand of Dutch food suppliers.  They asked their clients to recommend their favorite equine charitiy.  CDR was put on the short list of 5 charities.  All we ask you to do is look at the charity list and vote for the one you think the most deserving is.  Hopefully you will chose CDR.  If CDR comes out on top the charity wins 1000 euros.  Please take the time to vote, although it is in Dutch it is very straight forward.
If we win the prize we intend to use it for the sponsorship of Brigitte – she is so much needed here to help me with the work.  My present helper has just suffered a minor heart attack so I am on my own again!!
Go to the link below, go to the bottom of the page and click on Corfu Donkey Rescue – that I am told is all you need to do to register your vote. Thank you so much Judy

Thanks for posting this link, Viv.  I just voted for the Corfu Donkey Rescue.

It really is the simplest thing to do, and took me all of 5 seconds.  Being in Dutch was no problem either, as the name to click on is in English.  Lets hope they win the prize!

Hi,

Last week a belated Christmas parcel arrived via Dave from the UK.

Presents for donkeys, cats, rabbits and dogs and even me!

All animals have received their treats including me (Aero chocolate consumed very quickly)

Thanks to Viv, Julia, Maggy, Jimmy H and Davey H

The donkeys are enjoying these beautiful sunny days and it is a reminder of summer days to come!

Thanks to everyone for all their support. A slight hold up with the contracts on the land, wont bore you with the details

But we aim for 18th March as the day.

Best wishes
Judy

Judy confirms that she has now been notified that she has won and will be receiving 1000E in due course. She is really gratefull but has so many other problems at the moment that she hasn't had time to thank everyone yet.
Storms last night and no electric all morning. Mud everywhere at the sanctuary.
Well done folks love viv

An open letter of thanks  to you all from Judy.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT - THE DONKEYS WON!!!!

We would like to officially confirm that Corfu Donkey Rescue won the voting contest held by Pavo, the well known brand of Dutch food suppliers. Judy has won 1,000 Euros for the donkeys and has now been officially notified by the company.

Judy is very grateful to all of you for putting in so much effort and helping her to win and would like to thank you all. It is at present an extremely busy time at the Shelter and many things are going on at present and thanking you all would be an impossible task for her.

So could we ask all of you that passed on the link to forward a message of thanks to those people, (or pass on this link www.corfu-donkeys.com) in order to let them know how grateful Judy and everyone at Corfu Donkey Rescue is for their support.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP AND YOUR EFFORTS.
From Judy and the Donkeys

I've just read that and my opinion is:-

If we all care about this sanctuary, and I know we do, then why can't we all donate e5 to help her cause?

All we need is someone to send the cash to and to ensure it reaches her quickly!

We have 1500+ members on the site. if only 20% donated she'd have at least e1500 to ease the pain a little.

I am going to write to Bill and ask him to have a look at your idea, I personly think its a great one but Bill is the one that needs to see it at he does a load of work for Judy.. At the moment Judy wants no petitions or things like that as she feels the action is against her and not the donkeys and feels this may be seen as if she is making Corfu look a bad contry which could be counter productive, but says if anybody reads this that either lives or can spare a day of their holiday she would love support in court.

Hi!

Viv kindly brought my attention to this post as I do help Judy from time to time, and asked if I would comment on Eggy's suggestion.

As Viv quite rightly says, Judy doesn't want petitions or other shows of support that however well intended could be misconstrude.  However, I feel 101% certain that she would be delighted if anyone felt able to make a donation to the CDR.

I'm sure you're well aware that the place is run on a proverbial shoestring.  Finding sufficient funds to feed and maintain the donkeys (let alone herself) is a daily worry for Judy.  At this particularly difficult time not only would the money itself be a wonderful bonus to the sanctuary, but for Judy to know that there are lots of people out there who are 'rooting for her' would be a massive boost to her morale.

In terms of how to donate, I appreciate that a single large donation would be a wonderful gesture, but it might be difficult to co-ordinate a single collection point.  I would suggest using one of the several ways already set up for getting money to the sanctuary quickly.  There is a Paypal account in the name of Corfu Donkey Rescue, or alternatively if you look a this link - http://www.corfu-donkeys.com/Adoptadonkey.htm - you will see in the top right hand corner there are details for Visa and Mastercard payments.  If you were to contribute using one of these systems, and use a standard message, for instance "with love from an www.arillas.com forum member" Judy would know that (hopefully) a lot of donations were coming from one principle source.

On a slightly different note, Judy's court date is set for 6th May, but it is very likely that an adjournment will be sought.  Once a new date has been set I will, if no-one minds, post the details on this site and if you happen to be free and in Corfu on the day perhaps you would consider going along to the court to lend your support.

Meanwhile, Eggy, Viv and everyone else who is supporting and thinking of Judy - thank you all so very, very much!

Bill

At long last Yesterday morning Judy, along with her solicitor finally signed for the piece of land that they have been trying to purchase for several months now.

The land is at last theirs and officially belongs to Corfu Donkey Rescue charity.

There is still much to be done and of course they now have to fence the land, build the shelter, and stables etc. so much fund raising is needed and appeals for help with labour.

Congratulations to them and lets hope this is the start of better things to come and they can finally tell the neighours where to go.... and what to do.....

Forgot to tell you what happend at court sorry, after everything had been disgust on all sides the Judge said he would consider all the everdence and make his disicion in a few weeks time. I personly feel this is a good thing because knowing how slowly everything happens in Corfu, it might give time for eveything to sort its self out beforehand. Here's hoping. Viv
