Hello dear Annie,
That will be the Andamoma ( ΑΝΤΑΜΩΜΑ) festival on the 4rth August for this year.
It is in fact a general meting of the people of Arillas with the locals who live abroad or in the mainland as during the first two weeks in August they tend to be in Arillas for their vacation or visiting their families.

The festival is a wonderful gathering of locals and visitors. A really social occasion with great traditional dancing to enjoy.  Heather really enjoys seeing the traditional costumes.
Everyone is made to feel welcome and part of the Arillas ` family`.

  Cant` wait.   Paul

Can I just confirm the dates for the wine festival this Sept - 2012 - is it 7th and 8th or 8th and 9th???   What actually happens at this time in Arillas, i.e. we are considering a flight at 5.45 am Friday 7th instead of a decent time 10th so we can go to it - is it worth it??? :-)

The wine festival is very special. Here are some pics from the one we attended in 2008.

You buy a special glass carafe for about 3 euros and can fill it up as many times as you wish from the very good local wine. Greek dancing, souvlakiaand all in all an amazing experience for very little money. We went both nights of course, just to check one wasn't better than the other.....

we also did the wine festival..2010, we went in as strangers and ended the night as friends, 6 greek locals joined us 2, they spoke no English...we no Greek but we all understood each other within an hour..my husband was up doing his Anthony Quinn with a Greek lady of advanced years to Zorba!
By the end of the evening spent in great company with so much laughter she had written down her phone no 3 times and wanting us to come for tea tjhe next day, when unfortunately we had to fly home.
Amazing night promised for anyone who visits that time of year.

Jill luvver, it would have to be more than a week - we both wish we could just stay till November. Like you, we get so much out of even the quietest days with our friends. Sometimes we prefer those to the parties....

Have your usual great time in three weeks from now. But then that doesn't need saying.

Love from both of us

Hello Nicola,
the August festival will be taking place every year in the first weekend of August.
This year it's going to be on Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th of August 2012.
It's called the ANTAMOMA ( Αντάμωμα) festival.
It's the reunion of the local "Arillas expats" that are spread widely in Greece and in the entire world.
While many of them are on vecation in Arillas during this period visiting their family and homes, it has been established that we do this two-day festival in order to celebrate the fact that allthough they are not any more permanent residents of Arillas they still have the wish to come back every year to visit their hometown and talk about their lifes etc.
Of cource the event is not only for the locals .! everyone is ivited to join the party where  local folcrore dancing groups and clubs come from allover Greece to join us.

Oh dear. We will miss this one as well. Such is the history of PhilandJen. We fly abroad (back to UK) on Friday 3rd.

But to be honest, we will be chilled, Arillaxed, and very happy people having spent 3 weeks with some of the most beautiful people in the world, both Greek and British, and with any luck from many other parts of the world. In truth, Jen and me don't need festivals. Arillas is enough for us.

Well, festival on 14th July, the day we arrived, and we ended up playing Bingo at the Rainbow with the illustrious Eggy calling the numbers. You just couldn't put this lot in a bottle.

(BTW Wendy has other words to describe him.....)

Some have told us that they really enjoyed it, and I bet they did. P;up in a brewery? Just can't go wrong really.

The wine festival is in September, and OMG it is the best and most wonderful event in the Arillas calendar. If you can be here for that JUST DO IT.

I stand to be corrected but I think somewhere on this forum I have read that the wine festival is always the second weekend in September.  I'm sure someone will say if I'm wrong.
